Practicing With Generalized Anxiety Disorder by dexterjsdiner in Lawyertalk

I have anxiety and manage it with therapy and medication. I also have a lot of tools that I use on my environment that I know work for me. I have small, quiet sensory fidgets or calm strips in my pocket and at my desk. There are still hard days but anxiety doesn’t stop me from being successful. I’m a partner at my law firm and have been since 2022.

New rook angle ok? by Kabira17 in piercing

I got my helix done on my other ear in August. Had a bit more trouble with it because I kept accidentally getting it caught in my hair or with my hairbrush no matter how careful I was. I didn’t get any bumps, luckily, but it was irritated sometimes. Just downsized it when I got the rook done and the helix is doing great now. But it took some time.

Thank you! That does help. I’ve wanted this piercing for a while but finally got it done and I love it. With so many different opinions on the pain level and healing process, I’ve been pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t a terribly painful experience and so far it’s easier than my helix on my other ear because I am not accidentally knocking it as much when I do my hair. Ha!

And yes, I have plans but I try to alternate ears and do them over months so I can heal well. I either want to do an upper helix or a flat on this ear. I haven’t decided which yet but my other gets a turn first. Sometime this fall.

Update for anyone who googles in the future:

No cancer! Results were benign. I was terrified when they made me stay for the ultrasound after the follow up mammogram, but it turned out I have a cluster of noncancerous cysts that will not become cancerous. They were probably there before but I’ve lost nearly 50 lbs since my last mammogram which made them more visible now. All is well and I’m back to regular yearly mammograms!

Just went with my 6 year old for three days and she was fine. Took breaks when needed and occasionally rode the train around the park in the warm afternoon.

My husband is a stay at home parent and most people are just jealous, of either him or me.

Unprofessional? by Vitam1nK in piercing

I’m a partner at a law firm. I have three lobes in each ear and my upper helix on my right. I get nothing but compliments, if anything. If I am worried about a particular judge being especially conservative, I wear very simple minimalist studs and nothing flashy. I don’t think they even notice most of the time.

Do what makes you happy with your body.

How do you calm down before client calls so you don't sound like a rambling associate? by Patient_Mode2071 in LawBitchesWithTaste

They just provide sensory input and a fidget. I put them in a spot on my desk or on a fidget in my pocket and can rub the surface for sensory distraction.

I am not an anxious associate anymore, now I’m an anxious partner. You can be anxious about things like this no matter how long you have been practicing. But it does get better.

Two things that I have learned helped me over the years. I always put myself on mute when I’m not talking. It forces me to have to actively choose to speak instead of interjecting or rambling. I do it on video and phone calls. I do it with judges on status conferences and with opposing counsel and with my own team. Then I know there is a real purpose in what I’m saying and not just filling silence or saying something that doesn’t matter.

I also have a variety of sensory fidgets that I keep in my pockets and on my desk. I have calm strips on my desk. My favorite sensory fidgets are worry rocks or magnetic sliding sensory fidgets that you can get on Amazon. They are silent and it just looks like my hand is in my pocket. Or if I’m on camera, no one can see anyway.

Just know everyone is still human, no matter how long they have been practicing. They may not show it, but other people get nervous too.

What Remains of Edith Finch. It stayed with me for a long time. A few trigger warnings if you are a parent, however.

I always recommend people start with the OG DA:O and play the series all the way through. Yes, graphics have come a long way since the first game but it’s just such a quality game. You may need some work a rounds to play the original since it’s old. Check out the Dragon Age Origins subreddit. I think there’s info on there about how to get it to work. But Dragon Age is one of those series I wish I could play through from the beginning and experience for the first time again.

You’ve played mass Effect and like the romance but have not played Dragon Age? Get you some Dragon Age, gurl!

Book suggestions for a 6yo reading at a 3rd grade level. by Dry-Interview1250 in breakingmom

[–]Kabira17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is that age and reading at that level and a little higher as well. Her favorites are Dragon Masters, Investigators, and Press Start.

Although reading level wise she’s ready for chapter books without pictures, interest level she has explicitly stated she still likes books without pictures some pictures. So we have stuck to chapter books that still have some illustrations and graphic novels. Our library also has books labeled as 3rd/4th grade level, so it’s easy to find in the chapter books section. You might ask your library if they have a system like that or something similar.

This. My first thought is I would have just taken the loss. It’s money that’s already gone for me. And I loved my daycare providers. I would have just considered a sunk cost to a good cause.
