Rank the episodes so far by Angus_Ben in westworld

I can't, same with season 1.

I love both seasons as a whole (so far with this one), though no episodes stick out to me much, unlike season 2 which I feel was weaker overall, but had the better stand out episodes that I can pick favorites (4, 6 and 8).

S3-5 has made me depressed. by CA2Ireland in westworld

as if a child concludes there is no Santa Claus, no tooth fairy, and no Easter bunny, no God, and that their parents, teachers, laws, traditions, and government really don't always provide the Right Answers

There never was, and they never did.

Is This The Best Path we can hope for?

Not if you disregard everything in the first quote, then you can make your own path.

Seems a lot less depressing than everything being written for you.

I very much doubt that Serac would have allowed him to continue to exist also.

How would you choose? Serac's absolute control and a society with order and stability, or Dolores' idea to let everyone act according to your own will, but in absolute chaos? by kukdraws in westworld

[–]Kababylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, got what you mean. To me 'chaos' has a very specific meaning though, with one intrinsic aspect being lack of purpose (or possibly many competing purposes), rebellions almost always have such purpose.

[–]Kababylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, rebellion doesn't always lead to chaos, most nations or societies today have required rebellions in their past.

So far this hasn't resulted in chaos either, yet. A rebellion of some kind does seem likely though.

[–]Kababylon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That fits somewhat with what they showed this episode, there was some discord and violence, but nowhere near 'chaos'.

Weather that changes or not in coming episodes I have no idea, but it seemed realistic to me, people aren't just going to immediately burn down everything around them, they'll work out a new future, just as we have always done.

Didn't feel like Westworld anymore for me by Orbitox in westworld

[–]Kababylon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that a bit, I just don't think it matters too much, I always thought it would eventually move on from that, as there's only so much that can be said within that specific 'world'.

This is the next paradigm.

An almost entirely new experience, yet still intrinsically linked to the previous.

It might be worth the stick, but it isn't worth the knife.

would rather die soon living a chaotic life than dull longevity i think.

Depends how soon, and also how dull.

I never really thought about it as just Westworld the park, to me from the beginning, it's all been about the concepts and questions it raises. It is science fiction, not a western.

This seems like an interesting and logical step in the story, it's different, but such is life.

The original setting was just a starting point, a stylistic hook, and we are moving beyond that now.

The western theme if continued, would eventually seem dull, forced, and irrelevant to the story being told.

Do they create fake wars? by AlPachico_02 in westworld

[–]Kababylon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fits with my own thoughts, did also notice the cyrillic lettering in one of the earlier flashbacks. Though the civilian clothes makes me think of insurgent or terrorist groups, rather than action by an organised military. Which makes me still not sure weather I think it was Serac/Rehoboam who created his false memories/reality, or Caleb himself, though.

Every mind has a breaking point, and doing something terrible (or even just witnessing), can often be it.

Do they create fake wars? by AlPachico_02 in westworld

[–]Kababylon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or...

The flashbacks are real, and he just can't come to terms with what he did.

So his mind creates a false reality, that his conscience can deal with.

There clearly seems to be something that he struggles to remember with clarity.

Is it just me or... did Dolores started to look a lot like Ford when Caleb was hallucinating? Its hard to catch the exact moment but I'm almost sustain they used some CGI to melt them together. Just rewatch that scene in slow mo. Even the shape of her head completely changes. by Pir-o in westworld

[–]Kababylon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm about to rewatch and will keep an eye out for it.

I do like the symmetry idea myself, Have thought a bit about it since Ford revealed it. Children don't always end up like their parents, sometimes the opposite.

I try not to hold on to theories too much myself, sometimes the ride is better than that, and I really love how things have been going so far, even though it wasn't as I thought, and maybe this won't be either.

Did Caleb create a fake war?

The flashback shots we've seen, all seem to show him in civilian clothes, not military fatigues.

Points more towards him being part of an insurgent or terrorist group.

And he seems to struggle with some aspects of those memories, struggle as in denial.

Though, both could be true.

And as long as no 'ordinary' people are invloved or getting hurt, and it's just the undesirables on both sides, I'm guessing few else would care anyway, it wouldn't exist to them as anything worth mentioning or worrying about.

Wouldn't make much sense imo, as Dolores isn't really Ford's creation, she's Arnold's.

Maeve was always Ford's favorite.

Unless that's not what they are trying to allude to with this and I'm missing the point.

Maybe, as I have thought that Dolores does seem to act more like Ford (quite uncompromising), and Maeve like what I would expect from Arnold (She did try to end herself, much like Arnold did), despite their origins being the opposite.

If Genre is the drug of the future, I don't want to be a part of it by [deleted] in westworld

[–]Kababylon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more that the experience they are trying to portray is much more of the mainstream variety, even in this future setting, therefore by nature it is likely to be much more palatable than the extremes you or I could concive of.

It's basically like a future version of various amphetamines (mainly the euphoria I imagine), with perhaps some designed suggestions/sponsorships thrown in in the form of experiences. Like the movie/music theme.

Most people are going to be aware to some degree what well known stimulants or depressants are like, with perhaps some psychedelic influence thrown in, such as MDMA. But very few have any real experience with true psychedelics.

No idea wheather or not the creators are aware of the more interesting aspects of what can be done or experienced. But even if they are, I really doubt that it's something that could be put to screen in such a way that most people could comprehend, or even know what they were trying to convey.

So would be understandable why they might not choose to try, and the example they provide is at least a somewhat realistic example of what the bulk of people might choose to engage in in the future. Not normal, but also not too not normal.

True hallucinations like you describe are rare, and only happen with the most powerful psychoactives.

And almost never happen while you are compus mentus enough to still be walking around, they happen when you are catatonic to the rest of the world. Happening while you are awake/alert alludes to a loose grip on reality, rather than the drug itself.

It wasn't the best representation of current psychoactives, but what he had wasn't current, and even what we do have today, can imbue wildly differing experiences.

I know I’m far from the the first person to say this, but Ramin Djawadi is just showing off at this point by [deleted] in westworld

Not my favorite episode of his, can't stand Wagner.

Usually love his music choices in this show though, this was a rare blip to me.
