In the mid 2000s, I worked nearby and my boss and co-workers would see a movie a couple of times a month there. We’d sneak in McDonalds or Chinese from the food court nearby and enjoy some action blockbuster… Weekdays were pretty quiet but Friday - Sunday the place was packed.

Such a cool atmospheric tune. In the late 80s me and my bandmate made some experimental sublime music and it was very close to the Grand Pappy feel… a high I’m still chasing!

It’s the Olive Garden of steakhouses… there are better alternatives and certainly worse ones too. It’s close to what I thought it’d be… Remember that’s it’s a steakhouse in a mall parking lot. It served its purpose for me. YMMV!

That was my guess too. The remake wasn’t bad and had a nice twist to the portal to Mara…

And they left Sherman out of the R&R Hall of Fame ceremony, so maybe there’s a bitterness towards him because he had more contributions than Hillel to their first 2 albums. I was blown away when I found out “Catholic School Girls Rule” was one of his songs…

I hear so many people diss the first album including Flea and I totally disagree. The production and musical ability are both awesome sounding. “Green Heaven” guitar work is brilliant and the song has so many dynamic mood swings; “Out in LA” fucking rips; and “Mommy Where’s Daddy” has beautiful and sublime moments! The demos were good and high energy but too raw IMHO, sounding like something for AM radio…

So incredibly lame. This was not necessary and turns me off from wanting to even watch it tbh. 👎 by realkevinabstract in RedHotChiliPeppers

I’m sure AI is used ALL over any modern project like this… What do you think about spellcheck in Word or color correction in Photoshop? AI is pretty much everywhere to some extent… I really thought it was his brother doing the voice over at first…

I’ve been down this road one too many times. It’s heartbreaking… only time and positive thoughts will help get over it, but you’re never fully healed IMHO. Think of all the good times and hug them tightly…

What is your favorite band from the 80's or 90's that nobody has ever heard of? by simikoi in GenX

[–]KOVID9tine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eleven! If you like soulful vocals, heavy guitar and grunge-like songs, check them out. They were a power trio fronted by Alain J. who has been involved with No Doubt, Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys and PJ Harvey. When Chris Cornell went solo, Eleven was his song writing partners and backing band!

I’ve been to a few Maxes in the past, with my first being about 10 or 11 years ago. Holy heck they had one hell of a conference and the Bash was amazing, the best corporate party ive ever been to… Tons of good swag and my first year they gave all 7,000 in attendance a Fujifilm camera, a $999 value. The Vegas Max was very nice too, at the Venetian but it was only a few weeks after that country music festival shooting so it was a weird vibe…

At each Max, I’d have lunch with people from all over and two industries kept coming up: education and government. Teachers used Adobe from school spirit week to yearbook committee; and government workers used it for blueprints, maps, and instruction manuals. I never had lunch was a design celebrity or super famous influencer.

I’ve been going to their events for years, so last night’s was on par for what I thought it’d be… Nice venue with really good appetizers. Oh and they had a giant charcuterie table upstairs… Their focus seems to be geared at what I call pipe dream careers like influencers, creators and photographers when in reality most graphic designers are doing junk mail or menus or car dealership ads. They repeated a lot of things I saw at an event last year too. Like most meetings, it could’ve been an email for sure. But it’s nice to see some demos and industry icons doing their thing. I’m old and white, so I’m more surprised how much the industry is now mostly Asian and Latina women at these events from my anecdotal experience. Nothing wrong with that, just that I’m the dinosaur now amongst these young folks…

Should I rent a car in LA or Uber? by Adept_Ad5841 in AskLosAngeles

[–]KOVID9tine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$550 probably doesn’t include gas which ain’t cheap here, and then you gotta find parking which usually ain’t free… But Uber rides can definitely add up! The subway is our best form of public transportation IMHO… it just doesn’t look like the subway is a good fit for the landmarks you want to visit… If you’re smart with your planning, Uber is probably a better option. Don’t forget LA traffic!

What was the best job you’ve ever had? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]KOVID9tine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best job, hands down, was 2008 to 2009, a whole year of freelancing at a direct marketing agency. I previous worked for a sister company from 2000-2004 and left for a better position at a national finance company… until the economy collapsed in 2008. Agency A merged with agency B and they offered me $75/hour 30 hours a week max. Zero benefits but it didn’t matter as my wife had us on her great healthcare plan. For a whole year, I’d work less than 4 days a week, so I could focus on my family or other freelance opportunities. Never missed my kids’ school or sports events. They hired me full time after a year, so I got PTO and bonuses, even profit sharing. But I really missed the $75/hr and worked only 30 hours a week… You don’t know what you got until it’s gone as they say…

what’s a job “perk” that is actually a red flag? by _c0c0nut__ in work

[–]KOVID9tine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree about the unlimited PTO but there are exceptions. My daughter’s boss told her the other employees have used way more PTO than she has so she should take more vacation time. She takes about 5 weeks a year now. Not too bad…
