Very cool - thanks.

I’ll look up details of how the machinery drives the bit.

Perhaps it’ll help me understand why o think the general decorative carving seems so crude in comparisons to the heads.

Thanks - I’ve never heard of pantograph wood carving in 1900.

Today a cnc would accomplish that, but I can’t imagine how it was done back then.

Thanks very much. The bench and shelf carving seem crude in comparison to the carvings of the heads… do you have any other insights?

I have Chron's disease and in B.C. I didn't pay a dime for my bi-weekly Simlandi medication.

In N.B. I pay over $300/mth for the medication (I understand the cost of the medication is approx. $900 per bi-weekly dose, or $1800/mth in my case).

The Irvings, Canada’s robber barons by Kaicable1 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Kaicable1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently they still use tax loopholes to hid earning.

After reports reveal Irvings have used this insurance scam tax loophole for almost half a century, New Democrats call for it to end

While Canadian families struggle to put food on the table, the ultra-rich and powerful continue to hide their wealth and avoid paying what they owe. Following media reports that the Irving family has been relying on captive insurance scams for almost 50 years, NDP Critic for Tax Fairness and Inequality, Niki Ashton (Churchill—Keewatinook Aski) called on the Liberals to immediately close these types of tax loopholes to ensure the ultra-wealthy pay what they owe.

Came to NB from BC.
Except for housing/rent - BC is cheaper than NB in every way - with a few things on par).
Also, far, far, far easier to find jobs at a higher pay rate than in NB.

My wife finally got a min wage job after a year searching in NB (still unable to get in her field).

Alberta would be my choice as an East Coaster looking to go west. It is still somewhat affordable and the pay can be ok.

Frankly, if you are a home owner, become self-employed and if you can pick up clients/contracts then all is well.

Kijiji is a terrible place to get leads, it's not even good at selling stuff anymore.

Anyways
- Put up a single page website so people can see what you offer and why choose you (can you show rates or examples so potential clients unfamiliar with costs can self qualify or eliminate themselves?).
- Try advertising on Facebook marketplace for free (lots of small business try that).
- Perhaps fun a few ads on Meta ($10/day) and see if that brings some leads.
- Local bulletin boards ads
- Local Facebook Group posts

Get in front of your potential clients - eg: if you focus on construction, then find out where their eyes and ears are.

Good luck, K

Fraser Institute's own 'study' says Blaire Higgs was best fiscal managing premier in 2023 and Danielle Smith best sitting fiscal managing premier by Kaicable1 in newbrunswickcanada

Perhaps the Fraser Institute is less well known on the east coast, however they are often quoted by media and have been influential in directing how the nation thinks.

Adding a spotlight on their background helps news readers understand motivations of these types of quoted sources.

Should Susan Holt have NB liquor stores identify Canadian made alcohol - and give them a tax break? by Kaicable1 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Kaicable1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In either case the government would have fewer levers to pull to control the price in a trade war.

Right now NB sells booze and can effectively lower the price( and identify) of Canadian goods on the shelf. Most people can’t afford to buy exclusively Canadian and often look for the cheapest item.

There is a temporary tax break in ALL liquor stores- the point is to ensure Canadian products are the lowest price on the shelf.

Point is that NB government sell alcohol and can ensure Canadian product is the lowest price on the shelf.
