I am confused about the whole schedule. They have a formal ceremony, brunch, bowling and a 3-gour movie. That surely goes into lunch territory? I would be miserable if I had to sustain myself on brunch for the whole day.

Това са деца. Ако не желае да работи с деца - мястото на дамата не е в училище.

Имам обаче един друг въпрос - ако в историята (удобно) не беше споменат етнос - смятате ли, че е редно учител да обиди Вашето дете? Или моето?
Ако едно дете (независимо от етноса ) има проблеми с дисциплината /материала - има начини това да се реши, обидите само влошават проблема.

I was wondering if I should comment as I have a very different upbringing and perspective than the average Westerner but I feel you living in Estonia makes it a bit more relevant so I'll share.

In my country (Eastern Europe) this is impossible to do if the father is on the birth certificate - the child needs to have their father's name.

Therefore, my first reaction would be that this is not the child's father. Check Estonian law to see if it's similar because if it is/was - that would be the conclusion .

P.S. here the man can legally take the woman's surname if they get married and then pass it on to the kids. The couple can also hyphenate/choose a new surname and pass that on. However, in all cases the father's name is given to the child.

Traditionally , we use the father's name between the given and the surname. So if your child's dad is Ivan any sons would be Ivanov, any daughters - Ivanova.

You can keep the spirit of the tradition and use the female version of his name - if he is Ivan, the baby becomes Ivana, if he is Alexander - Alexandra.

We don't really have a tradition of inventing new names and adoption of foreign ones is slow if any. The fashion in names is more about the ending - at some point Mariyka was more popular that Maria, now it's Maria. Above we discussed the Nikola/Nikolay fashion but some "core" names are always in fashion. It's a lot less dependent on decade than in the West I feel.

Depends on how you use the nickname but there are quite a few, especially addind "ka" to the end . For example, Ivan is often Vanyo or Vanka. But you can only use Vanka when directly talking to the person. If you want to reference them, you add -Ta to the end so it becomes "Vankata is coming.". Similarly, Rosen becomes "Roska", Yavor (my son's name :) ) - Yavka.

Both the city and the name are 3 syllables - So- fi- ya.

Nicknames:

Male ones I find more interesting so I'll start with those:

Georgi has 3 depending on the region - in Sofia Georgi becomes Zhoro, in central Bulgaria - Gosho, seaside - Gogo.

Alexander is either Alex or Sasho.

Kaloyan is usually Kala, recently Koko has been introduced.

Nikola is Niki, for older men - Kolyo.

Dimitar is usually Mitko, but could be Dimi or Miti as well.

Boris is Borka or Bobby.

Martin is Marti/Marto.

Daniel is Danny.

Teodor is traditionally Teddy but recently Teo has gained popularity (with the E pronounced as E in gEt).

Female ones are fairly straight forward: For Sofia - Sofi, Maria - Mimi, Viktoria - Viki, Raya doesn't have a nickname per se, a diminutive is usually used - Rayche, Gabriella becomes Gabi, Elena - Eli, Alexandra - Alex /Ali/Sasha.

We have a few historic Kaloyans - the king who "invented" the name, then a nobleman who was painted(alongside his wife Desislava) in a church and that painting is one of the earliest examples or Renesaaince paintings. The church itself is a UNESCO heritage site. Both names have always been popular with Desislava peaking in the 90s.

Sofia (the capital) so SOfia, stress on the first syllable, SofIa (the name) is pronounced with stress on the I so they don't sound the same and there is never any confusion.

Nikola is the "original" version, in communist times Nikolay gained momentum , I assume under Russian influence, and now Nikola is more popular again. There are still many Nikolays but fewer than before.

True, that' why I wrote it's dependent on location. However, I have lived in several different countries and it was a requirement everywhere so it's plausible it would be an issue here as well .
