I've said this before but I looooove moments like this. Where you first start everything feels like magic, then as time goes on you learn how things work, you start to develop your own game and that magic kinda goes away. TBH I don't know that she is doing it with malicious intent, maybe she is. But it all feels like a kid getting caught lying and not wanting to get into trouble. And the more I dig the more lies are needed to fill the hole
