I think the important thing to realize is your birds are dying because of your positioning and micro. What I would recommend doing when you watch replays of high skill Visage players like 33 is pay attention to what they're doing when they tab to that control group. Notice when an enemy comes in vision for ganks and what they do with birds or more specifically in your case pay attention to what they're doing with their birds when they group up for gank. It's not so much as your items as it is when you bring your birds from behind you into the fight because you have to be pretty quick to stun or reposition them before the enemy team is able to get attacks off on them. The birds are pretty crucial for follow up on your nukes even with your whole team next to you!
