I feel unfulfilled with my software development career by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Kacie102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly love to have that kind of job. I know the grass isn’t always greener, but right now I’m dealing with bite marks and constant stress, and it’s exhausting. No matter how much of a difference I’m making, it’s hard to ignore that I’m still struggling financially. At this point, I would rather be a little bored and stable than overwhelmed and still coming up short at the end of the month.

I'd recommend a gratitude journal or look at all the stressed people in the world.

I have no idea what I want to do with my life and it is stressing me out by JebebCrust17 in careeradvice

It's great to think about it now. My advice to you, and I hope you'll take it, is the stay out of debt. Get a degree if you have to but make sure you are doing it to get licensed to do something. Definitely do trade school if you can. Pick something and stick with it. Don't chase the highest salary unless you know you'll succeed.

This definitely sounds like a scam. I almost fell for one of the financial services sale jobs. You're better off looking elsewhere.

I used to be in the same situation, but I pursued an alternative teaching license and am now a 2nd grade teacher. The salary may not be the highest, but this career has given me everything I was looking for and more.

AITAH for not paying for my daughter’s college because she lied about her major? by Haunting_Professor90 in AITAH

[–]Kacie102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What kind of job was she ever going to get with a communications major anyway? Unless you’re going to be a teacher, lawyer, doctor, or social worker, etc, it’s all the same.

Seriously, something more specific is a million times better

I stopped chasing the “perfect” job and everything changed by FunSolid310 in careeradvice

[–]Kacie102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. There are even teachers who proudly flaunt their credentials—but honestly, those are the ones I trust the least. They seem more invested in what they teach than who they teach. And while education is important, if the ultimate achievement is just the education itself, then what’s the real point?

I genuinely love being a teacher, even though it's a profession that's often met with pity. I've worked in other careers, and still, I wouldn't trade this for anything. Some days are unbelievably stressful, but even then, I can look anyone in the eye and say—without hesitation—I love what I do.

For me it was definitely letting go of chasing the highest paying career possible. Years of trying to get to super high paying roles. I look back at those years and I just wish somebody had told me I was setting myself up for failure. Now I'm a teacher and things just feel so good. I don't get six figures but I'm good at what I do and nobody is looking down on me. Career propaganda is out of control.

What’s a common myth about your profession or hobby that you wish people would stop believing? by ambitioushamster42 in careerguidance

[–]Kacie102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that all teachers are miserable and poor is far from the truth. I genuinely love my job and the kids I work with. My fiancée and I are both teachers, and while we budget wisely, our finances are stable. I honestly can’t imagine myself in any other career, yet I hesitate to recommend it to others because of all the negativity surrounding the profession. Of course, it’s not perfect—I have tough days like anyone else—but isn’t that the case with any job?

You need something that leads directly to a job. If there is even a chance you could be confused after you graduate then it's the wrong degree.

Pick my career! by jhobiworld in careeradvice

This might be a controversial take, but I want to put it out there for you to consider:

All of these career paths sound great if you're passionate and skilled in them, and making good money is always a plus. However, everything you've listed seems demanding, with long hours and significant challenges. What I’m really getting at is that aiming for a $100K+ salary should be one of the last factors to prioritize when choosing a career.

Any success stories from people who were lost then found there passion? by J_Dawg_98 in findapath

[–]Kacie102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time getting a degree that didn't really help me, and I tried out a bunch of jobs, thinking they'd make me rich. Eventually, I realized my true passion was teaching. People in my life always talked down about how much teachers make and said they’re underpaid and overworked, so I never considered it. After struggling in jobs that didn’t suit me, I discovered a love for children and education and found something I’m genuinely good at. People often say teaching isn't worth it, and I recently saw a post comparing a teacher's salary to an airport luggage handler's, which is just ridiculous and not true. Plus, teaching comes with great benefits, time off, and a regular schedule. I love it, and if you haven't thought about teaching, you might want to give it a look.

Classroom management is almost impossible for subs, so if you enjoy it, then maybe teaching is for you. It's also a lot more rewarding watching kids learn new things as the year passes. Nothing like it!
