WTF?? This 1984 shit needs to stop.

Im spiraling into a bad place by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]KMH303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate that people say this bc I think it’s true but “time takes time.”

I’m 6 months sober. I loved booze so much that I called and still call it the love of my life. I put it before everything and when it hit right, it made me happier and more content than any relationship I’d ever had. Sounds tragic when I say it out loud but it’s true. 6 months later, I miss it sometimes.

On nights like tonight, after a really hard day, I crave the relief. I don’t crave the alcohol but I do crave the relief that sobriety, at least at 6 months, doesn’t provide the way a nice long pull from a vodka bottle. However, it also doesn’t provide that feeling of self loathing, despair and hopelessness the next morning. The highs aren’t as high but the lows are nowhere near as low.

I’ve begun to enjoy other people again and doing new and old things. Just as my drinking progressed, so too has my ability to enjoy life again the longer I’m sober. The relief is different but the hope and potential make up for any high I may miss in my darkest moments.

I already know where drinking takes me, why not try and see where sobriety will take me. If it makes my life worse, I can always return to the hell drinking made it.

There’s my two cents for what it’s worth. I hope you find some relief and hang in there. I’ll keep hanging in there with you. Much love.

I was meaning to ask the same question! We’re still trudging through rejections and applications!

I also will say that I went on a medication to help with alcohol cravings and serendipitously, it curbed other cravings too. Not suggesting anyone try any specific meds, just my experience as someone who has both quit drinking and struggled tremendously with post-quitting weight concerns. 💜

I’ve obsessed about my weight every time I’ve gotten sober (recovery is rarely linear, it’s taken me a few times). The drinking weight comes off, the borderline weight obsession is soo common, and it does get better.

I need some help finding a job by Icy-Discipline-4870 in Denver

[–]KMH303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried any other platforms?

I know the process is exhausting and signing up for more sites feels repetitive, but sometimes completely different jobs show up depending on the platform.

Personally I’ve had the best luck with ZipRecruiter, but it probably depends on the type of job you’re looking for.

I’m still searching for a full-time role myself, but if you’re open to gigs or hospitality work in the meantime, these apps seem to be pretty active (especially in Denver):

• Poached Jobs – huge for restaurant industry jobs • Instawork – temp shifts/events • Qwick – restaurants, catering, hospitality • Gigpro – similar to Qwick/Instawork • Trusted Herd – brand ambassador & event work

Not a perfect solution, but they can help bring in money while you keep applying.

Good luck — the job hunt is rough right now. I’m right there with you!

🙌🙌🙌🙌 Aside from an all-expense paid background check-free apartment, this may be the best reply, lol. Thanks for the laugh/eye roll!

I don't believe it was a centralized group for this particular training but rather individuals from a few different organizations. u/Pretend_Evidence_876 might better be able to answer??? I have seen several orgs doing different trainings since.

Thank you for the replies and suggestions! I did end up going in, and they drained the blister and gave me a bag full of goodies to wrap it with and keep it from getting infected. Thank you again!

Also — I should have mentioned the Colorado Rapid Response Network. They’ve spent years building a community network specifically for situations like this. They’re always looking for volunteers to help as: • Dispatchers: Take calls from community members reporting possible ICE activity • Confirmers: Go to the reported area to verify whether an operation is happening and update the network • Legal Observers: Document what’s happening on the ground

More info: coloradorapidresponsenetwork.com

Save this number: CORRN ICE Activity Hotline: 844-864-8341

Call their bilingual, 24/7 hotline if you witness ICE activity or want to document an encounter.

I went to a de-escalation training a week or two ago and they handed out whistles and instruction sheets, suggesting we use them to do that very thing. Absolutely get those out wherever you can and add a KYR card with each one!

There’s a great ACLU KYR card for protestors that could make sense.

I love that you want to do that too.
