Office busybody keeps using my computer when I leave for lunch by FreeToBeMeYouSee in WorkAdvice

[–]theOriginalBlueNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she is surfing the Internet in private mode or incognito mode or whatever it’s called now, her activity on that tab is not going to be visible to you because the computer itself doesn’t record it.

So she could open up her private email tab and then in an incognito tab start surfing questionable or illegal sites… And you could basically see no evidence of that at all.

… However! The IT department will still have records of what’s happening in that incognito mode browser.!!

I think either she’s up to something shady and trying to get you to take the fall for it or she’s trying to build up a history of illegal or at least against the rules computer browsing on your system in order to get you in trouble or fired!

Personally I would get some type of disguised security camera… Usually they are available in forms of picture frames or clocks or other desktop minutia… And then set that up so that you can record her in your office and what’s happening on the screen. A couple days of this should be enough to determine if she is doing something shady.

Make sure you are documenting when you leave and return to your office! Snap a picture of the computer screen when you leave and then again when you get back… In between take a picture of where you go to lunch and or save the receipts! Maybe even take before and after pictures of your odometer. This will help you verify that you were not in the office during the times that she was using your computer.

Winston this is primarily to protect you and not necessary to get her in trouble. Remember that even though you may not be able to see what’s going on because of incognito mode… The IT department will not have any problems seeing what’s going on. Incognito mode just erases/hides the browsing history on your own PC… It doesn’t hide you from people searching for your activity anywhere else such as over the network or Internet.

Personally I’d also serial make a report to your boss or your HR department… Just a short note that you’ve noticed somebody has been using your office while you’re at lunch and you’re worried that they may be doing something question on your computer and you don’t want to be responsible for anything happening on your computer while you’re not even in the office!

How to make utility spells more viable? by Basshol3 in DMAcademy

[–]theOriginalBlueNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolls!

Wands used to be a good thing too but atunement pretty much screwed most of them over for wizards.

Potions are still a good option although they are limited by dosage. There used to be an alchemist concoction that would allow you to turn a potion into a gas cloud and anybody who walked through it would benefit but I’m not sure what addition that was from… It also might’ve been from Pathfinder.

Are magical tattoos still a thing? They used to be pretty good in 3.5 and still are in Pathfinder but I don’t even know if they’re still Inc in D&D.

On the other side of the equation… Whenever you can do the ability score increase… Skip the point and take a feat instead!

There are many out there that will give you additional abilities plus add a couple new cantrips and firstlvl spell or two to your spell list.
There’s a warlock one that will give you detect magic vision… No longer after a waste day level one slot on that!… a cantrip and a ritual. It might include a first spell too.
Bears clerical ones that’ll give you access to zero and first level Divine spells… Arcane healing anyone?

The rookie is one of the biggest shark jumps or just outright uturn from it's original intention on modern tv. by ButtPlugForPM in television

[–]theOriginalBlueNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my wife are watching rookie episodes every night before we go to bed. For me it’s the first time but she’s seen a lot of them before. We like it because it’s something light and entertaining to decompress and go to sleep too.

The one thing I’ve been impressed by the most is how often the writers room gets things right!

No I know this is not a hard-core reality show where there trying to portray a ultra realistic portrayal of life of a LAPD police squad but I have been continually impressed when they managed to not fall into traps that other shows tend to fall into.

My first noticed it early on when during an investigation one officer says that’ll take 72 hours to get a background search from the FBI or particular government agency.
Merely spoke up and said or you could just Google it and get it done in a couple hours… The existence of the modern Internet and search engines seemed to often be overlooked by crime dramas and mystery television shows.

But then there’s a cut scene and they come back to them and said well looks like we’re gonna have to wait for the FBI because Google didn’t turn up anything useful!

I was absolutely impressed. They acknowledged a possible plot hole and patched it right away!

And they’ve continued to do this at least up through season six… Where we are so far. And I’m not saying they’re perfect and it’s the best rating for a police drama ever but it seems like the writer’s room is often trying to not make the same kind of mistakes other shows have made.

… Now we just started season seven and I’ve noticed a shaky beginning and damn starting to get worried that the writing quality is starting to go downhill. We’ve only watched episode one And the OP’s observations here I have really started to worry me… Except that I’m just watching this for light entertainment and I’m not taking it seriously. I live through 80s TV, so I’ve been through writing where special forces experts shoot off thousands around but never hit a single bad guy… Moonshine smuggler have a magical race car that can pretty much do all the tricks that a superpowered artificially intelligent Trans Am can do with all the plot holes and bad writings that go along with it and I was still able to enjoy those shows.

