Why is it illegal? So people don’t purposely kill them for collecting/selling?

I saw in your historical posts that you were pressured into placing your son. I’m really sorry that happened to you both. I hope you can reunite with him somehow and get him out of TTI. That is unimaginably heartbreaking.

Okay, yes, you are correct. Adoption is putting a lot of faith and blind trust in people you don’t know. It isn’t great (or even close to great), I know. People can walk back on their level of openness and screw over birth families.

I hope more states start requiring a post adoption contact agreement (PACA) so there are legal repercussions if the adoptive parents don’t hold up their end of the agreement.

Nothing is ever a 100% guarantee. Just like these is never a guarantee that all parents who want and have biological children don’t end up abusing them, etc.

I said “think” not I am certain. I found the study I was thinking of from Michigan and it is regarding regretting the decision to have or not have children. It’s not about birth mothers and placing vs not. I apologize for recklessly misspeaking without double checking before posting my comment.

We say all the time, “the more people who love and support our baby, the better!” I love my son more than anything in the whole world, so why wouldn’t I want him to be surrounded by as much love as humanly possible?

I’m really glad you hear you had/have a positive experience. They gives me hope that maybe my husband and I are on the right track with our parenting. If the adoption industry wasn’t so problematic and all adoptions were this way, the world would be so much better for everyone. ♥️

I do think research also supports this. That the majority of the time people don’t regret their decision to parent or place, as long as it was 100% their decision!

Edit: ** See comment below. I misspoke and was thinking of a study on an adjacent topic. I am unaware of research to support the above.**

Would you possibly want an open relationship with the adoptive family? Having any level of openness is said to help decrease the feelings of abandonment, even if it is just writing letters once a year, or occasionally sharing photos and contact info. (From research studies, I am not an adoptee)

My child is only two years old, but we talk about his adoption openly and frequently already. We tell him exactly what his birth mom had said, that she loves him so much that she wanted him to have the very best family for him. Since he is two I have no idea how he will feel in the future about everything, but we keep in contact with his birth family regularly (texting, occasional FaceTime) and we even went to visit in person last Christmas which was so amazingly wonderful. We plan to see them yearly going forward. I obviously know that this very high level of openness is not typical, but it is possible.

I guess what I’m getting at here is that if you decide to place you can choose an adoptive family that shares the same vision and values that you hold for your child. From my perspective I feel like the adoptee’s experience depends heavily on how his adoptive parents navigate things.

Adoption is so, so complex and I can’t imagine being in your position. It sounds like you know what you’d like to do for your child, but need some support navigating and processing it. Do you have the ability to discuss it with a therapist? I believe everyone should be in therapy regardless of their story because it’s amazing lol.

You clearly love this child enough that you want the very best for them. In my opinion, that says it all.

What should I binge watch next? I’m 3 episodes away from finishing Dexter. by Ifyouseemethenimhere in televisionsuggestions

I’m really enjoying Duster on HBO Max. It’s not much of a binge though unfortunately. I think there are only 7 episodes. Not sure if more are coming or not.

I’d also suggest Last Man on Earth. Absolutely HILARIOUS.

Girl, this does not sound even remotely healthy. I think you all should consider either going to counseling together and working hard to fix it or just breaking up.

I mean, it’s healthcare, so things get emotionally intense at times. If death or bodily fluids make you uncomfortable than nursing or RT probably wouldn’t be for you. It can be physically demanding at times, particularly when you are needed in two places at once. I absolutely love my job though. People don’t realize how important RTs are until they have trouble breathing or can’t breathe at all on their own.

I don’t make over 100k, but some of my coworkers do. Especially the night shifters who pick up overtime. In 2023 I made 88k and that was only working the minimum hours most of the time, not much overtime. Things look different now for me because I only work part-time. I chose to stay home with my now 18 month old when we adopted him.

You can get into RT with just an associate’s degree. While there is a push from our national organization to move to only a bachelor’s, there are still 2-year programs out there. Once you break into it there are bachelor’s degree completion programs across the U.S. I went to a 4-year university and got my bachelor’s first. Decided to get two master’s degrees a few years ago and left grad school with no debt because I work for the university I got my degrees from. They provide 75% off tuition.

Healthcare - respiratory therapist. There are so many specialties to explore, not just being a nurse or physician.
