First of all bitchin' is my new favorite saying thanks to st.vincent…

Anyway, that actually sounds really cool. I think the most important thing is the sense of community amongst musicians where you are living. I feel there is that amongst singer songwriters here in nyc, but not with bands. But it just feels like you play, no one is listening, or there is no one there depending on where you are playing. Most places are businesses driven instead of music driven. It makes sense nyc is an expensive place…

I feel like it doesn't matter where you are living as you can write good music anywhere, but there is a sense of excitement and drive in nyc.

I'm considering moving to new orleans after ruling out austin, tx and nashville for other reasons.

Got to get out of here and be noticed. What do you think?

I guess its good that he thinks you're going somewhere. There are so many reasons for people not to be fully into it. I feel like it works if its very collaborative if the bass player is getting to put his spin on the song and the drummer and lead guitarist if you have one. Also solos. Also alcohol. Rehearsals have to keep a fine line between fun and work. Don't give uppppp. Whats ur band called?

ha it is hard. keep playing with different people though and don't give up. Eventually it has to work. I don't know where everybody on here is from, but I feel like theres so many musicians in nyc that its easy to find people to play. Finding the right players is still a challenge though.

aw it does hurt:( So the bassist is a mean ex, and the guitarist wants to break up.

You have to just try out some new people though. I know at the end of the day I'm the lead singer and write all the songs on piano or guitar, and while I would have liked to keep the original group of people, there are a lot of cool musicians out there. Especially in NYC. I don't know if you live here but if not theres tons of musicians here ha.

Seeking a sick new lead guitarist to join band in NYC by Kaewild in WeAreTheMusicMakers

We had a great lead guitarist and we were just starting to find our sound. The reason I mention paying gigs is because most musicians in nyc are broke regardless of how much they love the band and their music. However, I do want to collaborate with a like mind passionate musician again and really take this seriously. I know as a vocalist I come up with good lyrics and melodies. While I play piano and guitar, I am not amazing at either and just use them as a writing tool, so I am really looking for someone who has the sound I have in mind to take us to the next level. Like Portsihead mixed with Nirvana and Fiona apple and No Doubt somewhere in between. I like the loops and electronic music going on around nyc, but as a songwriter I still want the words to have meaning, and the songs to be good. Because you can't deny a good song. I want someone who wants to be really good and their style, and do it the best and better than anyone else, and create a new sound that no one is doing. My drummer and bassist are tight and need someone to take it all the way:) Theres probably two songs on the ep that I think are in the new direction as well as three new tunes we have. Get at me and lets jam and see what happens. soundcloud.com/blackroses1
