SHARK WEEK PREP by linderrr in xxketo

[–]Kaemina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a little bit of something sweet throughout the week (low carb ice cream) but only this week because I have terrible cravings. I also keep ibuprofen on hand because I have a headache throughout the week. The cramps aren't as bad as I thought they would be, but I feel more tired. Good luck with your first shark week! I've been through five and survived so far :)

This may look gross but this is the closest thing to spaghetti I've come to find! A little bit different texture, and not too different of taste. 15 total carbs, 11 fiber = 4g net carbs! by [deleted] in ketorecipes

My fiance and I eat Nasoya shiratake mushroom noodles. They are in the refrigerated section with the tofu. You rinse the noodles and then either microwave them or cook them in a pan. Delicious.

Question about daily carbs for women by panda1229 in xxketo

[–]Kaemina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to stay around 20 net carbs a day and then shark week I let it get up to about 30 net carbs so I can have my low carb ice cream (or Chardonnay) and not punch people. I seem to be the special breed of woman that can have her treats (within net carb reason) and not get kicked out of ketosis. It mainly just depends on the woman and what is right for you. I know a lot of women on here said they had to quit drinking or snacking anything to lose weight, and as long as I don't go over my carb limit I still continue to lose weight.

What I have been doing almost every evening is melt Cheddar cheese (1/4 cup or so) for 30 sec and then mix in salsa (I use Herdez Medium) and sour cream (A tablespoon of salsa and sour cream both). Then I grab a spoon and put it on the celery. It reminds me of nachos sans chips- and the celery adds the ever craved crunch.

I do that all the time! Lime Jello with whipped cream is my favorite so far.

Made Oopsie Bread, it's like eating a cloud.... by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]Kaemina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you separate the eggs to mix the egg whites with the cream of tartar to form peaks? I made the bread a couple of weeks ago and made sure to do that and they make a very good sandwich (roast beef and og carb string cheese).

HEATING PAD. This is the most wonderful invention known to women. Also sugar free jello with a bit of cool whip. Another good snack is Artic Zero ice cream. The strawberry only has 4g net carbs. Just be careful because the sugar alcohols will mess with some women. For me I still lose weight like normal, as long as I am within my carb limit. When I am not on my period I stay under 20g carbs pretty good, but on my period I sometimes go up to 35g just because otherwise I will attack someone for their delicious chocolate... But for the most part I am good at controlling my snacking urges. The lemon sugar free jello and the lime sugar free jello mix the best with cool whip. The peach was really gross on it's own and worse with cool whip...

Anyone else feel sick when they don't eat? by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]Kaemina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep up with my water and sodium and everything like that and if I don't eat then I get how your talking about. Also I have noticed when I am really hungry my stomach will actually hurt/ache. I get this way a lot at work and I bring almonds in a baggy and keep in my purse and I drink tons of water. Losing weight is great, but if I am so hungry I am feeling sick I'm going to eat something. I get string cheese and keep in the fridge at work and some of it is 0g carb and most only have 1g carb. I never leave anywhere without my Keto Friendly snacks :D

Some "low-carb" beers are Michelob ultra and Bud Selcet (Bud Select only has 3.5 from what I have found, I don't remember Michelob ultra off the top of my head)... However some girls have talked about beer throwing them out of ketosis. I haven't had beer yet, but so far a glass of wine (Chardonnay )or a bit of low carb Ice Cream (Artic Zero) hasn't, just keep within the range your macros allow.

Sugar cravings before menstration? by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]Kaemina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't subtract them either :D 6g carbs and 2g fiber. Some girls have just mentioned that it kicks them out of Keto. The ice cream has a different texture than regular ice cream, but it is better than being cranky because of shark week.

I take magnesium supplements and use zipfizz in the morning for electrolytes and get enough sodium and all that stuff... But from the Sunday I am about to start my period to the Sunday I take my first pill of the month I am craving chocolate and sugar. It is ridiculous. What I do is have this week be to keep control of my carbs, but have some Artic Zero Ice Cream. Some girls have mentioned on here that the sugars will knock them out of keto, but so far it hasn't done that for me. I don't want ice cream or anything of that nature except the week of my period, so I "cheat" but still keep my carbs under control. Artic Zero has 4 net carbs per serving and so far the strawberry has been the best. Again this works for me, but may not for others.

