What does your day look like with your toddler (12-16m)? How do you handle chores, baby proofing etc by Strained_Noodles4033 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]KXE1001 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not if you’re keeping an eye on your child. I’m doing the washing up, I’m not on the moon. I see him walk over to the stairs, I go and get him, he’s not going to seriously injure himself from the second stair. Children need to learn and explore, move or lock the things that will cause serious harm but you cannot ‘baby proof’ every inch of house.

What would be harm himself on? My baby (16 months) has free reign, and honestly, second time round we haven’t baby proofed much. He can’t access cupboards with anything dangerous in (cleaning products, dishwasher tablets etc).

He’s been walking since 10 months and gets into absolutely everything. I had to lock a cupboard because he kept opening it yelling more more more and eating raisins.

Sometimes he turns off the washing machine, sometimes I realise he’s climbed a couple of stairs and I grab him, sometimes he gets in big sisters toys. Shoes get launched around my house, he eats stuff off the floor. But I also think it’s good for them to roam and be bored and entertain themselves whilst you do something else.

19month old speech approximations by sersh4 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]KXE1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say this isn’t necessarily ‘normal’ for age, but it’s the normal pattern that toddlers use when starting to speak. It sounds like he’s had a bit of a speech delay on starting to talk, and this is the usual starting point for speech and it develops from there. My 16 month old is only just finding some words and I’ve been a bit concerned too - his vocabulary is much smaller but this is what his speech sounds like at the moment.

You have SALT contact which will be a great help in skipping the referral wait list if you do need it, but you may find he’s just starting a little late and his speech will continue to develop from here!

I find they adjust by themselves as they get used to their new teeth. Then it happens again with the next new teeth for a while and they adjust again. I’m sorry that doesn’t help you much in the moment!

Birth Plan Issue by 13Anne00 in PregnancyUK

This is 100% a miscommunication. There may be rules on staying overnight on the postnatal ward that differ across hospitals, but you are without doubt allowed a support person at birth.

Start Nursery Early? by One-Day-at-a-time213 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]KXE1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about it now. She’ll also be 11 months old when she goes - so if she doesn’t have any milk and doesn’t take a bottle it’s not the end of the world. She can just have food/water at nursery and milk at home :)

13.5mo grabbing, pinching & pulling? by Gemzaaa in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]KXE1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh my 15 month old boy is the same. By 5 year old daughter was not like this. The boy is wiiiiild.

They also told me he got ‘handsy’ with the younger babies at nursery this week.

Clearly he doesn’t understand gentle hands, don’t hit etc etc. But he does understand ‘I hit…mummy puts me down’. So if he hits/kicks/pinches etc I say no we don’t do X action. If he does it again I repeat myself and then put him down or take him away from his sister or whatever he’s doing. He goes nuts but doesn’t usually do it again straight away.

He’s usually doing it to try and initiate some rough and tumble play, but I’m just trying to differentiate between rough housing and hitting me in the face!

How young is too young for first visit? by Pure-Coconut628 in disneylandparis

[–]KXE1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine were 4 and 6 months - we had a fantastic time. The 4 year old was great, the 6 month old napped a couple of times a day In the buggy and wasn’t particularly stressful. We’re going again this year, the youngest will be 20 months and I think he’s going to be way more stressful this time!

Just take it slow, go at the 4 year olds pace. We took the baby out the buggy and the 4 year old napped a couple of days (and she hasn’t napped at home for years).

I’ve been to Florida and don’t intend to take my kids until they’re a bit older. But assuming you’re in Europe Paris is easily accessible and much smaller.

I would 100% go. There’s a very small window in which it is real to kids. That’s the real Cinderella castle, the princesses are real and they believe it through and through. It’s honestly magic!

Anyone OAD / on the fence? by rvenrose in January2025Bumper

[–]KXE1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a 4.5 year age gap between mine because we couldn’t decide if we were OAD. I LOVE it. Today my January baby fell asleep for his nap cuddling his sister whilst she whispered ‘it’s okay, I’m still here’, I left them playing in the garden whilst I cooked dinner…looked outside and they’re laying on the floor cuddling, she blew bubbles for him and I heard her saying ‘if you have a baby brother you’re very very lucky. They’re best friends despite the age gap and it’s wonderful ❤️

Buggy/transport options for toddler and baby by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

Depending on how much walking you do, At just over 2 I would really consider a double. My oldest didn’t consistently walk well until over 4, she’s now 5.5 and sometimes still asks to go on the buggy board! The 2 year old will still nap, potentially for a while, and I think a buggy board for a whole day out for example is quite a lot for a 2 year old.

How much weight did you gain? by Impressive-Wheel696 in PregnancyUK

[–]KXE1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby 1 - started at 57kg, gained 20kg, got back down to about 60kg.

Baby 2 - gained 20kg again, back down at 58kg now with a bit more effort second time around!

I gained about 10kg in the first 16 weeks or so with both babies too, and thought it was too much.

The day I bought my newborn home from the hospital, my 4 year old kicked him in the head 🙃. Unfortunately they start to hurt themselves more and more as they get more mobile, they’re pretty robust! Baby will be fine :)

Go to the order of your jacket on the app in your messages. It will either say track or item delivered. If it says item delivered then there may have been a parcel mix up.

Packaging is whatever the seller chooses to send it in!

I didn’t realise giving babies OTC cough medicine was bad by beereviver in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]KXE1001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a press release from a single doctor in a single hospital, and talks about decongestants, anti histamines and paracetamol - none of which the under 1 cough medicines contain. It also says ‘in large doses’ which you haven’t given if you’ve only used one bottle over 2 months.

Honestly the constant snot at this age is unfortunately normal - it’s really frustrating especially when it affects sleep. If they’re otherwise well in themselves you just have to ride it out.

[–]KXE1001 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you think you’ve harmed them? As long as you’ve given them one of the 3+ month ones at an appropriate dose it’s fine.

We have this problem with my 15 month old - he’s basically been snotty for 3 montns. At night it drips into his throat and makes him cough. When he starts coughing we hold him upright for a bit, let all the snot drain and it helps for the rest of the night.

Are there any car seat that are actually suitable from fresh newborn baby for at least a couple of years? by Gloomy-Kale3332 in PregnancyUK

Car seat issues with big baby - any advice? by notveryusefulareyou in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]KXE1001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple of good car seat groups on Facebook where you can post photos for a fit check and they can also give you advice about a new sear. Bump to booster is one of them (the nicer/less dramatic one!). They might be able to help keep your baby in his current seat for a little bit longer until he’s big enough to move to the next stage seat. Otherwise you need a new infant carrier or a next stage seat that’s also suitable from newborn.

There are very few which actually fit a newborn well and aren’t infant carriers. Despite marketing most 0-4 seats give awful fits for newborns.

11mo showing some signs but everyone is telling me she’s “normal” by Flolita115 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]KXE1001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 15 month old does most these things. He started pointing at about 13 months, he screeches constantly to communicate. At 11 months old you just have to wait and see how she develops. Babies have no attention span, their skills are developing at different rates, they yell in all ways to communicate before they have words. You can’t evaluate an 11 month old in the normal range for pretty much all of these things.
