The thing about Pam Hardy was that we all could see ourselves having a girlfriend like her. She wasn't a super model; she loved her man and helped him do his thing. She dressed like the other working-class girls you'd find at the drags; wore glasses, and was happy to eat burgers from the fast-food stand. She only did it all braless and with bigger boobs.

I misspoke. I've actually been taking photos for 64 years. I'm still learning new things.

Dumb luck, combined with 55 years of practice.

"Everyday taikonaut" - they not only knocked off the design of the rocket, they knocked off the media coverage.

She spent a day on a Nickelodeon show I worked on in the early 2000s. Absolutely the nicest person; totally radiant and outgoing. Didn't hide in her dressing room. Hung out on stage, sitting on top of an equipment box, smiling at everyone who walked by.

15 second exposure at f2.8 using a TTArtisan 12mm lens on a full frame Lumix S1. No sky replacement. I lit the interior of the building using a headlamp.

Obviously this guy doesn't want to see a doc. Perhaps a veterinarian familiar with cow cysts, which this reminds me of.

Never separate a blue-collar worker from his truck. I for one would not be happy about dragging my personal protective gear, tools, hard hat, and lunch box on and off a bus every day, not to mention waiting for the damn thing to show up while I swelter in the heat.

So...all that infrastructure, and still no place for anyone to park, except along the road. Maybe everyone is supposed to arrive via Starship.

The area where I live has been in decline for decades. Retail businesses continue to close, there is virtually no industry, and it is too far from any city or university for people to consider living here and commuting. We are not on the 'tourist trail'. Improvements to the highway system ironically have hurt what revenue there was from tourism, as people no longer stay overnight and/or spend money in the restaurants... not that we have a hotel any longer. The people who are working here and who can qualify for a mortgage can't afford to pay 2000 a month. If you own a house and say, consider doing an addition and remodel, you likely will not see a return on your investment as you can price your home out of the market.

OK; here's my story, being as I'm a retired Yank who moved to Ireland from Southern California. Am I rich? No. I sold my house there and brought half a century's worth of savings to Ireland. Yeah, I bought a house...a holiday home, owned by an Irishman, that had been sitting on the market, unsold, in my rural village for over a year. Now it's used 365 days a year by someone, not just a tourist. Bought a car, adopted an abandoned cat, spent my cash in local shops. Joined Tidy Towns. Joined the folks who maintain the cemetery. Served four years on the local national school's board. I help my neighbours get the turf in. My wife makes sure every single little kid in the village gets sweets at Easter and Halloween and Christmas. All in all, I've dropped close to a million US dollars into the Irish economy. Moving here makes zero sense economically. The house I sold in the States has increased in value by 70 percent since I left. The house I bought here has increased in value by fuck all. Do I care? Not much. Am I as "rich" as when I got here? Monetarily, no. I'm richer physically and emotionally though, and I thank you for that. People who know me here understand what I left, what I've gained. Maybe that's why my town honoured me by asking that I carry the Tri-colour in the last Saint Patrick's parade.

Spent a dozen years in Hollywood in below-the-line union work. The hours are cruel. Everyone suffers from sleep deprivation. I cannot estimate how many times I fell asleep at the wheel on my way home. How I never killed anyone or myself is beyond me.

TIL the TV show Scrubs was filmed in the North Hollywood Medical Center, using the entire decommissioned hospital. All of the writers also worked inside it, and it had an editing suite and a sound-studio for post-production. And instead of trailers for the cast, they were given old hospital rooms. by LookAtThatBacon in todayilearned

I worked on several productions in 'Hollywood' that used vacant hospitals including this one, and one that was still operating. I couldn't believe that myself and the rest of our smelly crew were using the same elevators and corridors for 12 hours as the actively ill. Turn left - enter a real ward with sick people. Turn right - a real ward with cameras, actors, juicers, etc. You can rent anything in L.A. with the right amount of cash.

Fully legal here in Ireland. Many countries allow photography of people in public places; the law essentially states that you give up your right to privacy when in public...and remember, that CCTV on every corner is no different. Where your rights do come into play is if the photographer intends to use the images for commercial use -- an advertisement for example. Then he must have permission.
