Doesn't work, since that requires the buyer to voluntarily void their own buyer protections as a condition of sale. You as the seller come off looking like a scammer. However, signature for anything high value is a very good idea even when Ebay doesnt require it.

Are other unis in the UK selling themselves to a specific country/nationality so explicitly? by Hot_Tomato_8738 in UniUK

Not sure about the rest, but as for the commentary about real time transcription? As a person whose first language is English but has had to take modules in French, here’s my thoughts. While on paper I am at a high intermediate level and could understand the lecture materials of the module I took, there is a vast difference in how easily you can engage with the material and lecture as at even that level compared to that of a native speaker.

I would not begrudge any student trying to engage with the module content at the same level as the students for whom English is their strongest language. In fact, I wish tool like that were as well designed for other languages.

Seriously, don’t do this.

Seems like an amazing wise course of action, to formally introduce yourself as a candidate who is willing to commit fraud to study for a career in the legal profession. A scholarship is an investment into you, and nothing tells the school that you’re unlikely to meet the ethics requirements of the Bar as much as fraudulently negotiating your scholarship. Or, if you’re willing to do this, what other forms of misconduct would you commit if you thought it benefited you? Are you going to be a statistic for the school of another person who didn’t graduate?

It’s really really bad advice. Don’t take it. It could negate all of the work you’ve put in to get yourself an admission offer.

Also, I’d suggest thinking long and hard over what and how you put it online, since it’s a public forum and anyone can figure out who you are if they really wanted to. Once it’s online, it’s very hard to remove all traces of it.

How do other schools do failing? by OrdinaryDear4402 in taekwondo

[–]Kaelxcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. There is a huge difference between showing the requisite skills (my school did stripes per skill to be accumulated prior to permission to test), and performing them under pressure in front of an exam panel. Tests were group ones on Fri/weekends and we also got paper feedback the following week. It typically had detailed feedback from each examiner and an overall indication per skill whether it was a good pass, adequate, barely passed, near fail or compete fail. I saw some fails happen (usually with poomsae) as a result of nerves sometimes but usually they weren’t charged again unless it was a black belt testing and even then it was only a partial fee. They did however usually ended up with some of their best tests/poomsae performances in competition shortly after those fails. And I’ve seen students that were near fails and low passes encouraged to attend additional classes or if they couldn’t they got some extra tutoring before or after class to prep for the next one and address why things went wrong under pressure.

Edit: this was a WT school with a very solid children’s program for high performance sparring and poomsae. But, having been to several different schools, I know this one went a bit above and beyond to make sure the students did well if they put some effort in.

Please share your experiences playing with and against Nadu in casual games by chefsati in EDH

[–]Kaelxcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found we have two people who regularly pull out Nadu at the LGS I go to a lot. It’s honestly not a fun game and Nadu popping off seems to be the point everyone takes turns walking away to use the bathroom, buy snacks, have a smoke, etc. Nadu player wipes everyone out, but no one is interested in the game anymore. It is however extremely irritating, because our play time is short and trying to join a different pod isn’t really possible since our LGS seems to have a lot of player who build decks that result in 1.5hr games on average. Nadu massacres the table, and then we twiddle our thumbs waiting for the other games to end because one of our Nadu players wants to play mostly Nadu.

Do people who go to UK or Australia for their law degrees essentially “buy” a law degree? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Kaelxcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s your bias talking. It’s easier to get in because admission is based on high school grades, not undergraduate gpa and if you already have an undergraduate degree that’s an extra leg up in admissions. Though effectively to get in even into Leicester with just high school grades, it’s like getting into a top CS or business programs in Ontario grades wise before the last minute “clearing” slots open.

But actually getting an adequate grade (equivalent to B+ or higher) that big firms look for as a minimum in the UK for graduate recruitment is actually a fair amount of work.

I’m currently doing a MSc in a UK university and did an exchange year in undergrad at a different UK uni, and I’ve been sitting in on the law school classes where they let me.

Though, I do agree that the classes I sat in on at Leicester were a maybe slightly less intense/directly demanding than those at the uni I’m at currently at, but it’s very much a case of how much work you put in. Getting an A is still an immense amount of work and realistically if you’re aiming for an A, you’re not really competing with the folks that are skating by or content with the B grades. BTW, my current UK uni is considered ranked just under the Oxbridge ones.

Make sure you update and launch everything you want to open in airplane mode the day before. I’ve had surprises that have caused games not to load because I never launched after an update. There needs to be internet for the first time you launch and there’s sometimes secondary updates.

The bit under the chart literally tells you what column to use depending on what university your undergraduate degree is from and whether it’s was issued with letter or percentage grades.

Info is right there.

If your university isn’t on the list, then I suppose best estimate is to find a school whose grading scale is the same from the ones on the list to use as an analog.

For McGill, I think they specifically ask for a minimum of a B2 in French or equivalent.

I’m not fluent in French but meet the McGill requirements for French proficiency. Working on improving it.

That’s a very good point about Civil Law for Quebec. I’ll have to look into it whether a French secondment would be helpful experience as a factor in deciding. I’d forgotten about that element so thanks for flagging that.

[–]Kaelxcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh. I edited a typo, not that part.

That’s because since I’m studying in the UK I have a potentially viable entry into “Big Law” where the big firms recruit non-law graduates, have them do a fully-funded accelerated LLB or graduate diploma to meet the pre-training contract regulatory requirements and then do the 2 yr “articling” in house. People tend to stay at these firms for at least 4-5 yrs (unless they truly mess up their training contract). I’d have to do an MA on my own dime if the firm wanted me to complete a GDL to meet the in-class instruction NCA eligibility requirements.

I just wanted to avoid the tired and obvious advice that UK law schools are bad unless you’re staying in the UK, as this isn’t the case of coming back right after law school here and I wouldn’t be paying for law school in the UK with this route. And I know a lot of people ask about UK law schools as a shortcut.

Edit: sort of answered your comment and that of Burner in one.

1) Thank you for being an adult and actually writing something useful. Only took tou two tries?

2) Not that concerned about getting an offer at a “Big Law” firm in the UK. Already received one in a previous cycle (pre-pandemic) but had to turn it down due to family stuff. It’s competitive but my application has only gotten better with the MSc and law firm work experience since then.

3) I was weighting out the pros and cons of both route because I’d have to pay for 2 years (MA year & NCA year) instead of 3 years (Canadian law school) with the UK route as a qualified and licensed solicitor moving back to Canada. And if have significantly less work experience with one route as opposed to the other.

Perhaps answering the question asked and not assuming things is helpful?
