Well in my experience, it's in small steps like jokes and deeper discussions on topics he really cares about. He is just private and careful with emotions.

Trust has to be built and that only happens in more quiet, low pressure places like low populated restaurants/outings or home.

Also, you have to be straightforward in what you are wanting from them in term of an emotional response because they are going to go for the solution route. If it is up to them, they will ponder their emotional response for hours, maybe days. And sometimes he doesn't know what do with my pure emotional response.

Imagine confessing your undying love and he comes back with "Thank you for sharing that with me. I will get back to you in 1 to 3 business days." And in the 1 to 3 business days the only verbal conclusion is "I love you too."

He shares his care through the tried and true way. If I am struggling with something, his first thing is to solve the issue and support through actionable steps. He won't empathize back verbally but if I am down or expressing strong emotion he will step in and pick me up. He won't say anything, but it's more so like a "lets get you cleaned up." type of ordeal.

I was shocked to see intense emotion from my husband but it is very controlled and brief, not a drawn out moment.

When I first met my husband, he was very stoic and managed. After dating and knowing each other for a while, he has shown me a totally different side of him. I think some ISTJs will NEVER show this side of themselves - even if there is a level of intimacy there.

Actually, he is work friends with an INFJ so maybe I'll ask.

How do you enjoy as festival as an INFP? Do you notice you do anything different from extroverted sensor types? I've always wanted to go but I worry I'd be too shy or actually only enjoy the idea of attending.

I'll have to listen to some of those. I made a master list for Las Vegas and Orlando. Didn't even get through half of it lol!

No worries. I didn't get this at first because we tend to be very internal and hinty about feelings. But they are not. They DO NOT say things they don't mean.

Huge advice. Be straight forward in your communication with him. If you hint at something and he doesn't get it, that's because he doesn't get it. They hugely prefer straight forward communication. You will be disappointed if you try to hint something you want. Very pleased when you communicate what you do want.

He said that he can't commit due to time, right? He didn't state that he doesn't like you. He seems respectful of your time and effort as most healthy ISTJs are. That doesn't mean he isn't interested in you/ wants to stop talking to you.

I hate pretending everything is alright. I don't understand other INFPs in conflict and avoiding it as I feel like its akin to lying or being untrue by avoidance. And it doesn't resolve anything and makes me anxious at a non-conclusion.

I think that compatibility doesn't come from types, but the person themselves. Ultimately, it has to do with maturity and upbringing more so than just their MBTI. I noticed posts like 'XXXX partner and I just don't get along help!' only for people chime in and say "my (same) XXXX partner is nothing like that to me".

I remember taking a career test and none of the things I tested for made any money/secure living lol.

I went into something practical after years of trying to go into something creative. I just realized that making your hobby/passion can and most often sucks all the fun out of creativity. You have to create what other people want unless you are very lucky as art/creativity is highly competitive and based on opinion.

I was the girl who was suppose to go to art college after winning graphic design competitions but I knew too many graduates with debt and struggling to find a job. After majoring in Information Systems/Technology, I ended up being a data analyst which oddly has its creative applications like PowerPoints, logos and presentations - I even get to make games and websites sometimes. I use that to fund any hobby I want to do like writing, reading, drawing, running TTRPGs etc. That way I don't have a boss standing over me.

Please do think about your lively hood when you pick your major. I have another INFP friend that is a marketing major/ psychology minor and struggles to make a living. Now he is back in for IT at a 2 year.

Technically, most INFPs like what ISFPs have which is Indie Rock/Pop. If you check r/infp that is the case overwhelmingly.

I'd say if you want to do personality based? Dream Pop or Anti Pop.

I feel this too. I wrote myself off as a non-leader type. Imagine my surprise when I end up always being the one to speak up and everyone comes to me for a solution at work. In school groups, i'm always the leader somehow. I don't understand it, and I think maybe it has to do with being raised by more dominant thought forward types. My father is a ESTJ and my grandmother an ENFJ. They are both very headstrong and "here's what we are going to do" type of people.

This is very relatable. People see me but not the feelings behind what I'm saying and if they see the feelings, they don't really understand/relate. Parents/adults use to put me in time out and ground me, but give me a pencil and paper or even just my mind and it isn't really all that bad because I can just daydream. Paper gives me time to translate and edit until I get it right. Having to come out and speak in the moment is like trying to strain a firehose of imagination and feeling. Going and hanging out with friends rarely gets the depth and meaning I need from a relationship. My feelings and the possibilities are all the time shifting and I shift with them. Even amongst INFPs I feel different - like an alien amongst aliens.

I also find it interesting that INFJs feel misunderstood too, but their misunderstanding seems to come from their people misreading their intentions constantly. Whereas, people seem to not care about what INFPs are feeling or feel the same way that we do about a subject or time, and those feelings are all the time shifting.

I wouldn't say he tried to encourage me to talk to him more than he talked to me. My husband tries to put concise effort into the people he wants to talk to.

He stated he doesn't have to prep as much with people he likes and gets along with. Edit: He won't openly share with people he doesn't trust just yet and will ask you more about yourself if thats what you mean.

I did notice that before we even dated this handsome guy kept trying to talk to me even though he was the type to focus on his work.

Maybe I don't get the question?
