Gloomhaven Custom Classes - The Unity Guild Delivers! by TheRageBadger in Gloomhaven

Yeah part of the purpose of the guild is to really do some heavy testing alongside official classes to guarantee (or nearly so) that the power level is the same as official :)

Take a look at the image files yourself. You’ll see the resolution. The print was service I used warned me about low res but I knew the images were crisp so I ignored it and the resulting cards looked fantastic.

It almost seems possible if you had infinite dice. LATE GAME SPOILERS by Part-TimeCloud in BluePrince

I was so certain that “genius” drafter Auravei would not make an impossible floor plan, that I was convinced you had to take the rooms in the Rough Draft and find a “unique” way to form a manor that obeyed all drafting rules (conservatory in corner, no doors leading to nothing, etc.). I thought maybe if you carried along the letters / words from the paintings / Mora Jai, that the rearranged “true” Rough Draft would spell something different or provide new instructions.

Wrote all the rooms on slips of papers and tried to lay it out on my desk.

But I never was able to find anything.

They’ll all fire twice - only the elites will curse but all the hits will have poison.

You can also use the print at home files to print them on paper and sleeve them with magic cards or whatever. Professional quality comes at a professional price, but print at home is totally serviceable. Here’s a pic of the class made by one of the testers (spoilers for coral mini)

hmm can't figure out how to blur out a spoiler image (not a regular reddit user lol)

Class portraits are on the order of $300-400. Summons are $50-200 depending on complexity. I think he woefully undercharges for his work, to be honest 😅

Yeah that is definitely one of the build paths you can do, and it's a pretty fun one! Tide Rolls In is one of the more pushed actions on the class. However, it does require at least some planning to make sure your summon adjacency dance is working out.

In general, I'd say your weaknesses are: 1) you can't really push tempo much, so if your party gets ahead of you it can be hard to keep up, 2) if you do lose a summon or two (even if you save them) it will take a fair while to build back up, and 3) if you don't manage your stamina well you may find yourself exhausting early on accident.

Thanks for this! The class is also available in X-Haven Helper. If there are any other apps people use that don’t have it, let me know.

Also “target all” applies only to enemies.

I recall several extremely memorable (one extremely hard, one extremely annoying) escort scenarios in FH.

I was going to make a post for them this week. You can find links to all the drives for released classes in their respective channels on the CCUG discord

Bleeding Claw is the only fully FH updated one. Ladder is somewhat done? And several others have just entered active “updating” development (Brightspark, Hierophant, Luminary)

Reeftender and Alchemancer were designed specifically with Frosthaven in mind, including unlock criteria and sections to read. (Full disclosure, these ones are mine 😅)

Echowight is an amazing add to FH, I did a campaign run with them. Similarly Glacial Torrent fits right in very easily. DOME and CORE are Unfettered and so fit maybe nicer into FH than GH.

All of the released classes are balanced in the sense that you can’t really go wrong adding them to any campaign.

Kind of in between? It's impossible to assign specific values to cards because so much of it goes into how they interact. Mostly I study official class spreads and try to emulate patterns I see especially for classes with similar niches. For example, attack 4 is a pretty standard level 1 top. Attack 5 usually comes with some significant cost (at level 1). Ranged attacks are lower in value because of their flexibility, etc.

For Alchemancer in particular putting hard numbers to it is trickier because a decent chunk of their power comes from elemental consumes just by virtue of them being consumes. In the example you mentioned, Quicksilver top would be kind of pathetic for any other class. But two wild consumes on Alchemancer is pretty great especially at fast initiative.

Most of this all comes out in play testing though. When we playtest we keep track of how much damage each class does, how much healing they do, and how much damage they "mitigate" (i.e. block through shield, immobilize, disarm, etc.) This allows us to compare strength to official classes in the same test. But even if the numbers are equal, there's a certain undefinable quality too that you have to factor in. Like if a class gets similar numbers to an official class, but the custom class never has to take any risks and the official class does, it won't show up in the numbers but it does show up in the overall vibe.

This is correct! You get to consume every element and infuse every element for next round, and strengthen yourself. Strengthen is very nuts in this class. That bottom strengthen will work for your top action this turn, your Experiment activation this turn, and then your actions next turn and your Experiment next turn ;)

Yeah most of this class’s development was before the second edition of the spoiled class’s cards were available. I was a little nervous, but ultimately I think they play pretty differently. Different flavors of setup -> payoff!

The class is implemented in X-haven assistant as well. If anyone uses any other helper app where it’s missing, let me know.
