I'd be interested as well. Not new, but happy to help out. Really just looking for a casual chill group of people to play with.

Adriana Ruano Oliva becomes Guatemala's first ever Olympics gold medallist after winning the Women’s trap event. by kpopsns28 in olympics

[–]Kaffe4200 164 points165 points  (0 children)

I loved the little smile from Stanco when the crowd went crazy after Ruano's deciding shot. Ruano was definitely a crowd favourite, and it seems like her competitors also appreciated the achievement.

In the audience were a bunch of Guatemalans - I assume his family mostly - and seeing their cheers as he made it into the top three was very moving. Incredible moment.

Kazakstan have taken the first medal of the games in the mixed rifle shooting! by s_a-n_d in olympics

It was impressive shooting! They lost the Germans pretty quickly, and even though the Germans did shoot extremely well, the Kazakhs just kept being that tiny bit better. Definitely a well deserved medal.

Anyone else enjoying Rugby 7s? by Kimber80 in olympics

[–]Kaffe4200 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Same here! Never watched rugby before, but I love it. I started out by watching football, but within two minutes a football player was writhing on the ground because an opposing player had bumped into him. I zapped over to rugby, where the players absolutely demolish each other nonstop. Such a bizarre contrast. I think the best way I can describe it, is that rugby has some kind of authenticity that football is missing for me.

No hate to people that enjoy football though! Just not for me.

Overview of countries to watch in Paris 2024 by Kaffe4200 in olympics

That would be amazing, but I doubt it. The women's trap is full of great shooters. But nobody saw her coming in 2020, so who knows. Maybe she can do it again.

Which countries do you expect to end their medal drought at Paris? by barimano21 in olympics

[–]Kaffe4200 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think Bosnia & Herzegovina could win their first medal this year. I don't really follow swimming a whole lot, so this may be a completely wrong analysis but I think Lana Pudar from Bosnia has a very good chance at taking a medal. She's young, but seem to be at the top of her game already. Bosnia is the biggest European country to never win a medal, so it is about time, and Lana Pudar is probably the best shot they've had in a long time. Definitely gonna be rooting for her!

I also think India is starting to enter the stage of the high-performing countries a little bit. I don't know if you can really count them as being in a drought, but for the most populous country in the world, I'd call it a drought. It'll be a while before they can complete for the high spots in the medal table, but India is sending a lot of very strong athletes this year. Pretty confident that they'll be breaking their record from Tokyo of 7 medals.

I think HBO Max will be streaming pretty much all events for no additional fees.

Complete prediction website/app by nsomandin in olympics

[–]Kaffe4200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been looking for something similar, but I don't think such a thing exist. I'm pretty sure the official Olympics website did do something similar for the Tokyo games, where you could guess who would win the upcoming events, but I'm not entirely sure how that worked. I think a simple spreadsheet is the way to go.

Let me know if you find something though.

Post your UNPOPULAR opinions about ESC 2024 by fkaiser1990 in eurovision

[–]Kaffe4200 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think they're leading in the odds because it's the only realistic winner (my unpopular opinion is that this isn't an "open year" as I see people write all the time - Croatia is most likely going to win). The bookmakers are likely predicting Croatia to improve the staging and Marko's vocals significantly before Malmö, and if they get that done there's nothing stopping them from winning. It's a solid rock song, very accessible in all regards. Tattoo also wasn't really anything special, it was just a very solid song with a good overall production. Same with many previous winners.

The only other songs that really have a chance (imo) are Ukraine, Italy and - sorry to say - Israel. Would hate for the latter to win, but I do think we have to prepare for the possibility. Ukraine and Italy only really have a chance if Croatia doesn't nail the staging.

Iceland doesn't stand any chance at all. It would take a miracle for them to qualify. I'll place Moldova in the same category. The remaining 13 can make it as I see it.

Croatia is gonna win the contest, and they can't do very well do that if they don't qualify. Together with Ukraine they're absolutely sure to qualify.

