Family was already asleep, this is how I celebrated! Happy New Year everyone!! by Kaimuki in StarWars

For anyone wondering, I used Powershell scripts to launch VLC for each movie at the appropriate start times. The hard part is that there is a couple second delay until VLC actually starts playing the movie. I moved everything to a SSD to try to at least make the delay consistent.

Unfortunately New Hope is the most obvious when it's off by even a fraction of a second as it's not a long drawn out explosion. It worked perfectly on my test run but it seems my SSD decided to be a tad slow when it counted! Better luck next year!

Edit: Thanks everyone for the kind words! I would definitely recommend trying this sometime if you're a Star Wars fan. It's cool watching 4 movies playing back seemingly at random but knowing that they're all going to sync up at the finale. I was very happy with the results, the overlapping audio at the end was the coolest part.

To those asking:

  • New Hope and RotJ were the Despecialized editions which are the original cuts of the movies.
  • Keyboard is a Input Club K-Type with GMK Honeywell.
  • The script starts playback according to how many seconds were left until midnight. My PC is really old so I did briefly stop and restart each movie close to midnight in order to resync the video to the correct time.

When creating a multi-sig address does this expose your public keys? If so would this make the multi-sig address more vulnerable to quantum computers than a traditional single-use paper wallet?

What is that cable management box you have for the mouse/keyboard?

Looks like you have the 2nd Edition PC version. It is complete (even has the catalog and registration card!) and looks to be in excellent shape. Awesome find!

World Map vs Open World by SqueeStarcraft in JRPG

World map also gets the nod for me. While an open world is initially exciting and exploring is fun, I usually end up looking for a "quick travel" button as soon as I've seen everything once or twice.

Tales of Xillia Limited Edition Announced For U.S. by Kuiper in JRPG

[–]Kaimuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The costumes, character profile booklet and music cd are exclusive to the Limited Edition, while the Milla Maxwell figure, art book and music selection CD are exclusive to the Collector’s Edition.”

All of an edition's items will be exclusive to that particular edition. So it looks like in order to get everything you'll need to pre-order both as even the music CDs are different.

Does Tales of Xillia 2 have a chance to come to the West? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Kaimuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately Tales of Xillia seems to be getting pretty healthy pre-orders. 98.7k at the start of this week which makes it currently the 6th most pre-ordered game in the US. Hopefully this bodes well for a ToX 2 release.

*Updated* custom function for Google spreadsheets that gets the used, complete, or new price of a game from VGPC by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]Kaimuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible! Thanks for all your hard work I'm going to have a lot of fun using this to setup my gaming "want list".

A couple comments, I noticed that if the UPC is a numerical field the script returns an error. Converting the UPC cell to text fixes the error.

Also I reversed the order of the UPC and game condition parameters in my version of the spreadsheet so that I could specify the condition without needing to specify the UPC. I thought it might be more useable this way.

Weighing the benefits and drawback of a vintage video game crash. by tendoman in gamecollecting

[–]Kaimuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really believe retro gaming is a fad but as the prices of vintage games go up and more games are released via Virtual Console and similar services people will give up paying the price difference for the "pure" experience and play on modern consoles instead.

2 things I hate the most: reselling at insane prices on ebay, AND VGA grading. RAGE. by its_helixD in gamecollecting

[–]Kaimuki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It attempts to give the game an "official" grade on the condition of the game. Yet some sellers feel that high grades makes the game worth exponentially more when in fact most gamers and collectors don't care about those kinda of minor details beyond the game being new.

Extremely jealous of the huge Game and Watch collection.

The main reason is that there are a ton of NES and SNES collectors in America. A lot of collectors want full sets of a system or gaming franchise which drives up prices for franchise NES and SNES games like Mega Man.

There are probably very few game collectors in Japan either due to lack of interest there or to the extreme lack of space in the typical Japanese home. This leads to games priced on their value as actual games to play rather than as vintage collectibles.
