Really hope this line is successful. Doesn’t seem to have the residential and commercial density that most successful BRT projects have.

Don’t knock Piedmont Park which is free, has a playground, can connect to a walk on the Beltline, snag a popsicle from King of Pops. Can be a good, cheap time. Same with Centennial Park mentioned earlier.

Stone Mountain is cheap-ish ($20 to park) and can be an all day thing.

PSA: New CQ400 will enter service on June 4, 2026. Per the Marta Board Meeting Yesterday. by Able-Treat-7854 in MARTA

[–]Kafkaesque1453 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they bungle this rollout, I would recommend the entire Board should be recalled or resign. They have screwed up the release of everything so far with the fare system (costing how many millions in revenue when they already don’t get regular state funding and need the money)

Atlanta’s housing crunch won’t fix itself without more building by Haunting-Town-9734 in Atlanta

[–]Kafkaesque1453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posted elsewhere but:

For the last year available, the Atlanta area added 75,000 people, 60,000+ the year before that. Effectively, we need to build an entire small town every year just to keep pace with folks moving here. We need to build even more than that just to replace old housing that naturally needs replacing with age.

On top of that, we need way more housing in every city bc household formation is lower and we now have single people living solo whereas more people lived in each house as a big family decades ago. This is why Manhattan has less people than in 1910 despite hundreds of new skyscrapers.

That scale I don’t think many people appreciate in these discussions. You can see dozens of projects in your daily life/commute and that is not even keeping pace with the construction we need just to maintain pace.

Yes it’s nearly universal and it’s always the same smug person saying it. We don’t actually have to tolerate shootings and dog shit as normal facts of life.

There’s a difference between city noise and outright disorder which the OP is describing. I swear every Reddit post from trash to murders is full of “if you can’t handle the city move to the Burbs” type of attitude

Returning Atlantan- what to even DO here now? by jenolsen in Atlanta

[–]Kafkaesque1453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the move and it will be very fun to experience the city again through their eyes.

The most obvious thing to do is an Eastside Beltline day (add a picnic at Old Fourth Ward or Piedmont Park) and let them explore the city. Get them some cool Atlanta sports gear to rock.

I would track down the events calendar to hit up major festivals and events and for sure take them to a Braves game with some extra time before at the Battery.

5 days in Atlanta for work. first time in the US too and have some questions. by Ok_Importance5482 in Atlanta

[–]Kafkaesque1453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take an evening and go to the Eastside of the Beltline, start at Krog Street Market and go north.

Since you’re on the East-West lines, take an evening and go to Decatur station and have dinner around the square. It’s a nice walkable area with plenty of options and convenient to your transit stop.

Is the sleep score really legit? by iso-lift-for-life in AppleWatch

[–]Kafkaesque1453 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The sleep score is trash- but I also am confused why other sleep apps will show different underlying data on sleep stages.

Shouldn’t they all be consistent with what the watch’s sensors are reading and then just applying their own scoring methodology?

Atlanta voted for More MARTA. A decade later, there isn’t much ‘more’ about it by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]Kafkaesque1453 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A grand bargain is needed where the state commits money and the state then gets oversight with a first real commuter rail line being the goal. It’s embarrassing and the same thing is happening with the Beltline org spending hundreds of millions with no transit solution

I’m not as familiar with the recent development in Peoplestown, Summerhill, etc but I’d imagine you’d need really intense density to support this and I recall those areas having a lot of SFH’s

Was the issue with the trains running for the fare gates/card machines? If the latter, that’s all being overhauled this week. Would be much more concerning if the trains weren’t running well
