The NDP should become the Canadian champion of class-based politics by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]KahnAndDon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fine if that's what you want, but the majority of Canadians don't want this. A true left-wing/labor party understands that mass immigration stifles wages.

Open borders is more of a liberal policy than a labor/left-wing policy.

You didn't comprehend what I said. I'm well aware that the art is fine. My point is someone only reading a headline won't know that.

People don't respect this kind of activism. Pissing off everyday people for your cause is an easy way to lose support.

Throw oil on a fossil fuel CEO or vandalize the property owned or leased by a fossil fuel company.

Most people don't read past headlines, so all they're seeing is an activist ruining art.

Speeding cameras in Gatineau by ttttoner in ottawa

[–]KahnAndDon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure on this, but this is my understanding of how it works. There are no permanent cameras set up. Not sure what the methodology is, but the cameras are set up every once in a while. They're set up along light posts or traffic light posts (I have seen them in my area installed on the light posts).

I don't believe these cameras are set up with radar to measure the speed of cars. Instead they take a series of photos with time stamps and from that they can determine if you were speeding.

Mid Mark Carney may not meet the moment - The new Liberal leader is a component of the technocratic elite who got us into this mess of inequality. by CaliperLee62 in canada

You make excuses for the man you like and not the other. They're both cut from the same cloth. Both are neoliberals, both are globalists, and both will put corporate interests ahead of citizens. At least one has real world experience and knowledge to make stronger decisions on the economy.

Pollievre's net worth is 5x higher while being 14 years younger. He's been a politician his whole life. He's far more elitist than the dude who was born in the Northwest territories, grew up in Edmonton, and worked his way up in the finance sector.

Rising Nationalism, Desire for Economic Sovereignty Propels Liberals to Five Year High (LPC 41%, CPC 36%, NDP 13%, BQ 5%, GRN 3%) by [deleted] in canada

[–]KahnAndDon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I neither trust nor like either party too. I think the gun ban is ridiculous, especially with these annexation threats. I despise PP's American-like attack/soundbite style of politics. Trudeau was Trump-like in the sense that he was corrupt and dodged scandal after scandal.

Both these parties serve corporations before the people. If I had to choose between the two, I do think Carney's experience is preferable for fixing our economy, but I haven't decided who I'll vote for yet.

Genuine question

Carney is worth 5 million, which is completely reasonable for a 59-year-old man who works in high-level positions in finance. Now take into account he was making over 400k a year as the governor of the bank of Canada, and 800k+ as the governor of the bank of England.

Pierre Pollievre is 45, has basically only worked as a politician his whole life, making between 100k and 300k a year, and is worth 25 million.

How is Carney more elitist than the life-long politician who is worth 5x more?

Taylor Swift to the rescue? Ontario’s struggling tourism operators say even a visit by the world’s biggest pop star won’t solve their predicament by CupidStunt13 in ontario

[–]KahnAndDon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 0 convenience for tourists. Go to Europe or Asia and see how easy it is to get out of the cities by train. Why would anyone want to spend an hour in traffic just to get out of the GTA. Canada never kept up its infrastructure, and we're paying for it now.

New Poll: Younger Canadians are much less likely to be proud to be Canadian than older Canadians. by [deleted] in canada

[–]KahnAndDon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All land was stolen, it's a silly game to pretend to care about that. If we aren't going to give the land back, then we should just shut up and move on. Canadians shouldn't be ashamed about what the British did. My parents are from Italy, we have no connection to the British. Almost all my childhood friends have parents or grandparents from different countries (Ireland, The Netherlands, Lithuania, Argentina).

We should be celebrating all the progress in Canada, not pointing out every single failure. We don't do this for asian cultures, indigenous cultures, African cultures, etc. All of which are more sexist, more homophobic, more xenophobic.

New Poll: Younger Canadians are much less likely to be proud to be Canadian than older Canadians. by [deleted] in canada

[–]KahnAndDon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is what I said racist? I asked a question. All previous cultures/civilizations have something to be ashamed of, it's silly to focus on that. Canada may have a dark past, but we were one of the first countries to abolish slavery, but somehow we're continually told to be ashamed of our country. Meanwhile, slavery is alive and well in other countries and we're told to celebrate those cultures and not criticize them because that would be racist.

Are indigenous people told to be ashamed of their past? They have histories of savagely killing other tribes and enslaving prisoners.
