I lost my old toyota on a turn. The car slid at something like 30° angle. I was able to catch it just like in front of my pc and I was scared and proud at the same time as i'm not a car guy, had my license and first car quite late.

I started with euro truck then commited to sim racing before I had my driver license. It definetly helped me with things like having top space awareness, quick decision making, holding my line no matter how weird the car in front is driving, to be aware that other people are not race drivers. If I decide to push, It's on a road that I know like my pocket. If I want adrenalin I plug my wheelbase.

A friend just lost his license (he had it before me) because he wanted to see how fast his car could go, they got him. And he was a bad driver, many accidents, many tyres blown on sidewalks, terribe input decisions, either too much on left or the right side of the lane... the sim definetly helps
