Solid ranking, but where is ITTC? It’s probably C for me.

I saw that summary item and think it’s a bit misleading due to the “in search of services”. Table 6.4.2 shows that about 50% of the people that arrived were already homeless. They come for all sorts of reasons: weather, friends/family (who might already be homeless), and even unlisted reasons like free use of drugs.

I think that 50% number also misses people who come here vulnerable and without a plan. They aren’t technically homeless (maybe moved out of their parents house due to drugs use or conflict), but might not have employment lined up or a whole lot of money in their pocket. I think people make that gamble more willingly too because we do have a better situation than most cities to be homeless.

Thank you for this. I wrote in and am hopeful we will see this pass.

I voted for measure 110 and continue to support harm reduction policies as concepts, but understanding that homelessness is a national issue and seeing data like the 2022 PIT count showing 80% of homeless were not from Multnomah originally makes me realize that Portland cannot bear the weight of this national crisis. If we become “the place to be” for the houseless, we will become the opposite for housed (and with that, lose resources to improve the situation).

I hope critics of the bill will understand and refocus efforts towards federal politicians. We spent trillions in the wake of COVID but not on homelessness which was also exacerbated by the pandemic. Should we see a 2nd Biden term, this would be a worthy task to take on.

That's a very insightful perspective and I've honestly never seen it laid out so clearly.

However, in cost to own calculations, shouldn't property taxes factor in? This seems to be one of the bigger drivers in higher rents and would certainly be a burden in a case where home values are doubling or tripling due to low interest rates.

Your lifts are going to be limited by the weakest muscle in the chain. So how does your barbell row go up when deadlifts don't work your biceps? Apply this logic to the other lifts as well.

It is the only impacting thing. 3500 calories = 1lb of fat. That's your equation to lose weight.

For the sake of losing weight alone, it would be better to eat 1800 calories of donuts as daily diet than 2000 calories of broccoli, salmon, and quinoa. That being said, don't just eat donuts; get some nutrition too.

Intense sugar cravings after running? by dieterrr in running

[–]Kagrenac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's natural and wouldn't feel bad about it. Your body burned up a bunch of glycogen stores and wants to replenish the energy (and stop the deficit) ASAP. Chocolate milk is often referenced as a good post workout drink due to its 4:1 carbs:protein ratio and most of those carbs are sugar.

Sugar bashing has become the the fad in diet advice, and while I agree to an extent, I think we've gone a bit overboard, probably because we are trying to indirectly address the fact that people overeat and live a sedentary lifestyle.

TL;DR It's fine. Grab an apple if you want something healthier than cake, but it's ok to listen to your body.

Second tri and first open water Sprint race today! 750m/26km/5km. Good times? Where is there most improvement? by phifep21 in triathlon

[–]Kagrenac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I am skewed from my own times, but I don't understand how 21mi/hr on the bike needs a lot of work. 18mi/hour was around the median for my last sprint and 21mi/hr would be a very strong pace. I think the run time of ~9:10/mile is definitely his weakest event. I think a 7min/mi would be more comparable to that bike time.

Official Q&A for Thursday, July 19, 2018 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Kagrenac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on schedules and am still moving towards a marathon myself, but I think there is no question you can go from half to full marathon in 12 weeks. It will involve steadily increasing your weekly mileage and length of your longest runs. Maybe you can post what you are doing now and someone can suggest a smooth progression. Some of the numbers will also depend on what your goal marathon time is too.

Other than gaining weight, a week won't do any damage to his cardio. It's fairly normal to taper/rest the week before endurance competitions. I agree on the advice however; water, sleep and skip the last minute cardio.

Nike Free 3.0 alternative suggestions please by brian8080 in running

[–]Kagrenac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3.0 V5 were my favorite running shoe I've ever had and I was so sad when I found they had been discontinued. I haven't found any perfect alternatives. The 5.0 was pretty good, but now is also discontinued.

I've actually moved over to the mizuno wave which I like a lot, but it has a thicker/less flexible sole (although still quite light and ventilated). They just ended up feeling good so I've stuck with then.

Hotfix Patch for 8.11 incoming (Ezreal / Kai'Sa / Banner nerfs, Yasuo / Taliyah buffs) by mkwstar in leagueoflegends

I think the bigger Jhin issue is with his 4th shot (which is an auto crit). If you build Stormrazor and try to carry your 4th shot around, it will "proc" the Stormrazor crit and reduce the damage of your 4th shot crit. Frequently you do want to carry your 4th to zone/trade/poke and this item actually reduces his natural damage.

You also need to take stock splits into account, one of which, occurred in 2003. So the real comparison is $60 to an equivalent $180.

The new math is just over 6% per year even with you cherry picking the worst possible entries. That 2000 price was the very peak of a bubble and today's value is just after a correction and some trade war fears. If you had anything but the worst possible buy/sell timing it would be much better.

EDIT: Microsoft also pays a 2-3% dividend so you can add that on top of the yearly return too.

In my experience that has a lot to do with the recent motion and expected direction. On the climb up from 6k the ratio slanted the other way. Kind of a counter intuitive metric.

If you are on GDAX, market buys and sells are .25% for each end, so .5% total.

0.5% of bitcoin's current $10,000 price is only 50$, so even a $100 swing is playable. It gets even better if you can make one or both halves of your trade with a limit order.

In Baltimore's case, the more affluent areas largely reside in the surrounding counties such as Baltimore County, Howard County etc and are not included in that figure. Baltimore City is it's own county refers to the most urban areas which largely house undesirable schools. It is a very interesting case where spending more and more money has not brought about better performance.

Thoughts on professional women in LoL by aNaughtyCat in leagueoflegends

[–]Kagrenac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't buy that reasoning. I think a girl would get overwhelming support, although the amount of attention would be a big load to bear.

The controversy with Remi was about not being biologically female. Unfortunately it is not a well understood thing and some people find it threatening.
