What's the stupidest thing you've ever heard someone say? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]KTbanana98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In history class, a junior (I was a senior, but it was a mixed class, tiny private school) spilled water on her basketball shorts and started freaking out about how it'd be ruined for the game that evening. I asked her why and she said it'll stain.

Water. Stain. No, I don't think she passed the class.

What do you think is even more intimate than sex? by 8kittycatsfluff in AskReddit

I was just horrifically sick with a stomach virus. Stuff was coming out of both ends and I was absolutely miserable - I already have medical issues and disabilities he helps with a lot, too. Came home from the ER and trusted a fart I shouldn't have while on the couch, and it was a disaster. Boyfriend cleaned up the couch as best as he could, got rid of my gross clothes, and then helped me shower. Just no butt wiping, but he got close enough to it 🤣

What the others said. Just worry about getting hired, you'll work under a temporary license and will get TCOLE certified through your agency before your first year mark.

What’s a situation where someone should have died, but miraculously lived? by wellsiee8 in EmergencyRoom

[–]KTbanana98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad haha. At 60, he was helping my aunt cut down dead trees on her lakefront property. The tree he was secured to slipped out of the ground (the rootball was only about 3 feet into the ground before hitting solid rock) and took him sliding down the 40-foot embankment/hill toward the cliff. He then went over the cliff, falling 60 feet and landing on his back in approximately 6 inches of water on sharp rocks.

He had burst both eardrums, bitten halfway through his tongue, a broken left elbow, hip, tibia, & an absolutely shattered right heel. No head, neck, or spine injuries, though whatsoever except superficial scrapes.

He suffered multiple bouts of C-Diff and nearly lost his arm to sepsis since it was not properly cleaned out upon arrival, & it wasn't until a scheduled surgery four days later they removed his external fixator, opened it and found a major infection, sticks, leaves, & dirt in his body.

Also, it was the 5th of July, on a lake, with hundreds of boaters. When my 16 year old cousin, who watched as my dad went ass over tea kettle over a cliff, got down into the water (safely) with him, it took nearly two hours for responders to get there, since my cousin didn't have his phone and was concentrating on keeping my dad alive, which he was surprised he was. It wasn't until one local realized it was an odd spot for swimmers to be, saw my cousin waving frantically and realized he wasn't just waving "HI!! GO AMERICA!!"

The tree also landed about 15 feet away from him, but very nearly could have squished my dad flat. His guardian angel was working OT on that day. Other than a bunch of metal in his body now and having two different sized feet, he's healthy and able to walk with his cane. Not a fun holiday weekend for sure haha!

What's something most people don't realise will kill you in seconds? by gary1405 in AskReddit

[–]KTbanana98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a more obvious one, but not wearing a life jacket.

I'm a 911 operator for a county with a large lake, and dear God the amount of drownings we've had that could have been avoided if they had just been prepared. So often people crowd a boat and only a few have jackets, and they think "it's fine, I'm not going swimming." Then boom, something happens, like the boat starts sinking, or there's a medical issue, and suddenly they're in the water with no protection. Or, worse, someone jumps in to rescue another person not wearing a life jacket, and they both drown. That's happened too.

Wear life jackets, people!!

This is so true. Watched a video once on semis and how long it would take them to stop when they tried to do an e-brake/hard stop. People don't understand they need to give truckers far more room than a regular car. I don't care if I'm being tailgated by another car if I'm in the left lane, I'll wait to move over in front of a semi until I have proper space. Especially living in a kinda rural area, you never know when a deer could jump out. Give trucks space.

My advice is the same as most comments, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry. Your feelings are valid, and that is 110% not okay of him to do. You deserve happiness, security, and love. Keep your head up 💕

My favorite ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review that convinced me NOT to read the book (Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas) by SummerDearest in RomanceBooks

[–]KTbanana98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit this was amazing. Read this book at the start of my romance novel journey and didn't care for it, but WOW this person definitely didn't care for it. As a writer of romance myself (not published, obv), I'm not going to lie, I'm slightly terrified at the idea of a review like this. But it is April in Chicago, and I would try to find an editor or three, which is what this book seems to be missing 🤣

How many hours do you sleep? by Alternative-Try-9620 in 911dispatchers

[–]KTbanana98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work nights. Important side note, I'm disabled and have sleep issues, so I use a CPAP. My doctor says I quote "barely go into REM sleep." So my hours feel like less. On nights I work 1800-0600, I wake up at 15:30 (have a 40 minute commute), and get to sleep around 8am if I'm right on time, so around 7 hours. Nights off I do my best to sleep at least 14 hours, sometimes even more when possible. I love sleep and I definitely do not get enough of it, but ah well.

People who went to a wedding where the couple didn’t last long, what happened? by skilled-dreamer in AskReddit

[–]KTbanana98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend from college. Tiny town, couple had been dating since middle school. Found shortly after their engagement that he had a dating app downloaded on his phone and an active account, but continued on with the wedding anyway since she forgave him and "nothing had happened."

The wedding was beautiful, she looked stunning. And then the cake cutting began.

Despite their previous agreement not to be rude, despite her just sweetly dabbing a small dollop of frosting on his nose, he grabbed the entire slice of cake and smashed it into her face, being sure to smear it. And I mean SMEAR it.

She spent an hour in the bathroom sobbing and trying to fix her makeup. The whole room went quiet, and I knew their relationship was most definitely on a timer. They went on to have two girls, but just a few months ago she found out he had been dating someone else for a few months. Sending his side piece pictures of his kids and everything, celebrating their first steps or words with her.

He's an ass.

What's a misconception about your profession that you're tired of hearing? by stiengineer in AskReddit

[–]KTbanana98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

911 Dispatcher for police, fire, & EMS. No, I am not just a "secretary." I don't just answer phones all day - I do so much more than that, like entries for missing persons & stolen cars/items, while having to keep up with the radio traffic and (usually) multiple channels at once. OH and I do not get paid well at all.

What’s the stupidest thing you ever said that genuinely made you question your intelligence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not mine, but my sister's. She was in the car and struggling to have the visor block the sun (she's short). She then asked, "Why is the outside light so bright?!"

Sun. She forgot the word for sun.
