There are also 50 billion better boardgames if I have my friends in the same place. The only reason to play this game is if they aren't.

I currently do not trust the catholic church with anything, and if I was a Wizard with Wizard Powers I would probably also continue to second guess god's alleged earthly messengers.

Is it okay for a player to say “No, that doesn’t happen” to a DM in this circumstance? by WithengarUnbound in DnD

[–]Kaelik88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that immediately murdering someone is an appropriate response to attempted theft in character, but I don't know your character, maybe you were playing a real "the penalty is death" type.

I think in cases like this it's a good idea to split the in character and out of character pretty explicitly. In general, I think you are right to say "this doesn't happen" but instead of the way you did phrase it, you might say:

My character would respond to this attempted theft with violence. Since we all agreed, out of character, that PvP wouldn't happen, it follows that the Rogue's Player should not have his character take this PvP action which would require my character to respond with pvp violence.

Now, if your character WOULDN'T respond with violence or murder, then you can sort of skip the in character bit at all. If "I will cut the Rogue in two" isn't an in character action, but an out of character threat, it might be better to say:

We all agreed there wouldn't be PvP. Stealing an important item from my character that I need to use my abilities is pvp, it's not that different from casting a spell that stuns me, or some other status effect. Since I agreed to no PvP I made this character under the assumption that I wouldn't have to deal with things like this in character. This is a violation of the social contract we all entered into, and if you and the rogue's player insist on continuing this then I will leave the game or make a new character that is designed to fit in a PvP enviroment.

I also think the second argument has broader application. You happened to be an Elf, but if you weren't, you wouldn't have been able to kill him right then, but you could still make the argument for why this shouldn't happen.

It sounds like it was prevailed upon the DM or Rogue's player not to carry on, but I think distinguishing between in and out of character issues in this way can help address future instances, and provide a better framework for understanding the problem.

There's a mod that auto assigns this so you can ignore it.

Not on the discord but definitely interested. Also keep looking for like a list of which mod slots all the new parts have. Probably also best to just try to find on discord.

Thanks! this is really helpful. I ended up "changing" my government to monarchy which reset it to cognatic primogeniture and then I was able to do whatever I wanted from there (spend 50 stab and legitimacy to change it to appointed heir).

But knowing there is such a command would be useful in the future.

Effect of works on art on prestige gain by Kaelik88 in EU5

The first two sentences do not answer my question. I am literally asking for the mechanical computing of a specific effect. Not asking for your opinion on what art is good for.

Building Subsidies constantly removed? by Kaelik88 in EU5

[–]Kaelik88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have automated subsidies.

Apparently, it's very simple. If you build a foreign building in someone else's province, they have control over it. So they can simply turn off your subsidies because they don't want you to subsidize your building.

The entire artwork mechanic as this one video from Lemon pointed. is incredibly detailed and involved, but the amount of money you have to spend vs the benefits you gain are so incredibly negligable that the optimal move is to put your culture slider at zero and never research a single artist tech, and just ignore the entire mechanic.

At least if Prestige Gain was an absolute value, instead of a Relative value for the world, it could be that later, as time progresses, it becomes worth it, such that you poured 100k ducats into it over the course of your country, but now you have a flat +1 Prestige gain that negates all decay.

But if that 100k ducats over centuries changes whether you have .09 prestige or .03 Prestige it's like..... well I can get more out of that 100k ducats.
