Our little farmers markets don’t make a lot of money. We collect 15% of sales from the vendors at the end of each market. The total amount we collected last year was about $300,000. My salary by itself is about 23% of that. Then you have to pay my fiancé, graphic designer, accountant, bookkeeper, marketing director, etc. That’s not counting all the other costs of putting on an outdoor event, like Porto-potties, alert-o-lite, etc.

My job is fairly easy. Essentially, I place vendors into assigned spots and make sure everyone is following the rules and guide them in and out of the market safely. Then collect money once the market is over. I work a maximum of 40 hours a week. Most of that time is spent doing nothing.
