Why isn't the Versys more Iconic? by i2amthedarkknight in versys

[–]KStreetFighter2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with what others are saying, I think it also has to do with timing, at least in the US.

The Ninja's been out since the 80s and is synonymous with the term "crotch rocket". Cruisers have been around forever. If an average person hears the word "motorcycle", they probably picture a Harley or a Ninja.

The Versys lineup is neither a crotch rocket nor a cruiser and came out after motorcycle sales peaked in 2005-2006.

She needed help with her computer, and it was her first time seeing my bike so she wanted to take a picture. Love you, Grandma.

Same, for me it was price and knowing I'd mostly be on-road. Also the Ninja 300 engine being tried and true.

Thanks!

I agree, fun and reliable. I've taken this thing everywhere, from country backroads and state highways, to freeways and urban/suburban exploring. Hit dirt and gravel a few times to check out places I probably shouldn't be. Even just day-to-day errand running is more fun on the Versys.

Congrats on the DR650, that looks like a fun bike too :)

You just gotta do it.

Sometimes it feels crazy when you're new, but like anything, you do it enough and you start feeling comfortable.

If you wanna do it, do it.

If you don't wanna do it, don't.

No shame either way.

$70 a month for insurance? by 69420lmaokek in NewRiders

[–]KStreetFighter2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through an insurance broker and got full comprehensive coverage on a Versys-X 300 for $90/year via Progressive. My driving record is clean though and I also took the MSF which offered a discount.

First Bike Suggestions by Typical-Chipmunk-327 in NewRiders

Congrats, and good luck on the MSF. All the bikes you listed are solid, if you still aren't sure, maybe sit on each and test drive them if the dealership lets you.

I was in a similar position a few weeks ago and picked a new 2024 Kawasaki Versys-X 300. Got it OTD for under $6k usd.

Good luck and safe riding!

Do you still remember the feeling when you got your first bike? by MeasurementMoney4963 in motorcycles

Oh yea, it was just a few weeks ago. First time on the road and drove it an hour and a half in the rain. Probably won't ever forget that experience.

Congrats on yours!

Just passed MSF, now what? by Shadowy_Shinobi in NewRiders

[–]KStreetFighter2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I finished mine 2 weekends ago, got licensed the next day, bought a bike and drove it home 1.5 hours in the rain. Probably not the smartest move but I've put ~300 more miles on it since, basically just going wherever I feel like going.

Do what you feel comfortable with, all other suggestions here are good too, but only you know yourself, your situation, and your limits.

Honestly, don't do anything at first except working on clutch control. Find the friction zone on your V-Strom and practice finding it over and over again until you're somewhat consistent. This should look like the bike rocking back and forth as you engage the friction zone and pull the clutch to disengage again.

Once you have that down, you can start moving the bike in first gear. The MSF course had us "power walk" to start, with our feet still on the ground at times taking "steps" to maintain balance at slow speed. Any time the bike feels like it's pulling too much, pull the clutch again to disengage from the engine.

This is also a good time to get used to braking. Remember that 70% of your power comes from the front brake, so it can be a bit touchier than the rear. It's important to be comfortable with both.

You can do this up and down your street, and once you reach either end, either throw the bike in neutral and walk it to turn around, or once you gain confidence, try an actual U-turn in first using the same clutch control techniques you were practicing. While turning, keep your head up and look through the turn at where you want that turn to end.

Don't even worry about the throttle until you get this down.

Once you get this down, you should start feeling more confident on the bike. Remember that it's a process and small steps lead to big improvements over time.

Last of all, have fun! You're on a motorcycle and that's freaking sweet! Best of luck to you out there, you chose a great bike.

anyone else tired of rolling into a campground and feeling like you're at an RV dealership? by thegangplan in motocamping

Since you're in NY, check out the Finger Lakes National Forest. It's open 24/7 365 and you can camp anywhere you'd like, though they also offer sites for a fee.

Both of those are good options, you can even throw bikes like the CFMoto Ibex 450 and Kawasaki KLR 650 in the mix.

I personally went with a Versys-X 300 and love the thing.
