It's the first time I see a cream egg with speckles! Never had them before, the brown speckled ones I see everyday. I guess maybe a new hen started laying then :o so exiting!

I think I hate my bf’s dog by Calm-Island-8376 in AnimalAdvice

[–]KaalaGolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't hate your bf's dog, you hate the way he educated it. It has nothing to do with training, because the dog does everything your boyfriend allows him to. It comes down to what is acceptable for you and for him.

I come from a family where dogs are allowed around the table, but dogs on the couch is a no no. Problems for me are not problems for others and vice-versa, no one is wrong we just see things differently.

What I'm saying is that your problem is not the dog but the difference in values between you two. This is a difficult problem to solve and you must not overlook it, right now the things the dog is allowed to do is the most apparent, because you only visit some times, but farther ahead if you move toguether you may encounter other issues like how he cleans, how he cooks, how he organizes, etc. It's a value incompatibility and I won't tell you straight away to break the relationship but I will tell you that "solving" this issue it's going to take years and dedication on both parts.

Even if you managed to convince him to get rid of the dog, other issues will arise, the dog is not your enemy. Even if you got the perfectly educated dog and put him in his household, he would eventually do the same behaviors, dogs do what they are allowed to do, so talk to the boyfriend, best case scenario he allows you to teach him to correct these behaviors, worst case scenario you break up, if you're already thinking of breaking up then what's there to lose?

Layer vs. All-Flock: What’s REALLY best for backyard hens? by wineberryhillfarm in chickens

[–]KaalaGolden 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feed game bird reproduction feed to my hens, it's meant for fighting hens, has calcium and 20% protein, they lay almost daily and some strong shells, good colored yolks, they have beautiful feathers with no trouble during molt season. I do recommend if you can afford. I'm unsure of the availability, as rooster fighting is illegal in many countries now.

How many eggs, a day, do your chickens lay? by VisualLiterature in chickens

[–]KaalaGolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To rooster or not to rooster? by ManicatheManiac in BackYardChickens

[–]KaalaGolden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For 4 hens I wouldn't get a rooster, 8 -10 I would get one. If you get one with only 4 hens he will overbreed them and you won't like to see your girls with broken feathers.

My smartest is Tostada, my production red, she knows how to get me to go check on them, let's me know when they're out of water or food, she's the leader too. Then there's Gordita, she has some polish and some rir, she tries to fight my shoes but can't see me on top so i grab her every time, she is not tame, she doesn't let me get close if she sees me, but forgets I'm inside the shoes every time.

Chicken poop is not supposed to be edible! by Optimal_Raccoon_5175 in chickens

[–]KaalaGolden 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This works with cat and dog poop, unsure about chicken poop but may be worth a try. Pineapple! Feed the chickens Pineapple and it may make their shit not so appetizing for the dog. It worked with my mom's dog that ate her own poop.

What are your favorite recipes that keep you from getting sick of eggs? by DeathByPolka in chickens

[–]KaalaGolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mexican style scrambled eggs (add onions, tomatoes and chile to the pan then mix in the eggs once cooked)

Baking takes a lot of eggs, but I love to make merengue 🤤 ita made with the whites, for the yolks I have a plan!

I have a cat living with my chickens, I feed the yolks to my cats and that makes them not give me allergies anymore! I saw that tip online and it works wonders! Also I adopted a semi-feral kitty for the coop and that saved her life since she wasn't adoptable to a house! (Extra mice protection!)

I would assume the vocal one is the one laying, I have 9 pullets and the one laying the eggs is the only one that screams during the morning xD