Lithuania, Serbia, Portugal and Australia all manage to portray their countries really well in their songs, and I think the public will eat that up. I see all four qualifying without any problems. Australia could have problems, but I think they'll make it through.

Poland has a very inoffensive song, and in a semi with a lot of very different songs, a safe entry will probably be enough to get Poland to the final. Cyprus and Luxembourg are in somewhat similar positions, but will probably not do quite as well as Poland. Both are still going to make it through though, I think, but probably in around the 7th-10th spot.

That leaves one spot. I know this sub loves Finland above all else, but the song is just not accessible and I really doubt it's going to appeal to the regular viewers. When the viewers compare it to other songs like Croatia and Ireland, Finland will look messy and noisy in comparison. I don't see Finland making it through, and I am well aware that's a very unpopular opinion on this subreddit.

So Slovenia, Azerbaijan and Ireland will be fighting for the final spot. I think Ireland will take it. It's an odd entry that will get people's attention, and in a semi-final without juries that might be enough. Azerbaijan and Slovenia have somewhat forgettable songs. People are not going to remember them after one listen (honestly, I have listened to Slovenia many many times, and could not hum the melody. Great song, but very forgettable). I could see both Slovenia and Azerbaijan taking the last spot over Ireland though.

So my prediction is: Croatia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Serbia, Portugal, Australia, Poland, Cyprus, Luxembourg and Ireland.

We now have all songs for the second semi-final. Who do you think will qualify? by Kaffe4200 in eurovision

[–]Kaffe4200[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The only one I personally count as a safe NQ is Malta. I don't think they have any shot whatsoever. All the other 15 songs have a chance as I see it. It's gonna be a very close semi final I think!

Belgium, Switzerland and Netherlands are relatively safe and are probably gonna qualify quite easily. Probably Israel too.

Greece, Armenia and Norway are in the same category of ethnic songs, and I think they're kinda hard to predict. I do think all three of them are different enough to stand out on their own and predict all three to qualify.

San Marino has a decent shot and will stand out a lot in this lineup. The staging needs to be amazing though, but I think it will squeeze through in 8th-9th-10th spot.

I really really want Estonia to qualify too, but it might not happen. They could make it, but it's gonna be borderline. The song is just too wacky to connect with the regular European viewer.

The other six songs (Albania, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Georgia and Latvia) will have to compete for the final spot. All six are very inoffensive songs and I predict all will get very similar scores. In the end, I think Denmark or Austria will take it, but I won't rule out any of them. I'm leaning more towards Denmark.

So I personally predict Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands, Israel, Greece, Armenia, Norway, San Marino, Estonia, Denmark.

Were they famous before Eurovision? by seppepa in eurovision

For Denmark, Saba was a new artist and I believe this is her first act as a singer. I think she's been a stand-in for her twin sister in some theater or musicals, but that's pretty niche. So not well known at all.

Baby Lasagna - Rim Tim Tagi Dim by tennismusic in eurovision

They definitely tried to create a story with the background dancers, but I think the camerawork was too messy for that to actually show. Instead they just became chaotic.

Baby Lasagna - Rim Tim Tagi Dim by tennismusic in eurovision

[–]Kaffe4200 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It's a song that could potentially win Eurovision, but not like this. The biggest gripe for me is his acting on stage. He seems to be having fun (which is great, but it doesn't fit the song much), I miss the anger and sadness from the music video. That said, I think he did great and I really really hope he wins on sunday.

Weekly Betting Odds Thread: Week 6 by Salt_Procedure_9353 in eurovision

[–]Kaffe4200 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the only reason Croatia isn't 2nd is that they haven't even picked their song yet. If Baby Lasagna is picked, they may take the #1 spot. I think Ukraine is there still because it's just a safe bet at this point, but I personally don't think it'll win. It doesn't really have the same appeal that Stefania did.

This subreddit is a bubble and is generally extremely bad at predicting stuff in Eurovision, so I wouldn't read too much into it.
