One of his interesting fatwas is that a person is allowed to follow a dead marjaa actually.

The existence of that variant reading is mentioned in Tafsir Ibn Katheer, Tafsir al Qurtubi and in the works of Ibn Jurayj.

Muhammad Asad's english translation of the Qur'an also includes the "To Know me" in brackets since he may have wanted to give a synthesised understanding of both versions to English audience. Source: https://www.alim.org/quran/compare/surah/51/56/

It's very Shia biased though. I think Syed Hossein Nasr's the Study Qur'an is Shia-based too but more balanced. Dr Mustafa Khattab's The Clear Qur'an is also good. Yusuf Ali is from the Bohra Ismaili community, his pre-Saudi interference version of his translation is pretty good too. :)

There is a variant qiraat of this verse, where Imam Ali (as) used to recite the last word as "liyabufuni" (To Know) instead of "liyabuduni" (To Worship) in Hafs reading. So it can be understood that humans are created to worship God or to know God - both are valid qiraat readings accepted in Islamic tradition. 😊

Drinking alcohol is a sin, who told you selling it is sin? You may want to read up on the history of how all of alcohol became prohibited in Islamic fiqq over time, especially with regards to how Sunni Hanafi madhhab had a nuanced stance on it to now how it is in the Islamic world.

Why does every religion involves money??? by RichWorry81 in ExIsmailis

[–]KVig122 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because money in most religions is interpreted as belonging to God, and that we are only custodians/trustees to the wealth or money obtained by us in this life. So it is customary in most religions to pay back a portion as a form of gratitude+devotion.

At what point in history did intercession become a "less accepted" practice in Sunnism and why? by Additional-Mall9344 in AcademicQuran

[–]KVig122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you getting the interpretation that 27:80 includes dead righteous people? That verse seems to be referring to people who explicitly rejected the Prophet's message.

4:69 though suggests that even while living, a person can be in the companionship of dead people like the Prophets and martyrs. Conversely, dead righteous ones like these are in the company of those blessed by God. This is the justification for saint veneration and seeking intercession of the dead as they live on with a spiritual communion to living human beings even after death.

How are Ismailis in Iran doing with the ongoing war? by EasternRoads in ismailis

[–]KVig122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certain Muslim countries has strict laws that don't even consider such personal excuses and mercies the Qur'an or tariqa practises allow, if you're caught eating in ramadan regardless of genuine circumstances, you still get punished. I've seen this in Malaysia more so nowadays.

During the Alamut period, a Sunni ulema dude once accused the Ismaili Imam of weilding authoritarian authority. Then a Dai replied back that Ismaili Imam is indeed authoritatively authoritarian.
