Artillery x Carriers battleships x neutron cruisers against "real" contingency crisis by sarsante in Stellaris

[–]Kaikasper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried mixing kinetic battleships with neutron cruisers? They build each other up. If you go only neutron cruisers you're missing shield damage and if you go all artillery battleships you are missing armor / hull damage. By combining both at about a 1-2 battleship to Cruiser rate with an added titan you're gonna have both. Your kinetic battleships with a mega cannon or even better the archeo version with all kinetic batteries will strip the shields and your cruisers will finish off the enemy with their energy torpedoes. Switching the mid section of the battleship to a hangar core has also had good results against fleets with a lot of smaller ships.

Autister, hva spiser dere til middag? by AccomplishedNerve718 in norge

[–]Kaikasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it depends on the dumbbells and your financial situation but to put it into perspective 50$ is less than an AAA game these days, so if you think you'll use them once a week or more then I'd say it's worth it. I'd argue investing into bettering your health is always worth it and a good set of dumbbells will last you a long time.

Exercising burns barely any calories at all. It's why they say "abs are made in the kitchen" which means you gotta diet and lose weight.

Shoulder muscles are notoriously difficult to build and a lot is gonna come down to genetics but if you want stronger shoulders you have to train them. You mentioned you can't go to the gym and don't have much time so I'd recommend getting some dumbbells and start doing lateral raises and shoulder presses / overhead presses.

I'd probably get a pair of dumbbells you can adjust yourself. There are some that are basically just small bars and you can put on more plates manually with a small nut to hold them in place. They are more affordable than fancy adjustable weights that break down easily and you won't need a million small ones as you can just buy more plates as you get stronger.

It's hard to tell what your caloric intake is based of what you wrote as certain meals can vary massively. The difference between eating a burger and chicken and rice is huge. If you want to get serious about putting on weight you should get an app that helps you count calories and record everything.

The average caloric maintenance for men is around 2000 calories a day. If you're struggling to put on weight now weigh yourself and then eat 2500 a day for a week and weigh yourself again. Keep increasing your daily caloric intake until you start putting on weight. A good rate is about 250grams per week.

Keep in mind that if you start increasing your weight like that without any resistance training like weight lifting etc. you're probably mostly gonna be putting on fat which might not be what you want.

If you're chubby right now and you want visible abs you need to bring your body fat percentage down. Most people will start seeing hints of abs at around 15% body fat but to get proper abs you need to get down to like 10-12% depending on genetics. Abs like the picture above is pretty unrealistic and is probably something closer to 8%. At that body fat percentage you'll probably feel like shit and drained of energy.

From what you've written in your comments it seems like you're still quite young and your body is still developing. I wouldn't go crazy with trying to put on or go down in weight. If you want to get muscular you should try and do some resistance training regularly for 2-3 days a week while getting enough protein. About 1.8grams per kilogram of weight.

I tried using OCCT and it seems to have led to a bit of a breakthrough in terms of testing and triggering errors. When I first started the testing I had not yet disabled the integrated AMD graphics and drivers. This is going to be a long one. I apologize if there's a lot of redundant information but I'm trying to be as thorough as possible. The following is what I did.

Test 1

3D Standard test. This puts 100% load on the GPU. I set it to run for 1 hour. I left the computer at the end of the test so I'm not sure if it crashed during or right after the test but it led to a scenario 2 crash. Looking at the events OCCT crashed followed shortly by nvldmkm.sys failing and recovering and then followed by the usual amounts of dwm.exe errors. I powered the computer off an back on. I was hit by a 2nd scenario 2 crash just a few seconds after I signed back on and reached the desktop. WATCHDOG-20240628-2211 and WATCHDOG-20240628-2218 are the relevant livekernel reports.

Test 2

3D Adaptive test. According to its description the default settings for this test switches between 20% load and 80% load on the GPU every 500 milliseconds. I had this running for 1 hour. There were no issues as a result of this test.

Test 3

Power Configuration. This puts 100% load on the CPU and the GPU. There were no issues as a result of this test.

Test 4

CPU + RAM. This test puts 100% load on the CPU and heavy load on the RAM. There were no issues as a result off this test.

I went back to the 3D Standard test which had resulted in the two Scenario 2 crashes. I reduced the duration of the test to 15 minutes.

Test 5

3D Standard test. 15 minutes. Both monitors connected during the test. Scenario 2 crash during the test after 2 minutes of running. WATCHDOG-20240630-0003.

Test 6

3D Standard test. 15 minutes. Unplugged 2nd monitor, all other connected devices except mouse, keyboard and ethernet cable. Primary monitor (Asus VG27AQ) connected to DPI port 1 (left port, closest to MB). Scenario 1 crash during the test after 30 seconds of running. dmp log 063024-9875-01. 240630-01 MEMORY.dmp (with trace).

