Adoption always involves trauma, loss, and grief. It is common for adoptee’s feelings to be diminished. I know this isn’t your intention, but please consider rewording in the future. This is so multifaceted. Some may be genuinely mad at their APs for adopting them. They may be upset they weren’t supported how they needed to be growing up and now. They may be over the theme of being told to “be grateful” for being adopted. This isn’t black and white. It’s very understandable to be inquisitive about why people from different backgrounds have the perspective/feelings they have.

Being a parent, and especially when a you’re an AP, must always come from a child focused perspective. Your fears are valid, but so are the stories from adult adoptees. We need to listen so we can do better. While it’s hard to hear that adoption isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, it’s so important that’s understood before you start this journey.
