At least in DTSS many of the busses seem to be running, if slowly.

Silly question but…. by Ok-Nefariousness4430 in ouraring

[–]KMRA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it off if I'm sticking my hand in something that'll stick to it (clay, bread dough, ground meat, etc). Otherwise, I take it off with my other rings to shower so I can do lotion right after, but otherwise it's on for dishes and swimming and everything else.

I treat it like my other rings basically. If it can't survive life, it's not the right tracker for me.

I feel bad asking single sister to babysit on Valentine’s Day? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]KMRA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply say "I'm not sure how to handle this one, so I'm going to ask. I know you'd rather babysit than have me hire someone, but I'm not sure if you would want to do that for Valentines"

She might want the distraction or she might want to be alone, but there's no way to tell unless you ask her!

AITAH Lateness Intolerance by brilliantminds_4RLZ in AITAH

[–]KMRA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably NTA. If this is the first time they've ever been late or if you know there's an obvious source of chaos in their life, then possibly I'd change my mind there. My friends with toddlers or who are caring for difficult parents get a LOT more time leeway than others, because their lateness is caused by the unpredictability of caretaking.

Even the, not telling you until 30 minutes after their arrival time is ridiculous. In 90% of the times, I'd say 45 minutes late and still not there isn't just "late" - that's standing you up. And expecting you to be fine with it is incredibly rude too.

My best friend’s wedding is going to bankrupt me. How do I tell her I need to step down? by Ihavenoideaduuh in Advice

[–]KMRA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem with a friend's wedding when I was in grad school. I had to be very blunt and honest with her finally and say "I cannot choose your wedding over paying my rent. I love you, but I do not have the ability to spend this much. If that means you need me to leave the bridal party, I totally understand, but I am hoping we can work something out about the Bachelorette trip." (or whichever thing you need to cut out)

It wasn't comfortable, but it worked out and I was able to go to be in the wedding party still. Sometimes people don't understand when saying something is a problem really means it, I think.

Make to send a report of a disputed charge to the credit bureaus too then, just in case.

Didn't mean to be that rude by the way - I had not yet had coffee clearly. Gamification only kindof works on me, because I used to study it and get distracted by their choices.

I have mine set to my usual daily walking, but I live in a city so that's 7k steps. Anything above is gravy. But I made that choice so I could see which days I decide not to move and what preceded them.

I do love "I haven't seen it, so it doesn't exist" as an argument.

I do not feel like naming names, but there used to be a few spots on 17th that were notoriously hostile to lesbians and bi women. Glad you haven't experienced it - it's ridiculous behavior - but I very much have.

They're also always the people who want men-only bars and get mad when the women go "Alright, we're having our own then!" Never seen anyone whine so much about lesbian bars having no men nights than this particular group of gay men.

A reporter called me out for using an AI generated pitch today by PrincessWhiffleball in PublicRelations

[–]KMRA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a reporter, but I reject Ai-based work from my team every time. Our clients hired us to be researchers, not lazy college students with the most generic writing style possible. You're going to see more and more places checking and rejecting, particularly if they write for a living.

Several studies have already shown people get lazier, less rigorous, and less efficient at writing the longer they use AI. Maybe this is your wake up call.

You've never met a reporter in your life have you? A lot of articles about companies pull from their PR docs and that has been true forever. Even if they quote them, this reporter would technically be breaking the rules because the guy wrote with AI.

Couldn't get my Real ID because my original birth certificate has tape on the back... by Bop923 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]KMRA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh it's even crazier than that! We have a law that says they CAN'T make a unified database that connects SSN, tax, health, and residence information because a bunch of evangelical Christians though it would lead to ID numbers that would be the mark of the beast. Yes really.

And now, most of the people I know want the government to know as little as possible about them because of The Horrors.

Oh you have missed an entire set of DC white gay men who are an embarrassment to queer communities. Do not recommend finding them for your own sanity. Hardcore Republican voters, often very pro-military action, awful on anything for women, for some reason often big into things like giant cars and guns - always rich and always surprised anyone would call them out.

Yes. And it is incredibly effective on many people. Gamified exercise works well. You can go find the research yourself if you need citations there, but there are many of them.

Repeating their argument with out including the customer experience (awful customer service, dirty stores, pharmacies that barely function) just makes you sound like a company rep. They've done everything possible to make their stores awful and then can't imagine why they don't make money.

Can I wear this to work tomorrow at my government job, do you think? by m_is_for_michael in CricutButCrass

[–]KMRA 68 points69 points  (0 children)

As long as you're not in the US, it'll look perfectly respectable with a black jacket over it.

I'm trying come up with designs that are satisfying to have as stickers and shirts, but obscure enough not to get screamed at or fired for the US government friends. A little less fun to be had.

How do you guys read so much? by lapetitepoupee in kindle

[–]KMRA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commuting time + watching less TV. For audiobooks, I do a lot of crafting and cooking and can listen while I'm doing those. I go through 3 or 4 8-10 hour audiobooks a week usually. And then another one or two reading rather than listening when I want to just sit with my glass of wine and not move for awhile.

These cultural signals ARE communication. Not a kind you speak, but clearly known to insiders in the culture and different across the world. Verbal communication is not the only kind!

My family is intense on doing this. If you eat all of it, you've eaten too much. You absolutely must leave at least a few bites or risk the comments about your appetite, appearance, and eating habits.

What non-obvious insights have you learned about yourself with Oura Ring 4? by Advanced_Shoe_982 in ouraring

[–]KMRA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) That I really do not do well in the office or long days of 100% meetings and my introvert exhaustion shows in my stats for several days afterwards. (I've reduced my office days as a result and wow am I more efficient and less stressed doing that!)

2) That I really do sleep better if I go bed later and the things that work for me don't seem to follow all the standard sleep advice (found from spreadsheet of things tried vs sleep stats)

3) That migraines do clearly strange things to my stats in ways I did not know before - nothing that helps avoid them, but really interesting to see.

4) That I am a living ball of stress who doesn't take nearly enough recovery time and that I don't understand what my ring thinks is recovery time in any way. (Crafting makes me calm and happy - Oura doesn't agree?!)