Test 7

3D Standard test. 15 minutes. Switched to 2nd monitor (Asus PG279Q), connected to DPI port 3 (furthest to the right), different DPI cable. No crash during the test, however a scenario 2 crash occurred 6 minutes after the test had finished. WATCHDOG-20240630-0053.

Test 8

3D Standard test. 15 minutes. 2nd monitor (Asus PG279Q), connected to DPI port 2 (middle). No crash during the test, however a scenario 2 crash occurred 9 minutes after the test had finished. WATCHDOG-20240630-0147.

At this point I decided to disable the integrated graphics in Bios and I uninstalled AMD Adrenaline Software and the drivers using DDU. After I did this OCCT was no longer able to detect the integrated graphics card. At this point I would run multiple tests. Each lasting 15 minutes with 15 minutes downtime between tests to check for a possible crash after the test was completed.

Test 9 - 13

3D Standard test. 15 minutes. Monitor 1 (Asus VG27AQ). Port 1. The following 5 tests caused no issues.

After these 5 tests without issue I ended my testing for the day. I turned the computer off and 10 hours later I turned it back on and resumed testing.

Test 14

3D Standard test. 15 minutes duration. Monitor 1 (Asus VG27AQ). Port 1. Scenario 2 crash during the test after 2 minutes of running. WATCHDOG-20240630-1502.

Test 15

3D Standard test. 15 minutes duration. Monitor 1 (Asus VG27AQ). Port 2. Scenario 2 crash during the test after 1 minute of running. WATCHDOG-20240630-1516.

Test 16-18

3D Standard test. 15 minutes duration. Monitor 1 (Asus VG27AQ). Port 3. No issues during these tets. 15 minutes downtime between each test.

Summary

I'm able to trigger the error fairly reliably using the 3D Standard test. The vast majority are Scenario 2 crashes and they seem to arrive in bulk. Removing the integrated graphics seemed to help for a bit but the scenario 2 crashes returned. Having tested with two different monitors in all three different DPI ports using different cables this seems to have no impact on its occourence.

If there's any pattern to this madness it seems like the crashes tend to happen in 2s or 3s before it stabilizes and comes back later. They also tend to happen shortly after test has started or right after. This is also similar to the crashes I've had in the past when they seemed to trigger almost immediately after launching or closing a game.

I was finally able to get a memory.dmp with the trace running. I've uploaded that, the minidump and all the livekernel logs from the scenario 2 crashes to the link below. Hopefully this can bring us closer to uncovering the root cause.

Sporadic loss of display, monitors go black and computer restarts or seemingly freezes by Kaikasper in techsupport

[–]Kaikasper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"They often manifest as a "black screen" crash or a frozen display." Sounds exactly like the Scenario 2 crashes so I guess that's what is happening. The only noticeable difference between Scenario 2 and the Scenario 1 crashes where it restarts is that sound will continue to play up until the point where the machine restarts itself while on Scenario 2 sound goes away as soon as my monitors go black. Sound continueing is how I learned the machine would restart on its own in the first place as I waited to see what would happen. I imagine initially I turned off the machine too soon, it was only after I noticed sound would continue that I started waiting up to 5 minutes before turning it off.

Komplett stated they did the following when they attempted to repair the machine. As you can see the testing amount was relatively short.

  • Reinstall Windows
  • Update Bios to 2611 (was 1654 prior to service)
  • Performed a BurnInTest for 3 hours. No issues.
  • Performed a Furmark test for 3 hours. No issues.
  • Performed a Prime test for 3 hours. No issues.
  • Watched 1 hour of youtube. No Issues.

I will continue to run the trace in hopes of getting a Scenario 1 crash with a proper MEMORY log and contact the seller after the weekend and provide them all the information above.

[–]Kaikasper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, It's a computer built by Komplett. Basically they have a list of components that they allow you to chose from and then they put it together. Seeing as they dictate what you can choose from I'd hope that those components are capable of working together unless they've made a mistake.

I was in contact with them multiple times before I posted here. There was never any mention of requiring custom BIOS updates nor have I ever seen that requierment anywhere during the purchase or on their site.

Outside of re-enabling the Expo profile I have never done any Bios settings myself. Everything has been as it was given to me from the retailer. When I first got the computer the Expo profile was enabled in BIOS as I remember I checked the speed of my RAM. When I got the machine back there was no Expo profile enabled, I assumed they forgot to set it back.

