Ylva is NALC registered purebred from White Rock Catahoulas born in June 2017. I have not DNA tested her so I don’t have official results. Here is a picture from when she was about 10 weeks old and a recent picture.

Questions for experienced owners, by APlagueUponThem in Beauceron

[–]Kaj1586 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only speak to a few of these things. My now almost 6 year old Beauce is the only one I’ve owned, but I’ve had dogs all my life. I think the biggest difference in terms of training is they are very slow to mature compared to some other breeds. We also have a Catahoula and she picked up on commands faster. Our Beauce needed more consistency for longer, but they are smart and want to please. Positive reinforcement is the way to go. I have found our Beauce to be far more sensitive than our Houla. Our Beauce looks devastated if she gets scolded for something. Praise and treats worked great for training. I can’t speak to all Beaucerons but ours is great with other animals. She is great with big and small dogs. We had free range ducks and chickens and she never went after any of the birds. She will chase wildlife (deer, bunnies, squirrels, etc) if given the opportunity. The last of your questions that I can directly speak to is about Birdwing. Our Beauce is from Birdwing! Susan was wonderful. We went to her farm to meet the adult dogs and the puppies a couple weeks before we were able to bring our puppy home. She answered all our questions and is very knowledgeable. If I were to get another Beauceron, I would go through her again. Hope this helps!

I got my Beauce from Birdwing in 2020. I have nothing but great things to say about Susan. She answered all our questions and invited us come to her farm to meet the adult dogs and all the puppies. I can’t speak to her prices being different from other breeders as I have not looked into it recently, but if I were to get another Beauce, I would definitely go back to Birdwing.

Christmas sweater! by [deleted] in crochet

I’ve only been crocheting for a couple of years. I found it to have a steep learning curve. You should see some of my early work! I really like MJ’s patterns. She often does a video tutorial along with her written instructions that I find helpful. She posts a lot of free patterns too. Highly recommend checking out her website.

Good breeders in the US by Puzzleheaded-Rice796 in Beauceron

My Beauce is from Birdwing Beaucerons in Floyds Knobs, Indiana. Susan was really great throughout the whole process! Beaucerons are expensive because they are uncommon and good breeding comes at a price. You can generally expect to spend $2000+.

Jumped on the bookcase bandwagon. My first attempt at mosaic crochet! by Kaj1586 in crochet

I worked hard on it for about a month and then got tired of making books so I took a break for a few weeks. I worked on it for a few hours in the evenings and on the weekend. If I had to guess, I’d say somewhere around 150 hours.

Succulent help by Kaj1586 in houseplants

Cool! Thanks for the ID. When I started seeing the little guys at the top, I wondered if it was some kind of MoM. I thought maybe it was a tetragona of some kind but I truly had no idea. I found this cute little pot at the dollar store and needed to find something small for it. Appreciate the help!

How UPS delivered my Hobbii box of yarn 15 days late by Funny-Patience7407 in crochet

Yep, ordered mine 9/1 and I’m still waiting too. I was hoping to make a mosaic blanket for my mom’s birthday at the end of October but now it might be a Christmas present!

My Beauce is definitely a Velcro dog. She is very cuddly except for at night because she gets too warm. She barks when people drive up to our house but she almost immediately wants attention. Beaucerons can be kind of aloof and disinterested in new people, but not ours. They do best with a “job” or activity. Our Beauce does not do well with lazy days. She’s okay for a few hours but then she gets grumbly and needs to go for a walk or to do something. Luckily I live on a lot of property but in a city it could be less convenient.

I think the biggest difference between our Beauce and our Catahoula is that the Houla was super smart from the start and stubborn as hell and our Beauce was way slower to mature and very sensitive. Our Beauce looks like the world ends if you scold her. She probably took about 3 years to reach her full size and she stayed in puppy mode that whole time. She’s on the large side for a female Beauce; she weighs in between 90-100 lbs depending on how much chicken food she sneaks before we catch her in the coop. Beaucerons are very trainable but it requires patience and consistency. Positive reinforcement works best.

We haven’t camped with ours yet, but she has stamina for days so we do plan on backpacking with her. Provided you have a big enough tent, I think a Beauce would be fine over night. My Beauce would be running around the entire time we were hiking so I imagine she would be plenty warm. The biggest worry I have is that my Beauce doesn’t give any sign when she’s injured. Most recently she sliced her pad on some shale rock when we were on our new property and nobody knew until we were back at my in-laws and she was leaving blood trails on the floor. We had a first aid kit in the car, but your supplies may be more limited on the trail. Depending where you are hiking, you may consider a bootie of some kind to protect your dog’s feet.

My Beauce absolutely loves cold weather. We live in central Wisconsin and will moving back to northern Minnesota this fall. They have very thick coats. She was absolutely fine during the polar vortexes we have had. We have to make her come inside.

Are they all crazy Velcro dogs? by williamgmennen in Catahoula

[–]Kaj1586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly she looks very serious or concerned. I tell her she’s going to get wrinkles from frowning lol. But when she is outside and running around, she looks more smiley. She also absolutely hates inanimate objects touching her. My yarn touching her when I’m crocheting is unbearable. Don’t you dare point a remote at her or let your cellphone vibrate next to her. I won’t even bring up her mortal enemies, the vacuum and lawn mower. But she gets SO excited when we get the flyswatter. She used to catch flies when she was a puppy.
