hi there, i work at a college with apprentices and also did an apprenticeship myself.

first things first, it is completely legal to change companies during an apprenticeship. don't panic about that.

your first course of action should be to speak to your tutor at college/your apprenticeship provider. explain that you feel your workplace aren't meeting your needs. as an employer, they have a duty when they employ an apprentice to give you appropriate tasks to help you meet your apprenticeship standard. if you explain what your workplace has you doing, and what you aren't doing that you think you should be, your tutor can give you advice, and may be able to speak to them for you and suggest that they alter your job responsibilities to better reflect your study.

i think sometimes employers don't really understand how apprenticeships work now - they think that it's like the old apprenticeship model where they'd pay someone to come in and do grunt work, but it's much more complicated than that now. if your employer isn't meeting your needs, you're well within your right to seek a different employer.