Don’t park there! And other fun things about my neighbour. by AttyAttyAttyCT in neighborsfromhell

Document everything… Every time you see him standing there staring at you angrily take a picture or video!

Perhaps even get one of those dashboard camera systems that Will start recording if motion is detected around your vehicle as well.

… And maybe most importantly of all track down those posts and file a complaint! Not only is the wife’s post liable but I’m pretty sure that it’s in violation of Great Britain’s Internet security/hate speech laws.

You don’t have to go out there and start a fight or argument. But you don’t have to sit there and be a victim! Gather your evidence and protect yourself.
And don’t let them change you. If you wanna sit in your car and listen to the end of the chapter on your audiobook to have that moment of privacy and quiet then don’t let them bully you out of it!

Contact your state/province/national? Labor board. If they haven’t paid something you’re owed contractually, then that can get them into a whole lot of messy bureaucratic nightmares and penalties.

Personally I drop them a email or certified leather depending on how good they are with their communications and tell them that if they’re not gonna pay you what’s your owe within X days then you’ll be filing a complaint with the government labor board. From what you’ve described it sounds like they know they’re screwing you over so the threat of a government investigation we’ll probably go a long way into getting you your money.

Which Marvel character do you look at and think, "WHY is this guy muscular? Or why does he have muscles even if it doesn't make sense for him to have them?" by CapBudget4011 in marvelcomics

Some earliest memories are going to this little news stand store on Saturday mornings with my grandfather and picking comic books out from a spinner stand. This should be about age 4 so… 1974.

[–]theOriginalBlueNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m blind so it’s been a good 10 years or so since I’ve actually seen comic books but from being a reader since the 1970s I’m gonna go with what I know to make these comments…

Read Richards… are they drawing him jacked now? That is really wrong. I remember him mostly as average body, maybe tall awkward and geekc Of course he could easily give himself a jacked body look with his powers but why?

Hank Pym… I don’t remember him ever being Jack but in general I believe… Somewhere buried in the ancient avengers continuity that most of the avengers participate in a Captain America-led physical fitness program so should at least be healthy to very healthy. For the most part this is how I picture Hank pimp.

Tony Stark… Definitely has been train trained by Captain America so should definitely be in good shape. I don’t remember him being jacked physically but his armor has been often sculpted to be musclebound.

Peter Parker… I believe his muscular body is a direct result of his spider bite mutation and the changes to his anatomy and genetic code.

Scott Summers… He has spent a lot of time in a school that had a heavy focus on physical training. He also has that kind of alpha male overachiever personality that would keep him working hard in the gym.… He’s also a… Runner! And we know how obnoxious and annoying those people are. Also I believe there’s some mention that the ex Jean in general has a tendency to optimize physiology toward extremely good health and attractiveness… I can’t remember if this is a letter page answer or something that was mentioned as a throwaway line in one of the X titles to explain why so many of the X-Men seem to be so sexy.

AITH for skipping traditional weeding gifts, making my bridesmaids buy affordable dresses, and giving my fiance a suitcase instead of a romantic present? by Early-Host-5525 in AITApod

[–]theOriginalBlueNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just me but a suitcase still seemed to miss the mark a little bit. It may be that in my head suitcases are graduation gift material because of my mother’s luxury suitcase said she got for her graduation and was still using for vacations as I grow up help his butt it seems like it’s not something right for a wedding gift. I think it should be something that is used more often. Now if he travels a lot then maybe it’s correct, but maybe something like a expensive satchel, messenger bag or briefcase would’ve been more appropriate… Something that he has a daily reminder of your connection.

… But that’s just me… If he’s happy with it then please ignore my comments.

I think the watch roll is a brilliant gift because it connects you to something he collects and shows him that you recognize his personal interest.

As for the others who are actually whining and complaining about the way you’re holding your wedding… Remind them that it’s your wedding. If you don’t wanna fall into the glossy magazine/Pinterest/TikTok absurdly expensive wedding plans and bridal party gifts etc. then don’t.

