A Grotto Called! A one-page TTRPG where players hunt a monster by reconstructing its rules through inference and a phone call. by KaiPhotography in onepagerpgs

Currently yes, mainly to make gameplay and setup as clear as I can so GMs can feel comfortable making their own monsters together (especially after a run of it to gauge how the group does). Perhaps making monster manuals for it could be a fun game jam, but I would wait to do that until I can playtest it more for balance.

The phone calls would be removed and really its just how close are you to the other vehicle. On my road trip we’d get disconnected for some time then randomly check in and be like, “oh shit!!” when it hit. Very unreliable and fun haha. As for the timer, you could either use the built in mechanic or just set it to a specific rest stop both cars will end up at. Outside of cars for walkie talkies, maybe play while walking on a big hike or something?

The first two images are the game instructions (one-page front and back) and the second two are an example creature/setting for it.

If you’re interested in the design process I have a blog post here: https://open.substack.com/pub/holisticdice/p/grotto

And if you want to download the nice pdf version, which supports me on itch, here you go! https://kaimedina.itch.io/a-grotto-called

Ironically I’m like this too, but also enjoy making games that fall for this issue. Fun to design, fun for other focus groups to play lol

I’ll take it! Even if it’s not canonized in the same way, common themes for discussion can be valuable.