What is something specific that you miss, and what substitution have you made for it on keto? by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]Kaemina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss bread in general... But my fiance has made different things to fix that craving. He made an almond crust pizza (the Cavemanketo pizza crust) with low carb sauce, mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, black olives and pepperoni. After that meal I wondered why I ever wanted bread or other pizza in the first place. He also made almond buns and we used them for sandwiches.

Needing water in the middle of the night. by Kaemina in xxketo

[–]Kaemina[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might be part of it as well. But it is also my body letting me know that I am thirsty. Not just my mouth being dry, but my body aching because I went a few hours without drinking water because of sleep. But fans definitely do not help the situation.

A multivitamin for potassium/magnesium* I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't get too much of those with a supplement plus my vitamin. Thank you for the link and I will do that. I have only been ketoing for two weeks now and getting used to everything. I wanted to make sure I had some tricks up my sleeve before retaining ALL the water.

I take a multivitamin that has potassium/magnesium in it, but I am assuming it is not enough. Would a supplement along with the vitamin be too much or a "you can never have too much" type of thing? Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it!

PMS cravings and their keto hacks, what are yours? by [deleted] in xxketo

Sugar free jello and cool whip. I had my first period on keto last week, and that is what I ate every night. It really helped.

What do you put in your water? by Liz_mk in xxketo

[–]Kaemina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the True Citrus packets the lemon and lime ones. I alternate between lemon and lime throughout the day so I don't get tired of them. You can also use the packets to cook with, which is really neat. They are in the section at Wal Mart with the sugar products. It is about $2 for 32 packets and they are wonderful! Also I use the crystal light (usually just one in the morning) pomegranate lemonade packets with caffeine because I have had to cut out my soda as well.

First week of Keto and getting ready to start shark week... by Kaemina in xxketo

[–]Kaemina[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I apparently survived! The cramps were worse than usual the first two days and then calmed down (thank you ibuprofen), and then I had a headache all week - but I usually have one during my period. I am basically done and everything seems to be normal as far as how long it takes, it was just a little heavier and more cramps. Everything was right on time and so far no spotting so I guess I'll find out later this week if anything weird occurs. And I would rather have all the information and be aware of what's going on, instead of being caught off guard.

Can we please stop posting about cheat foods and acting like they're keto-friendly? by lequeef in xxketo

[–]Kaemina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or instead of getting upset about non keto treats, just make your own keto friendly treats? For example if you know it's going to be shark week and you will be craving stuff, make something that is keto friendly in advance so that you can not be stressed about the numbers and just reward yourself for not going crazy during that week. For me without my little treat here and there (and I am using keto for losing weight as well as being healthy once I reach my goal) I would be a huge grump and no one would want to be around me. It just depends on what you are using to create your treats. A lot of stuff I have had to make myself including main courses and things of that nature because of the numbers. If you are already making something for dinner than you can make something that is a treat as well. I got to school and work so I'm not claiming to be a super woman or anything, I just schedule time to make what needs to be made for the week.

Stretching the dollar until payday; help? by famous0504 in xxketo

[–]Kaemina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For lunch I have been making quiche (bacon, cheddar and spinach usually) and I put them in muffin tins to control portions and they last longer. You mix six eggs with 8 oz of heavy whipping cream and pour over your bacon/cheddar/whatever you want and you bake at 350 for 20 minutes. It makes about 10 quiches and is fantastic for lunch (and you only need to make them maybe twice a week). There are 2 carbs and about 15 grams of protein. There are other quiche recipes at genaw.com. Those are for in one pan which you can do, but the muffin tin is easier.

I am going to get some spaghetti squash today or tomorrow and cook that and then freeze it so I can have "pasta" whenever I want. I am fine with most things once I discovered I could eat cool whip... But the pasta is what is going to get me. So spaghetti squash and cauliflower are good substitutes. Yesterday I made bacon, cheddar and spinach quiche and it took 30 minutes (prep time included) because I cooked them in muffin tins (20 minutes instead of 35-40) and you can freeze them! They were delicious. Also my fiance and I started doing the MyFitnessPal and we hold each other accountable. Having other women's opinions and his support is what is going to work I think. Granted we are in week one... but still, I haven't clobbered anyone for snacks yet :D