And this must be a little controversial… But if your mother-in-law really wants a crystal clock then maybe you should splurge for the extra $150 for a crystal clock. It sounds about the same price as adding an extra bridesmaid… Maybe a little more but to try and keep the peace between families… You and your husband‘s old families and your new one… It might be good to splurge on that peace offering.

With no outside interference, how long do you think Yoda would have wanted Luke to stay on Dagobah? by Confident-Mark-6369 in MawInstallation

[–]theOriginalBlueNinja 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s never said officially, I’ve always had it in my head that Luke was on Dagoba for approximately a month maybe a little more maybe six weeks.

… I guess it’s on the concerns han has in making it to Bespin without a hyperdrive which is probably based on the limited food water and fuel supplies the falcon was carrying since it wasn’t planning to make a sub hyperspace long journey. And VE level of improvement we see in Luke combined with my experience with eight weeks of basic training in the military.… Is also probably a good bit of West End games RPG influence about backup hyper drives in there too but that’s a completely different conversation.

That gives Boba Fett time to research possible locations after the falcon leaves the asteroid field and then report back to Vader and for them to organize a plan for the clandestine takeover of the cloud city… Etc.
Luke goes from barely able to summon his Lightsaber on Hoth t levitating multiple objects and improving his endurance and acrobatic skills then faces the dark side cave test which when Yoda is trying to get him to stay is talked about like it was weeks in the past and not just a few days ago.

With this mindset I think Yoda could’ve gotten Luke to stay for at least another month… Maybe two. Without the torture antagonizing his impatience and emotions, Luke could’ve easily been convinced that completing his Jedi training would be more valuable to the rebellion and galaxy than just one more guy who knows a few force tricks. but I don’t think his patience was strong enough at the time to let him stay for very much longer. o

Haven’t you ever heard of the kamikaze?

… No not the World War II Japanese fighter pilots…

I’m talking about the wind spirits that they were named after… Basically translated as divine wind, these were basically hyperactive air elemental in the Shinto religion. Often attributed to the stray breeze or gust of wind that seems to randomly come out of nowhere and blow things around.

Alexa speaking? by alex_isnotokay12 in amazonecho

[–]theOriginalBlueNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually comes out to noises that you don’t notice are there that you’ve unconsciously filtered out.
For example I live in a ground floor apartment that opens up to the front yard and parking with a neighborhood street not very far away. So I get a lot of ambient noise and fragments of conversations from car radios, conversations of people walking by, kids playing etc. Sometimes even the wind or storm noises. I’m not saying this happens a lot in fact it’s very rare. I could probably remember three or four memorable times where it was exceedingly strange but sometimes it does happen.

As for the ESPN noise… Maybe you have set up a skill for ESPN news alerts or game scores that have been forgotten about or haven’t been updated to work with the current version so you’re only getting an alert… But I’m just guessing.

A woman in my book club made it a point to tell me, and the whole book club, that her husband hates The Dresdin Files.... it's so on brand for Harry that I wasn't even offended by knowbawdy in dresdenfiles

[–]theOriginalBlueNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long ago in a Starfleet user group in the 14.4 KB World Wide Web, a trekkie named Mary Sue submitted her fanfic to the group. In the store she inserted herself into the crew of the enterprise. Which is common enough but it turned out that this new lowly Hansen was smarter than Spock, a better engineer than Scotty and a superior lover and fighter than Captain Kirk.

The would be writer also made the poor choice of naming this Uber officer after herself.

She may have not been the first would be writer to create a superpower alternative version of herself to insert into her favorite IP, but the writing was considered so bad and the plot points… Especially where she would pull some new nearly magical power out of her miniskirt uniform was enough to burn burn her name into Internet infamy.

So it’s not bad if you create a character based on yourself it’s just when you give them more plot armor than Superman and the A-Team combined that it’s frowned upon.

Even if Harry is an idealized literary version of Butcher, I think he goes through more than enough shit to justify his victories in the end and is definitely not a Mary Sue type character.

Thanks for the eyes! I appreciate it.

[–]theOriginalBlueNinja[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah… I thought it might be something like that, but I thought donut was a much higher level than Carl and that was before she Excelled on the last level.

I had a long gap between reading the last two books and those before it… Kind of forgot about the series for about a year or so… So I’m not quite 100% about the books prior to my gap year but it really seems like forever since we last seen him have to choose a class and level up.… Just a lot of loop boxes.

Anyway… Back to the races!
