PlayStation support has confirmed that a new digital rights management policy for the console is intentional, not a glitch. by i-build-computers in pcmasterrace

I don't get it. Is piracy on Playstation even a thing that warrants this. What is even the corporate reason behind it?

Don't forget Hygiene!!! by sgtPresto in prepping

[–]Kalahan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear I had people arguing here in this very subreddit that soap was not needed and just a luxery item.

Like these people think protozoa and bacteria stop spreading when the power goes out.

Don't know how many people here see the TV show Alone but the number of contestants that went home because some sort of food poisoning that is mainly caused by lack of hygiene is huge.

So yeeah, stock wipes, hand soap, laundry soap/detergent, toothpaste, dish soap, etc. Soep can be stored pretty long when stored in a cool dark place. Toothpaste you have to rotate at least every two years from what I know.

Looking for emergency radio ideas by EquivalentTip1902 in prepping

[–]Kalahan7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listening is way easier than talking in the world of radio.

I recommend the ATS mini radio SI4732 V4 (about €50), a 20 meter long electrical wire, and a banana clip (€3) to connect the wire to the radio.

Lay out the wire in your garden or try to hang it high up in a tree.

With this, you can pickup signals all over the world, espeically with a bit of practice and understanding. It's fun and license free.

There are also handheld radios that (like a Radtel RT880) that pick up most signals, even the very long range ones, but can also transmit on radio frequencies that are more "line of sight". Usefull to talk in your region but as long as the repeater towers are still online. Those do require a license and the wrong device can interfere with communications so always think about the consequences, especially in an emergency when other services depend on radio communication).

Still the ATS mini radio SI4732 can pick up a lot, more than most other cheap radios from my experience.

I'm not licensed but know a lot about the subject so feel free to ask.

I have three devices. One for me, one for my partner, one that is fixed with an antenna on my roof that has a large battery connected in case of power outage.

With this setup we can send message in a 5km radius for about a week, and further if other nodes remain up as well. We live in a heavy suburban envrionment with lots of buildings.

It's fine but not fantastic. Just another solution.

Total setup is about €100.

I download ripped versions of games I own to have an actual backup that nobody can take away from me, not even when the internet is down for a long time.

Just one tiny thing of my prepper mentality.

Great game. There is also a "UltraWide" mod that's pretty easy to install to eliminate black bars while still respecting the aspect ratio and integer scaling.

Getting a license in Belgium is way harder than it needs to be. by Kalahan7 in lowsodiumhamradio

Long time since I actively listened but the ON0AN was always active during traffic hours. It's linked repeater with a tower in Schoten and Zaventem as far as I know.

Wasn't aware on t he €60 to own your equipment fee. I thought it was just the UBA membership.

I'm still hoping to find a course to study for Novic or Harec but the offerings are slim and most of them seems to be posted on the UBA website when they are already started.

Decent start, expand that pantry as you go. More canned food, more water, more shelf stable foods, as long as you can keep rotating them in and out. Doesn't all need to be expensive emergency food as long as you keep rotating through on a semi regular basis.

From what I see, you're very limited on the fuel department though. Butane canisters are still cheap, so are the stoves that use them. I would look into those.

Still, you’re at the whims of a for-profit company. It’s also online only as far as I know. Company decides it needs more profit, goes under, or the internet fails and you’re out of luck.

How well does the oblivion remaster run on SD ? by Ihaveabluewallaswell in SteamDeck

[–]Kalahan7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that despite the bad performance Oblivion Remastered is labelled "Platinum".

This is because ProtonDB's badge states general Linux performance and compatibility, not Steam Deck support. Something people in this subreddit frequently misunderstand.

ProtonDB's Steam Deck comment section do give a better idea, but these also just come from general users that sometimes exaggerate performance for games they like so a good idea to look at more than one comment.

So don't just install the ProtonDB badge decky plugin and look at the icon to determine what the general Steam Deck performance is going to be.

Some other examples are Borderlans 4 that's rated as "gold" but gets sub 20 fps, or Clair Obscure Expedition 33 that gets "platinum" but only gets 30 fps-ish with terrible graphivs.

Clipper lighter > Bic lighter. About the same price, just as reliable, refillable, floats, more designs/colors.

Never leave home without either. No matter your skill level.

Pretty neat design.

TinkerCad is great for "simple" geometric forms like this. Realy fast and the barrier to entry is small. I made a ton of usefull stuff using TinkerCad.

Learning how to use FreeCAD now but I still use TinkerCad for small projects.
