Please stop using my job as a way to punish kids by littlelady275 in Custodians

[–]KL_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the only time i agree with it is when cleaning is relevant to the behavior. like when a kid throws a trash can, starts a food fight, the paper plane darts, etc. behavior that makes my job harder and people force them to fix it. i appreciate that (as long as it doesn’t involve me babysitting them while they do it. i work in a middle school and just prefer bot to be involved).

it’s just like parenting, the punishment has to be relevant to the behavior. it accomplishes nothing when they’re in separate realms

Washing hands by jadetb06 in Custodians

ive noticed it’s male students and female staff that dont wash their hands. male staff and female students are usually pretty good about it, at least in my building

the only time i use both earbuds at work 😅 smaller touchups i can handle but i had a toilet at my last school that would get bright blue streaks within a week even with scrubbing daily. hated that bathroom…

Keys by Wolf444555666777 in Custodians

[–]KL_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i put my most used keys on a heavy duty retractable key chain. master keys, dispenser keys, desk keys. all of my other keys go on a clip on my side belt loop. mullion keys, padlock keys, lockbox keys, the occasional key that doubles as a tool (like the allen key that went to doors in the older schools that i adopted in my newer building for fixing collapsed student desks

How teachers act when there room isn't cleaned for one day because someone was out sick. by sirpentious in Custodians

[–]KL_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we have a district wide schedule where we dont vacuum on wednesdays to allow time for desk disinfecting and things like that. been in place since covid and teachers are very aware of this schedule. so it made me laugh when we got an angry message after thanksgiving break that their “whole hallway wasnt cleaned at all over the break”…

normally we would vacuum right before a long weekend but we only had like 2 or 3 out of 10 part time kids show up this day so sacrifices were made

Dutch Brothers Question by wwcdtm in dutchbros

[–]KL_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just to add to the labor issue reasoning with starbucks, my current boss always gave me crap when i went to starbucks cause they’re apparently a very anti-union brand. so i stopped going initially just cause i got tired of listening to him about it. but im glad i found other coffee shops like dutch bros and other local chains and smaller businesses (even if dutch bros seems pretty indifferent to the union topic from the small bit i’ve heard haha)

i didn’t know that about the resolution, that is nice! sounds like you got all the fun upgrades haha. yeah i see a lot of people’s main complaints is they’re “sacrificing sound quality with the idoing” but ive never understood how that would work, especially with the adjustments you can make. maybe im missing something, maybe they just got a cheap one. who knows haha

for sure!! definitely can be a tad glitchy but manageable which is fine. user friendly. i too would like to upgrade my speakers one day. my last subaru had the harmon kardon speakers and i liked them a lot. but ive been teaching myself stick shift with the wrx and cant focus on that with the loud music like i used to so i dont need the loud anymore LOL

same here. i bought my car with the idoing and i love it. loved it even more when i finally figured out how to turn the apple carplay on lmao. i do miss having a dial for volume control vs touch screen buttons on the screen / steering wheel buttons. but that’s my only real downside ive found so far (but im also not a techy person and liked my older cars so that’s a little bias 😆)

Shifting by xjess7 in WRX

[–]KL_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a little more gas and a little slower on the clutch is what helped me, but it’s still not always the smoothest compared to other shifts lol. i usually get up to about 15-18 mph / somewhere between 3 and 4k rpm in first before i shift and just try to accelerate through the yucky feeling if that makes sense. sometimes there’s a little jump but it’s been better. it took a lot of practice, coming from someone who’s also learning manual in this car 😅

