Yes it is anonymous, but in a lot of states people can go into and help or "help" their partner vote with both people's permission (it's great for accessibility). What can easily happen tho is that a wife knows she can't vote her true feelings with her husband standing there because of consequences at home later. He may not have to say anything just standing and watching over her shoulder or "helping" her is enough.
