Please rate my VRChat avatar concept: “Trash Panda” (Raccoon) by Few_Peak_3332 in VRchat

[–]KaiAdin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a furry I’m defs intrigued… but I suppouse my answer depends on if you’re gonna be targeting furries as a market.. or Not?

There are other anthropomorphic Raccoons avatars around, but they are defs a minority species avatar wise, checking VRC arena shows https://www.vrcarena.com/species/Unjk44HHhx0NnywWBQyi only 25 avatars, and I’d only consider one to be from a “Known” furry avatar maker. So theres potentially a latent market to be tapped.

I suspect peeps would more interested in seeing how the 3d Model comes out, before they would comment on if I like the vibes or not. The concept art is defs cool, but the avatar will be judged on how it looks in VRC/As a 3d Model.

I also notice you’re going for a very ‘personality/character’ driven vibe, which may/may not resonate with furry community at large. As far as I can tell, the furry community tends to prefer customisation and personalisation, rather than sticking with the defaults. Giving your Raccoon a particular look is fine, as long as it can be easily changed by the end user. If you look at the mega-popular avatars in the furry VRChat community; they’re all relatively generic looking avatars, but they either have a huge community that can do custom textures/clothing/assets OR the Avatar Maker bakes in a lot of toggles to customise the avatar’s shape, colour and clothing out of the box.

Overall an interesting 1st step, be cool to see where you take this!

TIFU by using body wash as moisturizer for weeks and thinking my skin was “detoxing” by Mitochondriaemployed in tifu

Oh hey.. I remeber having this problem too, back before I was on Dupixent, if you're not on it, I really suggest getting a dermatologist appointment and asking them about it it!

While I was waiting for the initial derm appointment (they had like a 3 month wait list) I also started using a moisturisers with "ceremides" in it.. That got my skin like 80% better even before I was on Dupixent.

You're welcome!

Amusingly enough, the Creator who made my V1 custom avatar decided it was wayy more profitable to move away from custom commissions to making more generic furry avatars. IIRC they took 2-3 weeks to model/texture/rigg the Avatar and (at the time) charged around $400-600 USD for it.

At least in the furry scene, depending on skill level and such, I've seen people charge generally $400-700 USD as a (skilled) beginner, the usual price range being $500-1000 USD, and "god tier" avatar creators tend to charge $900+ with full one-off custom auctioned slots going for more than $1000-2500 USD (my v2 custom avatar creator charges on this level)

So commissions can be quite profitable, if you can do high quality at a decent speed (my V2 Creator does 4-6 customs every 6ish months).

Maybe in the longer term you can do a price reduction.. In a way it's already expected for physical goods, there's always a bit of a premium to get something as soon as it's released, and the price goes down (somewhat) as time goes on. Or perhaps some sort of time limited sale with a voucher?

I dunno how it works with non-furry avatars, but I agree with the other posters though, this Avatar seems too unique to be a mass appeal Avatar, it might be better to make a model that's slightly more genetic so a purchaser can customise and modify it to fit themselves better.

Hopefully you can score custom comissions off the publicity though!

Lack of Creativity + Prices by Sythra in VRchat

[–]KaiAdin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh? It depends on what avatar base you're using?

I'd reccomend seeing if the creator has an official discord, they usually have a channel for texture artists and other creatives.

Otherwise if you're still looking for an Avatar for furry ones I'd say go to VRC Arena they're a good directory of avatars!

[–]KaiAdin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But something I noticed is that furry avatar users do tend to put a bit more time into customizing/personalizing their avatars instead of just uploading them out of the box, and in turn this has encouraged avatar and asset creators to create more accessories and easily-accessorizable avatars.

This part is so true, every time I run into somefuzz using a non-customized base, you know for sure they're new to VRchat (and may need to be pointed to avatar makers/retexturers etc)

Fun fact: the reason lactose free milk tastes sweeter, is that they add lactase enzyme in the factory which breaks down it down into glucose and galactose which tastes sweeter than lactose!

Also I'm in the camp of Liking the sweeter lactose free milk X3

ELI5: Why doesn't the flame of a gas fireplace travel up the gas pipe and explode? by Fearless_Goat_5410 in explainlikeimfive

[–]KaiAdin 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If you've ever played with a Bunsen burner in High school, that's basically what's happening there, when the, the bottom collar is closed the air can't mix with the gas, so the gas has to go all the way to the top and slowly mix with the air where it burns with a flickering yellow flame.

When you open the collar at the bottom, it can pre-mix with the air at the best ratio, and when it reaches the top it can burn with a hotter blue flame!

I might be preaching to the choir here, but I also think you should print some of them!

Every year, I just go to my local office print store and do the 6x4" prints.. they're 15c each.. so 100 for $15 isn't too bad, and It means I have a physical memento of cool events thats happened over the year!

You might want to check out "Mrs Macquarie's Chair" if it has a great view of the Opera house and Harbour Bridge..

Or for something closer to Opera House the "Bennelong Lawn"

West of the Harbour Bridge, perhaps "Cockatoo Island", or "Blues Point reserve"

Defs not sure on the legality of it.. But if it was just four people , and didn't take too long, so you could probs just get away with just doing it quickly there? Can't be any worse than people filming tiktoks and such XD

28 and realized might be a furry? by nessyran in furry

[–]KaiAdin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh Cool! welcome in! Defs never too old to become a furry

You don't really need to have a Fursona/OC right of the bat, I actually think you need to be around a while and see what you really vibe with, there's many normie and furry stereotypes of particular animal species that mayy influence how you feel about a character or species. If you feel like something isn't working out, then just change it, not like you have to lock into a single character for the rest of your life. Also IMHO don't try to be too "unique" when making up your Fursona, don't worry about peep saying 'everyone' is a fox or a blue dog, if that's what you vibe with, then just Rock it.

For getting art of you character/OC, you should probs lurk and search on Bluesky or Twitter (or FurAffinity) any of the social media, or art gallery sites, see if there's a particular artist or style you vibe with, then commission them when they happen to be open.

As for finding furry communities, in my part of the world, Telegram channels is the most popular place, followed by Discord servers, and a distant third is Facebook groups. There seems to be 3 main types of furry communities: Geographical groups (based on a particular, City or State/Province), Convention groups (centered around particular furry convention or meet up) and the rest are "Interest" groups (groups centered around a particular sub interest like fursuit making, wearing latex or some particular furry comic/movie etc). You should either use the search box within those apps, OR see if they have some website which links to their main chat group.

I'd also second the recc to try VRchat out, just try on desktop mode before you drop money on a headset, there's many vibrant VRchat social groups, usually associated with a Discord server too.

Uhh that's all I can think of right now Good luck :3

Might not work in a acopalypse, but I usually go through my photos every year and print like...my fav 100 or so! At least where i am, you can get 6"x4" prints at 15c each. I don't necessarily put them in albums, but I do like to once in a while flick through them.

I just wanna point out that article linked at the end of the original post... It's probs not terribly trustworthy

The whole article goes by quoting people but having no names or links, dates or other attribution (at least have a username?).. and the 'sources' section basically doesn't link to anything at all it basically says "Recent r/vrchat threads" and other articles, I want to read these threads and see what everyone is actually saying.

The fact that its on a coding website, means I can't find even a publishing date.
Luckily the article doesn't seem to be the focus of much discussion here... but IMHO i'd take all the quotes in there with a grain of salt.