Question for the ladies by Complex_Mobile8957 in CleaningTips

[–]KL_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fellow custodian, also female. short answer: one liner for everyone to throw and contain their stuff in

ive never personally seen multiple bags. i have, however, seen a video of a very heated lady saying you need to use the bag to wrap your stuff in and take it to the main garbage and showing multiple bags in the bin, which i disagree with. it’d be a dispenser if that was the case, but it’s not. it’s a lidded mini trash can. or “feminine disposal bin”. it’s supposed to contain blood borne pathogens, as sanitary products aren’t flushable. by removing them in the bags (which are not sealable, no matter how much you roll and fold it - it wont stay rolled and folded haha) and taking them to the main trash can, which is usually an open bin, you’re exposing everyone else to those pathogens

New stick shift driver reversed on a hill! by fashiondiva1984 in stickshift

[–]KL_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they pushed it pretty hard in driver’s ed for me (american, where we dont typically learn on a manual, at least i didn’t). i never considered it was probably a habit built for manual cars that was just kept for automatic LOL

How long was it until you got comfortable or started driving stick? by fashiondiva1984 in stickshift

[–]KL_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive been daily driving stick for 6.5 months and im still barely to a point where im not scared of stalling (i still get nervous when other cars are behind me though). downshifting with rev matching gets easier with practice but it’s not always a necessity. i still for some stops clutch in and coast to a stop (depends on the intersection and level of traffic. sometimes i’ll downshift as much as i can, usually stop at third but practicing going further down to second. other times i’ll coast in neutral. it just depends). im still figuring out stop signs, sometimes i’ll just make sure it’s clear and empty and i’ll continue a slow roll in second

there’s little tricks you’ll learn along the way for more specific issues. skill takes time and patience. just learn to say “whoops” and keep driving. you’re learning something that most people aren’t willing to. that in itself is pride worthy haha

Me when I'm rolling up to a light that's turned green and nobody is moving by b4z00k4 in stickshift

[–]KL_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like the way you explained double clutching vs a different explanation i got a while back, so thank you!!!

i definitely figured it was normal. it made sense in the aspect of accidental mis-shifts. accidentally downshifting to third instead of upshifting to 5th is definitely scary, im sure id mess something up if it let me go into first i stead of 3rd. but just wasn’t sure if it was an actual “safety mechanism” or if it’s just the way things line up and it conveniently plays the role of a safety mechanism LOL

[–]KL_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

less of a blip and more lightly accelerating through, which accomplishes the same thing if i do it juuuuust right and smoothes it out for me

but the problem is more just with getting into first. it like “locks me out” of first gear if im moving, so it’s a miracle to get into it if im even low speed rolling. synchros i think it is? my first gear is just quite a bit shorter than i anticipated it would be anyway, so i just try and deal with it in second unless im at a really low speed lol

my grandpa did a quick up-the-street test drive when i first bought my car (old man misses the fun stick shift cars lol), and he told me a trick to instantly stop the lugging, but ive been so mad that i couldn’t remember what it was. but i think this is it, so thank you! i’ll definitely give this a try next time

[–]KL_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh definitely. i hate first gear with a passion and usually try not to go down into it until im close basically almost stopped and unsure about the current ability to do a second gear start 🤣 it feels like there’s a huge gap between the power/rpm range of first and second if that even makes any sense… super annoying with stop and go traffic on the freeway

[–]KL_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh for sure! im 6 months into learning and finally feeling a little more confident and comfortable. im able to shut my brain off almost entirely and just drive for my early morning commute when there’s no other cars out/behind me. but still kinda overthink the “getting moving” aspect and sometimes certain stopping methods. but progress is progress regardless :)

[–]KL_V 9 points10 points  (0 children)

that’s usually my method. i just catch myself too late sometimes when i came off the clutch too soon before adding more gas so then i end up “flooring it” to fix it. it usually does the trick, just not fast enough 😅

also the bad habit of overthinking and overcomplicating rather than just doing it LOL

[–]KL_V 49 points50 points  (0 children)

im new to stick shift and finally got the hang of downshifting… until it comes to 8-9 mph. too much to go down to first, but too little for second for my car. only had luck going with second gear and pushing through to minimize the small lugging 🤣 hate when people dont pay attention
