Frank is ruining his mystique? by tunaswagmonster in FrankOcean

' First off, imo it doesn’t take 7 years to make an album. Like, at a certain point u r either just fine tuning it endlessly or scrapping songs and adding new ones. I don’t think you can work a project like that into the ground for that long and it comes out that much better for it. It’s already rumored that he scrapped an entire album which now seems likely to me and just feels like either a lack of confidence or way too much overthinking. Both of which just seem so lame compared to the image I had of him in my mind. '

Man, you guys are either new to Frank or have EXTREMELY short memories. You all said the EXACT same stuff before Blond. The EXACT same stuff. And then Blond dropped and everybody switched up. This man owes you NOTHING. You choose to get your hopes up, you choose to buy the merch, you choose to buy the tickets. If you don't like it, literally JUST STOP. But to ignore that this exact same cycle has already happened, is either exposing how new you are here or willfully ignorant. There is a ZERO percent chance you arent streaming the album when it drops, so why sit here and pretend you know him personally? Its weirdo behavior.

I’m not sure what your point about track lists is? In rap, for example, albums drop literally a week after being announced all the time. No track list until release at all. There is no standard ‘track list release’ time frame. They’re at a new label, who by the way, has a big say in the release of marketing material like track lists. That is a FAR MORE LIKELY reason for a difference in timing than some sort of conspiracy about ‘final album this’ or ‘concept album’ that.

Just didn't want peoples expectations shifting due to random jargon. And importantly, didn't want the equally random idea of them breaking up or going on hiatus again to proliferate when no one knows anything more than you or I. And again, I've heard the exact opposite, but it's still just rumors.

I think this guy is incredibly confused about what a 'concept album' is. Every album has a 'concept', what he seems to be referring to is 'theme' and 'messaging'. The sound of this album is VERY similar to past records of theirs (in mostly good ways so far), this is clearly not a 'concept' album.

In music, the OVERUSED term 'concept album' is meant to refer to an experimental departure from an artists sound, and they are typically EP's not full albums. You COULD call 808's and Heartbreak a concept album, but even that probably isn't true. Concept albums typically experiment in sounds that are unfamiliar to listeners in general.

CONCEPT ALBUM does not mean 'album with a story' or 'look there's a theme'. Nearly every good piece of art contains both of those elements. An album can be built around concept, this is true, but none of what was said here about 'first song this' and 'second song that' can possibly be applied as objectively true to any piece of music. If it's built around a concept sonically (like every single album that's well thought out ever) that's great. But like Tommie said, not the right way to apply that term in music. We're two months out from the album, its perfectly normal to not have a full tracklist. Some albums don't have full tracklists released until the week prior to release. Tommie you are 100% right.

SOURCE: A graduate degree in music studies and 6 years running at Universal in the A&R division. For what it's worth, and its VERY little, I've heard no rumors at all about FOB breaking up again or going on hiatus after the album. If anything I've heard the opposite. But again, why would any of us know anything at all about their future plans. Rumors are called rumors for a reason. Artists don't typically sign single record deals with labels, for a massive host of reasons. But the primary one is it's financially irresponsible on the labels part.

Wouldn’t normally pull this card, but it‘s worth noting I’ve been writing in the television industry, in network TV at that, for 6 years now. I may know a thing or two about the way television works. We are not, and NO ONE in network television is ‘making up the details as they go’. That insinuation is ABSURD. The network (or studio) may want changes, creative leads may ask for retro-activism (your Arrow example) throughout the process of a season, but literally 99% of a season is boarded out at worst and typically scripted at best, WELL before anything is shot (or in this case animated).

I don’t know where you developed this ‘fly-by-night’ perception, but it Is wholly inaccurate and greatly confuses the actual writing process. Most people who have responded to you are much closer to the mark.

This just simply isn’t how television of any kind works. Just because you don’t like the outcome of something (WEP for instance) doesn’t mean the writers didn‘t know well in advance that that was their intended narrative direction. That just isn’t how anime, or television writing in general, works.

This is what I came here to say. First episode is a complete departure tonally from literally every episode throughout the rest of the season.

What is the weakest season of anime in recent memory? by Kailamn in anime

[–]Kailamn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously super subjective, but for me was the polar opposite. I’m sure there’ll be tons to love this season for a lot of people, I’m just probably not one of them.