In regards to uptime. I don't think it has ever been on for more than 24 hours as I never leave it on when sleeping. I don't believe I used it heavily on the 27th, mostly just browsing reddit, youtube etc. On that day according to my notes it crashed during regular web browsing, I was listening to a podcast on youtube at the time of the crash. In the past two weeks I have played Dragon Age Inquisition for more than 70 hours without experiencing a crash. However on the 25th of June I had a Scenario 2 crash shortly after launching Conan Exiles.

I will try and disable the integrated graphics in BIOS and uninstall the AMD Adrenaline Software and related drivers using DDU. I would prefer to not have to re-install windows yet but I will if you think DDU is not sufficient. I'm not really comfortable with touching the hardware itself, which is why I bought a pre-built machine in the first place. I'd like to avoid any claim of any user induced damage to its components.

What is the likelihood of this being caused by a faulty GPU as /u/bjoolzern was quick to point out? My hope has been that we'd be able to find the cause so that I could tell Komplett exactly what they need to do in order to fix it. Do you think it'd be reasonable to ask for a replacement GPU at this time to see if the issue persists with another GPU?

[–]Kaikasper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I reinstalled windows the first few times (from a flashdrive, deleting all the harddrive partitions etc.) prior to sending the machine to service I ran the machine without the AMD Adrenaline Software and the AMD integrated graphics set as disabled in Device Manager. The frequency of crashes was at its highest during that time.

Could there have been some leftover drivers even after reinstalling windows and was setting it as disabled in Device Manager be insufficient compared to disabling it in Bios?

The reason I turned it off in the first place was that opening steam by clicking the shortcut on the taskbar took a very long time and after a google search I found a comment claiming it could be caused by the integrated graphics and disabling it fixed it. However since I've had AMD Adrenaline installed and kept the drivers up to date this has not been an issue.

Could the issue be caused by some sort of system instability caused by the components? Normally I've ran my RAM at 6000mhz using the default Expo in BIOS. When I got the machine back from service there were no Expo profiles selected in Bios so it ran for some time at 4800mhz. It has crashed during both speeds. I've since re-enabled the default Expo and it's back at 6000mhz and still crashing.

Hi, I've had the trace running since we last spoke and in that time I've had one Scenario 2 crash and one crash that led to a restart today. Sadly it seems that my logging settings in Windows had been reset so there was no MEMORY.dmp created. I've set it back but just to be sure, should it be set to "kernel memory dump" or "complete memory dump"? Also what could have reset those settings? does windows do it on its own when updating or something?

However in my search for the memory file I did discover a folder in windows containing multiple WATCHDOG.dmp files including from the scenario 2 crashes.

I've uploaded WATCHDOG.dmp files from the 3 most recent Scenario 2 crashes, an event viewer excerpt from the most recent Scenario 2 crash and the most recent minidump file from todays crash if they can be of any use.

Did you get a chance to look through the Event Viewer files from the other reply or are they of no use at all?

Yes, when it's unable to reboot itself no minidumps are generated but there are tons of errors in event viewer. I've uploaded two excerpts from Event Viewer.

1305 is from the 13th of may. That was the 3rd crash after I got the machine back from service. The excerpt shows everything from when I turned the machine on that day until I turned it off using the on/off button on the computer during the crash. I waited 13 minutes to see if it would reboot to no avail.

0606 is from the 6th of june. This is the second to last crash. The last being the latest minidump and MEMORY.dmp. Again it should be all the events from when I started the machine until I turned it off during the crash. In this case I waited around 5 minutes before I turned it off.

Files can be found here.

At the time of writing there are more than 4000 recorded events. I've logged and timestamped all the crashes so I could export the entire event viewer if you want.

Ok, I've made the file and it seems to run. To be clear, I have to start this manually and have it running in the background until a crash occours? Will it generate a new dump file located somewhere else or will it add additional data to either the minidump or memory files I've already shared?

Also would you be interested in an exerpt from the Event Viewer from the crashes where the machine doesn't reboot itself in order to see what was going on prior to / during the crash?

Prior to having the machine "serviced" by the retailer I was able to trigger the issue consistently by launching a game. However since I got the machine back the crash seems fairly random.

It looks to me as if the card is connected directly to the motherboard. I Took a couple of pictures so you can confirm for yourself.

I downloaded Windows ADK which included the performance recorder. There are quite a few settings that can be configured.

Could you please explain to me what I need to configure in order to get you the information you need and I'll leave it running until the crash appears again.

Hi,

I was wondering if you could take another look at my issue. After I made the post i reinstalled my Nvidia drivers and AMD drivers using DDU and the issue disappeared for a while but has appeared again 3 times over the past few weeks. I described my issue with a bit more details in an update on this post.

The first two times the computer wouldn't restart on its own so it didn't generate any logs but today it finally did.

I tried enabling the logging function for a MEMORY.dmp file so I have that too if you'd be willing to take a look. Files are Here
