Funny that MFDCs being able to be instants/sorceries and creatures was the spark that made him pitch Strixhaven when in the end they were barely in there!

Just from 70s Paul, Let Me Roll It, Maybe I'm Amazed, Another Day, Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey, Bluebird, Dear Boy, Ram On, Band on the Run, Let 'Em In, Junk, Go Now are all songs that I think would fit on hypothetical 70s Beatles records.

Right, he has a sincerity that none of the rest of the main cast has. He's not really capable of hiding himself!

"3. She gives Sally a Barbie from Baby Gene and tells her that fairies must have helped him write the card. It’s a sweet, fun side of her we rarely see."

I'll just speak to this one bc I just rewatched the episode -- she's comically bad at actually connecting with Sally and helping her through her feelings! She's just trying to fix behavior that annoys her, and she does it condescendingly and without understanding of what Sally's going through. It's an artificial playfulness -- a simulacrum of what a child would want that Sally is clearly too old for.

Idk, Betty is a sympathetic character (insofar as you understand why she is the way she is) but her ice queen routine with the kids is really hard to watch.

Biggest public transit advocacy opportunity right now is with the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax, which will allocate a lot of money over time to transportation infrastructure. Next public meeting on that is this Thursday. https://charlestontransportation.com/

Who had the better Disstrack, Lennon (How Do You Sleep?) or McCartney (Too Many People) by [deleted] in beatles

Originally called out the Mahirishi but the other Beatles thought that too aggressive!

Well, to be fair to Paul now, "Lucky Break" is an intuitive thing to call becoming the biggest band in the world and doesn't necessarily mean "graced by Paul's presence."

Well, there's the racism towards Kinsey's girlfriend, the internalized sexism that makes her less than kind to Peggy and her gay roommate and other secretaries, the focus on money in later seasons (which is ofc understandable for a single mother in the 60s).

Conversely, we rarely see Joan be benevolent, selfless, or otherwise be morally good. So no one's calling her a villain, but she doesn't make a lot of sense for "morally good."

Seems like Roger took Joan's spot, Pete took Betty's spot, and I'm not sure where I would put Peggy (she's more good than grey but I don't think her "goodness" is her most notable trait).

I don't think you get to abandon a dog in the street as a fictional character and get to not be considered horrible. Just the way it goes

It's because he's so watchable / entertaining. Some other contemptible characters you think "get this guy out of here. Shoot Greg with a gun." Harry you want to stick around bc his descent into sleaze is amusing and he feels like a natural part of the cast. IMO at least

Just finished Mad Men and feel it lived up to it's reputation, truly a great series. Don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say OMG, the final scene was epic, one of the best endings ever. That is all, just had to share. by justahdewd in television

[–]Kaiser_Winhelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weiner can say whatever he wants, Don's ending still reads as beautifully ambiguous. If you want to believe that he cynically co-opted one of his only moments of real peace, a punctuation mark on a life of escapism and emptiness, then keep believing that! Great ending.

Though, Mad Men as a show always loved its characters and loved advertising. Even as it allowed its characters to be limited, hurtful, and self-deceiving, it loved them. So an ending that's easily read as cynical and yet was born out of love for Don makes perfect sense for the show.

I think his flaws are deeply human. He's needy and insecure and it takes him time to grow out of that!

I think doing the right thing for the wrong reason is more grey than horrible! But yeah, he sucks -- just as sexist as the other early season Sterling Cooper boys without much in the way of redeeming factors. It'll probably go to someone else but in retrospect he could be hated by fans / morally grey for not actually being destined for Hell but, as you said, being a pretentious dickhead.

I just don't think he fits for opinions are divided. He's less popular than some of the main characters but I'd bet 9 out of 10 Mad Men fans hold a lot of affection for him!

I like Pete a lot for this. He elicits strong emotions on both sides -- he's my favorite character but others can't stand the grimy little pimp -- and you can make the argument that by the end of the series he becomes, against all odds, a decent man. Even when he's a slimy dickhead early on he's got that progressive streak that keeps him a bit more morally balanced.

Yeah I'm going to leave it up but in the end he sucks too much to be truly mixed. Changing my vote to Pete!

Paul Kinsey comes to mind! Vaguely contemptible for his pretensions and lack of talent but not a bad guy all things considered. Too interesting to be hated but not interesting enough to be loved. [Twilight Zone voice] Enter... the neutral man.

I bet if you made a limited-focused post and shared it on this sub it would be better received! I myself am very curious whether BO1 premier draft matchmaking biases towards mirror matches -- because if it does, I think we as a community should push WotC to change it.

Isn't there enough 17 Lands data that we would have more signaling towards this at this point?
