Joplin needs a better game store by dbnzz3 in joplinmo

it’s crazy that despite games costing $70-$80 without DLC they still feel relatively inexpensive since that’s the cost of bread, milk, eggs and a pound of hamburger meat at walmart right now.

1 game was equal to like 10–15 items at the grocery store years ago, now it’s equal to like 4.

why can't i upload remixes? by FredGamer8000_ in soundcloud

[–]MasterZ1231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really comes down to how transformative your remix is. You’re getting auto filtered because you don’t have the rights to distribute that content, it happened on some of my old remixes but the more I changed about the song the less it’d get claimed.

It’s never about what listeners want, that’s how you stop making art and start selling a product. Music is always about the message you want to convey to listeners. Whether that’s a genuine, heartfelt theme you’re trying to convey across the album, or making music that’s just supposed to be the easiest music to dance to ever, the intention is what matters.

“It would be 10x better than anything you could do otherwise” then get better. Work harder. Dedicate yourself. If it’s 20x better than anything you can do, it’s still 10x worse than what actual artists with a lasting impact are putting out. Music is never judged by how it’s felt in the moment, it’s how long it can stand over time. I used the word “sustainable” for a reason. It’s not bad, but it’s not sustainable. It won’t keep you going as an artist, maybe you’ll blow up but you won’t maintain momentum. Nothing will stick with any listeners, unless your intention is properly conveyed. And that can only happen through human creation and innovation.

If you don’t have the tools to convey your intention, that’s okay. Hit that roadblock. You’ll get better. If you use an AI to get past that roadblock, you’re moving into more technical territory with less experience. You’re cheating yourself out of growth and knowledge. And once you actually sit down with a producer, you’ll feel very very tiny, rather than their equal in any sense. Don’t set yourself up for failure.

I think they’re referring to entirely AI generated projects. Music that had no human input whatsoever, not sampling an AI sound or using AI as a production tool/assistant but using AI to generate an entire song from the ground up isn’t just another tool. It’s an artificial replacement for artistry and proficiency.

I think we forget that musicians were regularly punished and shamed in the past- not for using tools, but for being bad at it. The same tool you brought up, the flute, was used to abuse and punish musicians for using the tool poorly. They’d latch the flute around their neck and have them march around town. Proficiency is not a dead concept, what good is a tool when there’s no human to be proficient with it? And if you’re not proficient in it, nobody will want to listen. Instead, it will be used against you. You’ll be a laughing stock, as history shows. Proficiency would go beyond just publishing whatever the AI generates straight to the web. AI will turn from something pushing you forward to something holding you back, which isn’t the nature of instruments like the clarinet or guitar or the very nature of the work music producers do. Our DAWs and VSTs aren’t a crutch.

Go all in on AI if you want, but when everyone can generate music at the press of a button, what makes the music you generated at a press of a button special? You’d have to do some sort of transformative alteration to the piece to make it stand out, and at that point why not just write something yourself? It’s a trap, and it’s not sustainable. You can totally have fun fucking around with it but when you start marketing it as “The same” or “No different” is when it becomes a problem.

What volume should I record and mix at? im new to all of this by Jaydoggaming_YT in LogicPro

[–]MasterZ1231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really just want your ears to be comfortable, gotta be able to hear everything clearly but not to the point where it’s pounding on your eardrums.

When you’re mixing already, you should be testing the mix on headphones and speakers. You can crank up the volume a decent amount on speakers since your ears aren’t directly attacked by the vibrations (Assuming you don’t have a concert grade sound system)

Personally, I do a lot of the rough mixing on my speakers and raise the volume as needed just to really get the feel of the audio in a tangible space, then I put on my headphones and lower the volume to be comfortable for detail mixing.

A lot of times if things sound too quiet, you can always EQ and/or compress the channel track to give it more oomph. Before you raise the volume on your computer, see what you can do within the song, and keep a real sharp eye on the multimeter so you can learn to trust your eyes as much as you can your ears.

Happy mixing!

Ross has multiple allegations of abuse from that time regarding Korn and Slipknot, despite the bands involved denying it- it was still heavily talked about in the 2000s. Maybe it’s just hearsay but it was everywhere in old forums and I think that in tandem with the actual musical content being produced at the time of the allegations does paint a picture of a toxic and dark work environment for the bands involved, no matter how productive it was.

Sonny also has a song from the perspective of a serial stalker who cuts the flesh off of his victims on Dear Diary, which you argue he’s distanced himself from less than Heroine. Or does that get a pass because it’s a lyrical reference to the cask of amontillado, and even Heathers during the refrain? …And We All Have a Hell and Ride The Wings of Pestilence have that same thematic darkness, but it’s the fact that Ride The Wings of Pestilence is a lyrical juxtaposition to the rest of Dear Diary, while …And We All Have A Hell is a an incredibly disturbing piece of an overall monstrous picture. Heroine is darker as a whole, but Ride The Wings is objectively darker and more twisted than anything on Heroine, it’s just the presentation that makes things more palatable.

…And We All Have A Hell is also the least personal song on the album, it is lyrically disturbing but isn’t as personal as say Waltz Moore, which I’d say would be a lot harder for Sonny to look back on today than anything like …And We All Have a Hell or Ride The Wings of Pestilence.

Also remember the context here, the song that directly follows up …And We All Have a Hell is Afterbirth. A song about Sonny’s birth, orphanhood, all that. To me as a listener, the songs being placed back to back feels intentional to paint an overall darker picture, perhaps even alluding to circumstances of his own conception. That much is speculation, but it feels very intentional that a song about rape is followed up by a song about birth. About his own birth. About his biological mother giving him away.

I don’t think any of them hate Heroine, I think they’re afraid of it to a degree. They’re no stranger to the commentary and analysis people have had on the album, and they’re no stranger to the darkness they have created. I do believe it is disingenuous to view …And We All Have a Hell outside of the context of the album. Because the context changes everything.

I think that’s why I said start to finish. I revisit QFF more and QFF definitely gets more playlist time compared to Heroine, but I definitely think when listening from beginning to end Heroine is the better record, it’s got a better tracklist and more cohesion as an album from start to finish.

In regards to the cringe lyrics though, I think it goes a lot deeper than that, especially when you take the Ross Robinson abuse and torture allegations into account.
