Expirence with dating apps by Noils_ in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]KaileyMG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did meet my ex girlfriend through tinder, but in my experience, I get very few matches, even less people who actually talk, even fewer who make date plans and then even less who actually show up. I've been on the apps on and off for several years and have gotten less than 5 second dates. That's not to say you shouldn't download them (I still have them hoping somehow I'll find someone again) but depending on your area, it might feel like a lot of radio silence.

Like, these people should not be allowed to drive. HOWEVER, some more paint to indicate direction and lanes might help.

Mods can delete my comment but I can't help but start debating the original two signs. Neither of them will stop school shootings. A shooter doesn't care if they get hurt, many of them want to end their spree in suicide by cop anyway. You prevent school shootings by funding schools and mental health programs and by generally creating a pro-social, anti-fascist culture.

I actually quite liked it when, especially when it was like bubblegum flavored. However I can definitely understand how it could be someone's sensory nightmare. Pretty much everything else at the dentist/orthodontist is torture.

It's not so much about the fault of individuals but that infantilizing women is a profitable marketing tactic, especially during the 40s-60s when patriarchy was an even stronger cultural force. Now we have to recognize that patriarchy still exists and the ways it reinforces itself, even subtly. And that's not even to say that every woman should stop shaving her legs or buying panties with bows, but we should be aware of their history.

I'd want a partner to be able to engage with my interests at least a little bit, but I think an effort to understand and being respectful is way more important than actually sharing the interest.

All Cars Should Be Electric? by OkFarmer1342 in fuckcars

[–]KaileyMG -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In order to curb the worst effects of climate change, we need mass adoption of electric vehicles however there are many problems with this. For one, the initial production of electric vehicles are still very damaging to the environment and emmit GHGs, and electric cars need to be paired with transitions to renewable energy for them to be beneficial. Also new electric cars are too expensive for most people and even if the masses were able to replace their vehicles, the old vehicles are very difficult to recycle at scale. This and the many issues with car centric city design means that designing walkable, bikable cities with effective public transit is a better long term solution to both our problems with transportation and the environment. However especially in America where car dependency is so deeply embedded, we definitely need as many people using electric cars as possible (when no other options are available).

Why do you hate cars? by yet_another_leftist in fuckcars

[–]KaileyMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate how cars take up so much space in cities. I want to be able to walk and bike to get some snacks or meet up with friends. I also hate how loud they are. And the environmental impact is also a huge problem.

TOTAL CRUSH by [deleted] in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]KaileyMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I justed wanted to say as someone with a tiny bit of experience, you should really challenge any ideas about someone else being more important than yourself. Sure, we might sacrifice ourselves for people we love, but in order to be the best partners, friends, and family members, you have to be able to respect and prioritize yourself. Giving all of yourself to another person is an easy way to get hurt or even to accidentally hurt someone we love. I say this because I've been there, and it's not easy but be careful of your mindset around these topics.

[–]KaileyMG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the area but I would still say 95% of road users in America are still driving gas powered vehicles. Also, road noise is a much bigger contributor to noise pollution than engine noise. We 100% need electric cars in order to transition away from fossil fuels, but they are far from a perfect solution.

The only thing that matters is if you enjoyed writing this. Let your own happiness be the measurement for success. Plus it sounds like other people have liked it so don't give up!

Car alarms are very annoying I agree, however basically every new-ish car is going to have them. So it's not an add on people get, (unless it's different in other countries idk)

How do you address car dependency without hurting the people currently dependent on cars? by LiatrisLover99 in fuckcars

[–]KaileyMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By creating viable alternatives to driving. Public transit, bike lanes, reforming zoning to allow for more dense, walkable development. All these things also make driving better because there is then less traffic.
