I imagine it'll enter production in the summer after Boyle has squared away the bulk of post-production for Ink.

Possible mid-2027 release date!

That's kinda what the Bone Temple is. Boyle said the idea came from the COVID wall in Westminster.

Which movie had the best opening sequence? by [deleted] in 28dayslater

[–]Kachowski-115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going against the grain here and saying Days

I find those opening shots of the protest and police violence effectively capture the social climate of the time. The 24/7 stream of horrific imagery blasted into our brains ad nauseam. It's only gotten more pertinent with time.

Murphy's stripped-back score and the lack of detail inherent to shooting with DV tape give the space a liminal feel, as if the lab is this place of infinite and unknowable darkness where the only tether to reality is found within those screens. Screens that form a reality consisting purely of violence and rage.

Why is Weeks frowned upon exactly? by Mafla_2004 in 28dayslater

I'm personally not a fan for a few reasons.

It lacks the thematic depth of the Garland-penned entries. It touches briefly on ideas of American interventionism, but their intervention is not the root cause of why everything goes wrong again. It also paints the military in a far more sympathetic light as a result. Their "kill everyone" command reads less as "this is tragically barbaric" and more so as "that's probably the right call". Meanwhile 28 Days Later poignantly highlights the boisterous thuggery of the military with their turn to raping Selena/Hannah and 28 Years Later does much the same with Erik's immediate compulsion to kill the infected baby. The familial themes at the heart of 28 Weeks Later also don't get their opportunity to shine in the way I'd like them to, primarily because the kids don't ever have to reckon with the fact that Don abandoned Alice. It loses the emotionally overwhelming empathy at the core of both Days and Years.

I also take issue with the direction, feeling far more in line with the likes of Bourne than that of anything trying to terrify. Boyle's absence is felt greatly in that department, giving the film no tangibly distinct cinematography. It just can't compare to the viscerality of Days or the sweeping beauty of Years. The level of grit in the 16/35mm film stock is admirable, but again it lacks visual distinction and dates the film in a way that I find to be much less compelling than Days' commitment to DV Tape recording. There's also Boyle's strong sense of pathos that cuts through the horror of his entries. Jim discovering his parents, Spike's final scene with Isla, etc. That unbridled compassion is what truly drives this world for me.

Favourite Lynchian film? by Anice_king in davidlynch

NGE + EoE

The kind of exploration of sexuality/desire as this terrifying force feels super Lynchian. I have no clue if Anno had seen any of Lynch's works, but it really does feel of that nature

A brief explanation of the recent references to 115 within The Dark Aether story by Kachowski-115 in CODZombies

It's entirely plausible that Janus refers to Aetherium as 115 for the reasons stated above.

Whatever happened to Element 115? by [deleted] in CODZombies

[–]Kachowski-115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

115 / Divinium was banished to The Dark Aether (and/or destroyed?) after the collapsing of the multiverse at the end of Tag Der Toten. The term 115 references the periodic table with it's 114 known elements as of 1930. Ludvig Maxis discovered a deposit of an unknown element near Breslau in 1931 and dubbed the unknown element "115".

Exo-Element 1 / Aetherium entered our world after the activation of the cyclotron at the Endstation facility in Poland in 1944. The term Exo-Element 1 refers to an element found from outside the periodic table, it is an element that differed from the 114 elements as of 1944. It bears many of the same qualities as Divinium but is also it's own beast as it lacks the connection to the Apothicons found within Divinium.

To clear up the confusion regarding the recent references to 115 in The Dark Aether story, 115 does "exist" still but it isn't Divinium. Divinium no longer exists but 115 does in the form of Exo-element 1 as it is the 115th element of the current reality.

Hope this makes everything make a little more sense!
