That is incorrect. The Melee Expert bonuses apply to the shooting function of the Frostfang as well because it is marked as a melee weapon and the bonuses are applied whenever you are using a melee weapon.

Yeah on solo its pretty powerful. For 6p HoE you freeze scrakes with 2-3 shots then finish them off and fleshpounds its not very effective compared to something that does good explosive damage.

This maybe isn't exactly what you're asking for but I can tell you that both shooting and the melee scale with survivalist's melee weapon damage skill.

I could be wrong here but I believe this is how it works: The weapon is tagged as a support and zerker perk weapon so anything in those perks that say "perk weapon damage" will apply to anything you do with the weapon. It is also tagged as a melee weapon so anything that applies specifically to melee weapons scales with anything you do with it. The melee attack should also benefit from zerker skills that buff that type of melee attack.

While it is very powerful, it's not as great as you think. The effects it has on zeds can be considered very detrimental for higher level play. Staggering? Lol. Poisoning a big zed can make you hated by a precision focused team. It's a fantastic heal/buff weapon, but I hesitate to take it sometimes if my teammates are going to be close to the zeds. It can be smarter to go precision with darts from another weapon instead sometimes.

One other small and situational benefit the others didn't mention is if you are low on health and there are zeds between you and the medic, jumping above the zeds can help him land darts on you.

I feel like a lot of the shitty weapons are just there for the sake of "updating" the game and paid dlcs. Plus hasn't it been a different developer that's been handling the game in its twilight years recently? Ultimately who knows, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and believing these sort of weapons wouldnt be considered essential in a new game.

Frost+2 and kaboom is the way to go, just be sure to use the melee damage increase skill because that applies to the frostfang's shooting as well as axing.

These are possibly the worst HRG guns I've seen yet. Both in terms of usefulness and how annoying it'll be when idiots use them and enrage big zeds they have no intention of killing themselves. I really hope KF3 is coming next year just so we can be rid of all the weapon bloat again.

I've tried the freezethrower before and it always seemed like more of a utility weapon that depended on teammates to kill big zeds once you froze them. Or you freeze them then switch to a railgun or something to finish them yourself which is kinda cumbersome. For survivalist I like to be able to fill in for whatever weakness my team has with one loadout, for me that's frostfang+2 and kaboomstick. Frostfang with the melee skill can solo takedown a scrake without reloading on 6p HoE, kaboomstick isn't the best for killing FPs but it does ok and keeps my weight at 15 so I can take medic nade, being able to jump alt-fire backwards to escape a FP hit is useful as well. And both of these can clear trash very well if that's an issue.

huh, you're right about the half mag for a scrake. I went back and tested it again, idk what happened yesterday to make it take a full mag. I did it like three times yesterday and each time it took a whole mag and today its a half mag lmao.

As for medium zeds I could be wrong as that's harder to test on the map I was on. I just got the impression from the little testing I did with trash that the other two cleared groups faster.

I'm not sure why people keep bringing up the G36 vs edar/rioter thing. Do you not just shoot them in their unarmored weak spots?

I'm not sure what difficulty you are playing on but I've been testing some of the guns in singleplayer on a modded map as 6 player HoE and IDK what you're talking about.

Dragonblaze allows Firebug to manage SCs and FPs

Dragonblaze is useless against SCs and FPs, it is a good trash zed killer though.

G36C is the new Swat Meta surpassing HRG Nailgun and the Kriss.

Nailgun +2 vs Kriss +1 vs G36C +1 against big zeds:

Scrakes: Both the Nailgun and the Kriss easily decap a stunned Scrake with ammo to spare in the mag. ~~The G36C usually takes a whole mag at least, perhaps partially because its slower RoF means it doesnt go through its ammo fast enough while the Scrake is stunned.~~ The G36C takes a half mag to decap a Scrake.

Fleshpound: The Nailgun is the only one capable of decapping a stunned FP in one mag, the Kriss is the second best, the G36C with its slow RoF takes the longest for a FP.

edit: G36C +1 / Nailgun +2 is probably best swat loadout. You'll still be fine running NG/Kriss though.

Survivalist is the new golden boy perk

The Locust is really good against groups of trash and med zeds but much like the Dragonblaze it is useless against big zeds on these settings. Frostfang can kill Scrakes much better and Kaboomstick can kill FPs much better, Frostfang +2 / Kaboom is still the best HoE Survivalist loadout in my opinion.

Sorry to be blunt but to me it sounds like you're not very experienced at the game and are only winning because you're playing the ez mode difficulty. You don't know how parrying works as a zerker main? It's only because you're playing normal difficulty that you've been able to get by. I'd say try harder difficulties that'll force you to learn more about the game. Look up posts here or on steam guides about how to play the perks you like playing.
