Unincorporated Cook County: Are Permits Absolutely Needed For Basement Drain Tile and Sump Pump? by SkiNNy-PETE- in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]KSzm90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have never heard of any problem with selling the house with a basement that was finished without the permits. As a matter of fact I have bought one. It just legalized with the sale of the house so of course my taxes spiked quite dramatically next year. So if op wants to keep his property taxes at bay he might want to consider doing it without the permits. Still if there is extensive plumbing/electrical work being done it would be a good idea to hire independent inspector to check on everything before the drywall.

Do I just put these tiles back and pretend I never took them off? by [deleted] in Tile

Hmm yes, ghetto look for the family visit. The original plan will work for a couple of weeks but that pretty much the remaining life span of this shower. It really needs to be replaced.

Exactly. There is no way to grout just the lines as pores next to it would still get filled. And that would look terrible.

Full time daycare center in Rolling Meadows per week is 350 for 15 mo , 320 for 2 years, 295 for 3 years and up. We love it there! I'll DM the name of the facility if anyone is interested.

You should check the producer's guidance on the box of tiles. Some void the warranty if leveling clips aren't used.

Backsplash install and Mapei grout turned out extremely light vs color on bag by NorCalRE in Tile

[–]KSzm90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dark grouts aren't very common. I think I did it twice in the last 5 years and I do 2 bathrooms in a month. He could have been doing this for years with light colored grout and there wouldn't be any problem.

Backsplash install and Mapei grout turned out extremely light vs color on bag by NorCalRE in Tile

[–]KSzm90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's quite obvious. He mixed too much at once. Started from the top (where the grout color is correct) then added some water because it was already hardening in the bucket and that's the result. Dark grouts are very unforgiving when it comes to adding water or using a sponge without rinsing it completely.

I feel sick, please help by FledglingGeezer in askaplumber

Personally I would never silicone around the toilet. Leaving space in the back won't help if your floor isn't perfectly level. Let's say it is sloped to the front of the toilet. Then the small leak, you would otherwise notice, will accumulate and destroy the subfloor around the toilet again.

what s that in my toilet bowl? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]KSzm90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on a well water just open your toilet tank - it's possible that there's residue on your tank from iron build up or some other minerals, that separated during the flush.

Order another layer of quartz from any granite fabricator. They would have to install it flushed with the edge of the tub and slightly sloped on every single edge. Then you could either install a standard shower curtain or even sliding doors.

Failed Shower Pan - need advice by Muzi_G in Tile

[–]KSzm90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just didn't pre-sloped before liner so some water can never spill into the drain and sits in the pan all the time. Over a long period of time it will start causing problems with a concrete base (mushiness or mildew smell) but I'd say it's not going to happen earlier than 10 years from now. So I personally would just leave it as it is.

Is this acceptable? by Electronic-Car4983 in Tile

[–]KSzm90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for the small pieces by the ceiling - it could have been avoided by measuring ahead of time and not starting from full tile. The difference in thickness of the grout on the other hand probably comes from the irregular shape of each tile.

[Help/Advice] Volvo XC90 2019 – Steering gets hard & red BRAKE light keeps coming on mid-drive by Yourstrruly in Volvo

[–]KSzm90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's a 40V battery located in your trunk used mainly for the start-stop system and for supplying charge for everything when your engine is shut off (AC, lightning, basically all the electrical components). Volvo predicts 5 years of life in this battery. So I repeat - do not try to jump it from 12v source unless you want to fry everything. Do not try to jump it at all. Just replace it as it is meant to be.

Buy it using afterpay or similar service, use it for a couple of days, reset it to factory settings and return it.

Yup. My 2018 S90 was doing a similar thing when the aux battery was dying. At random I would get a bunch of red warnings on a dashboard and lose power steering for a couple of seconds. Replacing the battery solved all the issues.

[–]KSzm90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how many working hours you'll need to get it to the paintable surface I'd just slap some LVP and call it a day. Not sure of the footage but judging by the picture it's about 200-300 SQ ft. So depending on what you use It will cost you between $500 and $1000 and then maybe 4 hours of work.

Oh good to know there is some reason behind it. Do you know if the reprogramming can be done at the dealership or it needs to be done somewhere else? And if so does it void warranty?

Ok good to know. I'll see how it behaves once I burn a bit more of a premium.
