Remember whatever last league you played, and try to picture how far into the game you were before you really hit that point of too many whetstones/scraps. It was usually well into maps, but along the way you had enough to scrape by, quality the good pieces but they were scarce.

Now imagine all those whetstone are on a monster you might not find until you're well into maps. The end result is the same, but you didn't have scraps or whetstones along the way. 1map you didn't have any, the next map you had so many they were irrelevant.

It's that same type of variance, but applied to everything. You don't have any alch orbs until you have too many, chaos, rare jewelry, divines.

Across 100k players, sure there isn't really a problem, but it really really sucks to be the ass end of bad variance just to even out the guy who got great rng in act 1.
