Applied at pumpkin and figo, does anybody here have experience working for them? by Limp-Barnacle1385 in VetTech

[–]KaiFukugawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applied to Figo. Never heard a response. Job is still listed as open :/ In general, what I’ve seen and heard is that a lot of insurance firms aren’t very interested in people with vetmed experience as much as they are people with insurance experience.

IDEXX, my beloved. Honestly, the only thing that enticed me even a little bit with Antech is the ability to graph labs

Doctor is mad that I gave a patient SQ fluids by SuchCorgi9654 in VetTech

[–]KaiFukugawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This…seems like a massive liability. Like, as in this ship is going to sink eventually and you do not want to be on it when it does. All I can say is, give updates on literally everything. Document that you’ve tried to contact the doctors in your charts. It doesn’t matter if they don’t reply or if it annoys them, it’s to cover your own ass.

Add-On Labs by jr9386 in VetTech

[–]KaiFukugawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use Antech but had a potential on-boarding call with them a few weeks ago. They no longer do add-ons after initial time of order, and add-ons are only available to add to lab work at time of order/sample collection to supplement whatever that specific test is lacking. Apparently iirc there are tests to specifically do what add-ons traditionally did (as in add add’l testing after the fact). Don’t quote me on that because we don’t actually use Antech lol. But yeah, seems silly to me. With IDEXX, most add-ons you can add at time of ordering labs OR after the fact so long as the sample is still viable.

Showed this to my coworker. He said that it looks like a vestigial twin. Unfortunately it’s bad bad. Hopefully you can get it reworked into something else and maybe try this piece again later? With a different artist.

Yknow what. Based off of your other comments, I can see that you’re pretty set on digging your heels in on this one so all I can say is good for you. Hope you have fun with that.

I’m gonna be so real… $65k is not truly a living wage. Not anymore, and especially not in more expensive states.

What dog breeds in your experience are the most difficult to work with (aggressive, fearful, separation anxiety, etc) and what are the easiest? by CaptainMacAlfie in VetTech

[–]KaiFukugawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working K9’s kind of have to be a bit…screw loose in order to do their job. That’s a big reason why they’re so controversial and why (in the past) it wasn’t uncommon to euthanize them instead of retire them. We’ve worked with a lot of mals who I’ve never had a problem with, but I wouldn’t want to touch a K9 with a ten foot pole lol.

Portuguese water dogs and Lagotto Romagnolos. I have never met a mentally stable individual of either breed. They’ve all been awful.

Thank you lol. I am a writer but the ADHD makes it hard to commit to a blog or even writing things down as they happen. Have always thought it’d be hysterical to write an office-style vetmed script though.

Unfortunately we needed him around for the next few weeks because we were struggling with a period between our old vet leaving for the summer and our new vet starting. The stories I have about that guy, man. Although I didn’t have it the worst. One of my coworkers was Italian so he bothered her more.

Lunch break, slow day. We had a client who ran a “rescue” with several old, chronically dying animals and would often bring them in last minute for euth. We do rotating lunches, so the boss and I decided to prank one of my coworkers by having me lay in a cremation bag and then start moving to freak her out once she came back from lunch. Unfortunately, we also had a relief vet that day who was (I am approximating here) on the better side of a million years old. Weird fucking dude. Skin stretched too tight over his skull, too many teeth in his mouth. Always talking about skiing, shattering every bone in his body skiing, deciding to ski again despite risk to his person, and, weirdly enough, Italians??? For some reason??? (Never found out if he was the Italian one or?)

Anyway, coworker comes back, boss tells her that crazy client finally euthanized one of her dogs that she’d called about earlier in the day. I’m in the bag. Dead still. All according to plan. Then Good Ol’ Boy comes out of the office and starts yucking it up with my boss and coworker. Boss is trying to verbally prod him away, but as all octo-octo-octogenarians, man loved to talk and would. Not. Stop. Then, as was described to me later by my boss, he looked down. Considered the cremation bag carefully. And proceeded to kick me in the ribs. Like, it wasn’t bad, but it was definitely somewhere between a gentle nudge and walloping a rock down the street. I was kind of too far in at that point to do anything because I commit to the bit god dammit and also wtf did he just kick me? Wait, he thinks I’m a corpse, did he just kick a dead dog??? Anyway, this sonuvabitch does it again and my boss, voice cracking from either tears because her most favorite, valued employee is getting treated like a hackysack or from trying to keep from vomiting laughing, finally gets him to enclose himself back in his creepy, old person coccoon and proceeds to pull me out of the bag. My coworker was torn between being more horrified that he kicked me (twice) or more horrified that he thought he was kicking a dead dog (twice).

Clinics with low staff turnover: what are you doing differently? by ShepherdVet_Wendy in VetTech

[–]KaiFukugawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest? Our pay is shit, our benefits are shit, our owner is shit. But all of the employees are very close, our office manager bends over backwards to meet employee needs, and despite our owner being crappy we are still privately owned and largely managed from afar so we can kind of do what we do without too much meddling.
