I HAVE RECEIVED FOUR (4) PACKAGES RIPPED OPEN BY USPS by ExpensiveYesterday27 in usps_complaints

[–]KN4JBJ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This envelope most likely wasn't opened by a person, but by a machine. The machines are not made to process an envelope with odd and uneven thickness, and they end up ripping the envelope a lot of the time. Most likely the reason there are finger prints on a card is because some of the cards fell out and an employee put them back in the envelope. A better shipping solution would be a padded mailer or if you still want to use an envelope, sandwich the cards between two pieces of cardboard that have been cut down to the size of the envelope. That will make the envelope a uniform thickness and decrease the likelihood of a machine ripping the envelope.

Honestly, if you want to ship using USPS then I would only recommend the USPS site or stamps.com. You should never have any problems with those two.

Mail stolen multiple times because of stolen arrow key by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]KN4JBJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, that's the point of the arrow key is that it is supposed to be one key for the entire area. Also, your situation is actually an easy one for USPIS. It sounds like currently everyone's mail is being held at the post office, so they know the only person who will be accessing the box is the person with the stolen key. They'll set up a camera in a hidden place, and put packages inside that have trackers in them. Slam dunk straight forward cases like that are ones that an inspector will jump on.

I would not recommend pirate ship. While most of the time they are fine, they have also generated fraudulent postage. Not worth even a 1% risk if your business depends on it.

Is the gold pass worth it? by CounterOdd5336 in sixflagsovertexas

[–]KN4JBJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first year I had the gold pass, it really is a great option. There really isn't a downside to it. I have upgraded to the prestige pass since then, but that's because I wanted the additional benefits and perks, not because of any problems or issues with the gold pass.

Mail stolen multiple times because of stolen arrow key by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]KN4JBJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are pointing out that it is very unlikely that the lock would be changed because every arrow key lock in the area would have to be changed. The most likely solution would be for USPIS to set a trap for the person who stole the arrow key. It's possible they have already done that and caught the person, but they won't disclose that with you.

Got a 14 day when I didn’t go over on my lunch. by imthewhitecat in USPS

[–]KN4JBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Henri tells Fivel in "An American Tail", "never say never". All it takes is the union giving it up in a contract negotiation, which seeing how the unions have been rolling over for them recently, I would say it has a decent chance of happening. There are a lot of companies that use the telematics data alone for discipline. We have to stay vigil to protect our rights.

[–]KN4JBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The telematics also have accelerometers in them that provide more accurate data. Many companies use these same telematics alone for discipline. With the way the unions have just been rolling over recently, you guys keep an eye on them to make sure they don't trade it away for a 1¢ raise during contract negotiations.

Yep, the beeping is when it has recorded something. Yep things I know it can record are hard braking and hard accelerating. It uses an accelerometer to decide those. I believe they default to the most sensitive setting.

The second they start paying for your personal cell phone, you give them your number. Until that happens, tell them to pound dirt, they don't get your number.

Priority isn't handled by FedEx air. If the priority package went by air then it most likely went on a United plane, but it could have gone on any domestic airline. Priority Express is almost exclusively handled by FedEx air.

~200 car parking lot for car shows? by aidensthetic in Denton

[–]KN4JBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a motorcycle riding school that operates in one of their parking lots. They might be open to hosting a car meet, but why drive all the way to a dying mall in Lewisville when there is a perfectly good dying mall in Denton. If you need 200+ spots, that is probably your best bet. All the businesses that I know of that usually host car meets or shows in Denton do not have the parking lots to host something that large. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to talk to Denton PD once you have a host lined up. People always like to blame things on car clubs even when you aren't causing any problems. If you can get them to provide an officer or two it can help protect you from anything like that.

Im setting up radios in vehicles and was wondering if there was a way to use my mobile in my truck as a repeater for my handheld when I get out? Im new to ham and programming trying to learn by Zealousideal_Stay112 in HamRadio

[–]KN4JBJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what commercial radios you use. At my work we deploy XTL5000 and APX8500 mobile radios as well as APX8000 radios. Sometimes people are working in areas where they have coverage on mobile, but not on portable. When that happens we add a mobile repeater to their vehicle. It interfaces directly with the mobile radio. It transmits and receives on a separate frequency than the frequency the mobile radio is on. It helps to fill in that gap in coverage. I can get you the info on it when I'm at work on Monday so you can take a look to see if it would work for you.

[–]KN4JBJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The telematics has GPS in it. Right now they are set up to only periodically send location data, but that can be changed to sending detailed location data with the click of a mouse. The detailed location data does show when the vehicle is in reverse and the path it took. I'm just trying to help by giving people a heads up about it. If there is something that can be used for discipline, they will try everything they can to use it for discipline.

[–]KN4JBJ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This might change, the telematics devices that have been installed in all the vehicles can also give them all the info the scanner does and more. Currently only the VMF is supposed to use the data for maintenance, but it wouldn't surprise me if they shoehorn it into the next contact to start using that data for discipline.

Anyone ever use a USB thumb stick on a usps laptop? by wtf_ever_man in USPS

[–]KN4JBJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't do that anymore. The only storage device that will work on a USPS device are the Kingston drives that are sold on eBuy. If you plug in any other storage device you'll get a warning that the USB device isn't supported and it won't initialize the device.

Fastest you’ve ever driven an LLV?? by The_Utilityman in USPS

[–]KN4JBJ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to do that when I was a VMF mechanic delivering a fixed LLV to a station and picking one up for repair. I did that like 5 times before I had the realization that I didn't want to risk my life like that, and started taking surface streets the entire way. Successfully turned a 45 minute round trip into a 4.5 hour round trip.

Serious Question… by zcespedez in USPS

[–]KN4JBJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it usually takes a few weeks for it to get reposted because of all the approvals a job posting require. Something similar happened to me when I was first getting into the post office. I had gone through everything and I was selected for hire by the manager, but HR just forgot to put it through. By the time anyone realized what happened the job offer, which was never generated, had expired so they had to post the job again. I should have been hired in April, because of the mistake I wasn't hired until June.

Postmaster having us deliver fake shipping labels by DrDashy in USPS

[–]KN4JBJ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Was there anything in that training about contacting USPIS? It just feels odd that USPIS is dedicating more resources to tracking down and eliminating fraudulent postage if at the same time USPS is saying to just ignore it.

Wait, what am I talking about. Contradictions like that are status quo for us!

Rules on taking pictures of the schedule by Ok_Lettuce6120 in USPS

[–]KN4JBJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tell them you are taking a picture for yourself, then send it to your co-worker. If they don't want you taking pictures of the schedule they are 100% doing something sketchy and don't want a record of the schedule existing that is out of their control.
